Since hearing about Nokia's
foray into the world of home automation, our curiosity has been seriously piqued. Thankfully, our girl-on-the-scene Drita has captured video of the new software / hardware combo in action on the Nokia World show floor. It looks like a fully decked out system is going to run you a hefty fee (given all the components required), but can you put a price on the extreme laziness it will enable? We didn't think so. Check out the thrilling video out after the break!

BlurMagic @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:56PM

BlurMagic @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:41PM
Damnit. Fuck engadgets comment system.
EEaudio08 @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:42PM
I love it when people blame engadget for making them press the "Add Comment" button prematurely.
BlurMagic @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:34PM
I love it when douchebags try to act like they know what happened when they really have no idea.
Esat Dedezade @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:35PM
I love it when I find money in my pocket that I forgot I had.
Mile @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:40PM
I love it when no other explanation is forthcoming as to how it could happen.
Daniil @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:57PM
I love it when Engadget commenters start their phrases with 'I love it...' and then keep bashing one another :)!
Samboini @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:05PM
I love it when I wake up with morning wood.
balthazar @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:16PM
she loves it when i wake up with morning wood, too.
Esat Dedezade @ Dec 2nd 2008 4:00PM
Samboini, I just spilt water on my desk, narrowly missing my laptop having read your comment, nicely done!
utahnkid @ Dec 2nd 2008 6:00PM
Wow.. the abundance of dick talk and apparent uber fans of it kinda makes me want to ask..
Does your mom know you're gay? Remember, it's a yes or no question..
And you need to chill out BlurMagic. If Engadget comments stir up ANY emotions inside that little brain you're probably lacking anything close to what we call a "life".
Bad Beaver @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:44PM
Man, at least this video is not as Blair Witch as the last one. Essentially this system allows people to nick my phone and then not only to disable the alarm but also to open the door, yes? Can it open and start my car too? Don't get me wrong, it a looks very nifty, but I sure hope this is just "easy demo mode" and there is some security in place in the real-world product.
Mile @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:01PM
Haven't seen it yet, but I'm expecting some hot girl-on-scene action
WhatTheXToTheZ @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:45PM
This makes it EVEN easier for "It Takes A Thief" lol.
RFID/GSM hack, anyone?
Patriks7 @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:46PM
Nokia is on a roll today :D
rock99rock @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:45PM
No joke! Pair this with the N97, and i have reason to finally rid myself of this other touchscreen phone.
Imran @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:46PM
More of the Bourne fighting scene cameraman.
LaserGecko @ Dec 8th 2008 4:13AM
Sweet reference.
The company I work for builds the automated winches, hardware, etc. and rigged & programmed those cool camera shots.
Imran @ Dec 8th 2008 6:53AM
The ones in Bourne or in this Nokia video? :p
bob sakamano @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:48PM
they should make this a "kindle"
Hackettman @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:00PM
Nokia is really doing some sweet innovation for the common market stuff........
welcomeee @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:31PM
To the future! Brought to you by NOKIA!
SUHWEEET!
kingu @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:47PM
Cool, but EIB/KNX would be even cooler
Justin @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:52PM
This is so fucking awesome. Anyone see the modded AT&T U-Verse control panel that can do this? It's SO sick!
macserv @ Dec 2nd 2008 6:44PM
Link? Is it a modded HomeManager panel?
macserv @ Dec 4th 2008 1:47AM
Sorry to ask again, but I'm hoping you might have more info about this.
Ilya @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:18PM
Actually you don't need to wait for 2009
Check the video we had posted early 2008: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nIRdCWHPWU
You can control almost everything from the cell phone, including blinds and shades, irrigation system, music plus see the live video from your home in addition to lights, security and climate control.
I turn the lights off in my house today using my cell phone, when I go to bed, since this is the only device that I have on the nightstand
Glad to see that Nokia is finally realizing that this is a huge market - Welcome!
pryapart @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:08AM
I know Ilya. I've been using a Lagotek system for the last few years and it's pretty cool. Just seems like nobody has heard of Lagotek (www.lagotek.com) - their loss.
