SnorePro might stop you from snoring (but probably won't)

We'll level with you: the Snore Pro sets off a few snake oil alarms -- it does, after all, claim to fix a problem that has been seemingly incurable from time immemorial. The device (which is not exactly cool looking) apparently has a two-pronged approach to help snorers kick the habit: first, it delivers an "electronic stimulation" to the wearer's skin causing a sleep disturbance (which the company compares to a nudging spouse). Secondly, it claims to record each and every snore. The recorded data theoretically provides the user with feedback about their progress and gives them clues as to why and when they snore. We don't know when it's going to be available or how much it will cost, but we hope it's less expensive than the weight loss pills and the real estate pyramid scheme software we just ordered.

These do actually work, my dad has one and it works great. He's had one that hasn't worked though so it might be a case of check for reviews before buying.
they don't work and this is the dumbest idea I've seen in this field in a while. Simply depriving someone of sleep does not cure snoring. In fact it will increase the snoring effect over time.
the biggest causes are poor sleeping habits (staying up too late)
weight gain
overbites that cause airway constriction when relaxed
drinking also increases the effect
so go to bed at your bedtime, lay off the booze, loose some weight and buy one of those moldable mouth guards. save your money from these idiots
Thanks man, I was just merely reporting what he has experienced, I just went and told him this and he said he's actually had three that don't work in total.
It seems he also knew it keeps you awake but still used it! Hehehe.
I have a mild snoring problem that irks my girlfriend. Very skeptical, I decided to buy one of them from a local chemist in the UK to try it out. Now my experience might be anecdotal, but I've found that it works pretty well.
Just to set the facts straight, these devices are not designed to wake you up - if you do wake up you have the shock intensity set too high - just turn it down; my device has at least eight levels. The objective is actually to provide a mild discomfort, without waking you, so that you naturally turn over in your sleep. The premise being that your sleeping position causes snoring (for me, it's lying on my back). If you are a person who snores in every sleeping position, don't waste your time with one of these. Just go for the surgical operation.
Also, this device does not cure snoring completely. Its built-in microphone has to detect several snores of a certain volume before it activates. So, the person sleeping next you is a light sleeper they still might feel the effects of your snoring.
My snoring became troublesome until I got one of these items. It worked well even when I was drunk and going to bed late. Though I did have to buy a larger band for it since I'm so fat.
Nice, so now both my wife AND myself won't get a good night sleep.
To expand on your comment...
How does it know I'm snoring? microphone? If so imagine both wife and you have them on. Every time YOU snore your wife gets shocked and vice versa. Sounds like a recipe for a successful marriage, no?
I used snore like a banshee. My father told me to go get checked for sleep apnea because that's what he has, and sure enough after having a jillion wires, straps and monitors atattched to me, I was diagnosed with it. They gave me a CPAP machine but I can't sleep with that piece of shit strapped to my face either so I tried something like this blue thing... all it did was wake me up every 5 minutes. I don't know about this particular one, but the one I tried sure sucked a fatty. But now I dont' have to worry about it anymore because I lost 30lbs and got my tonsils out. Thank you Dr. Greene, I don't have to drag ass out of bed anymore.
Perhaps you should see another doctor and/or try a different "mask" with your CPAP. I use a mask that they call "nasal pillows" with my CPAP and I now get to sleep in like 15 minutes. Used to take me over an hour to get to sleep before I used the CPAP and I would wake up as tired as I was when I went to bed. Sleep apnea SUCKS!!!
Oops, didn't read the last few lines... Ignore me. =)
Wait. They treat snoring by CAUSING a sleep disturbance? LOLBBQ?
With this thing you're trading one problem for another. If you stop snoring but have regularly disturbed sleep, you're still gonna be miserable during the day. I would know.
I use a device nightly that has cured my snoring. It's called a CPAP and also treats the sleep apnea that the snoring was a symptom of. I don't snore and I don't have sleep disturbances anymore either.
I totally agree. My snoring is the cause of (or result of, one or the other) of sleep apnea. I already get really shitty sleep. I don't need to get even worse sleep. I suppose one day I will have to get a CPAP, but this is the worst possible idea for people like me.
Curtis, you should get a CPAP, it's amazing. I've only had mine for about 3 weeks and it's made a HUGE difference in my sleep. I don't feel like just staying in bed every morning like I used to and I don't always fall asleep while watching movies with my wife / friends / family, I can actually stay awake.
useless if u ask me..
...says the useless commentor.
I'm still waiting for my unicorn to arrive in the mail
Me too. I'm going to eat mine... you?
I got My Little Pony a while ago...

Heres a few thousand.
Remind me again what that has to do with snoring?
Easy Goatee Man:
lame jokes = sleep = snoring
I have one of these it's called my wife. The device works by saying, "Chris, you're snoring" I say "ok" and it turns off momentarily until I fall back asleep upon which the device says again, "you're still snoring."
I've got a newer model. It's called "girlfriend".
"SnorePro" is the most amusingly horrible product name ever. I mean, it's actually not a horrible name, given what it does, but it SOUNDS horrible. It sounds like the product is just so completely and utterly boring that it made even the marketing department snore. Well done SnorePro, well done.

well, i guess it's better than SnorLax
gotta catch 'em all!
This is great! NOT. I would not buy this unit as it will cause harm to you. As a sleep apnea sufferer, we are educated on the dangers off sleep apnea in which cause the brain "shocks" the heart to speed up so we wake up enough to start breathing again which reduces you heart's life. This device will do the same thing by "electronically stimulating" you awake.
Stay away. There is a reason you snore, either you have sleep apnea or you have obstructions in your soft palette which could be surgically fixed.
The only benefit I see is the data recording aspect, if it could do that without the stimulation it would be good as this is part of a sleep study.
Fellow Americans this is going to save our marriage!
Yeah, but maybe we can wire a bunch of those in series to people blindly applefanboiiing or telling us that we should get off of our collective arses and buy a real guitar or drum set in lieu of my den's plastic collection... I think maybe 3 or 4 thousand in series outta do.. okay 5 or 6 thousand in series to remove all evidence at the same time. :D
If it was not for the fact that this device is dangerous, it would be hysterical. While all snoring is not obstructive sleep apnea, for those who do have it and rely on this modern day equivalent of snake oil, this device is more than useless. While some are lucky enough to ger rid of their sleep apnea by weight loss and/or surgery, this helps less than 50% of the time. So, though i hated the idea of a CPAP, i did get used to it, and now my spouse and myself are well rested in the morning. The SnorePro is dangerous if one delays getting treatment and buys this POS instead.
I don't think it's gonna be fine for long-term use with that 'sleep disturbance' feature.
I'll just run a line from my electric fence into my bedroom window. A few feet of wire is probably cheaper than buying this thing. Hey, these are hard economic times guys.
To be Perfectly Honest this will disrupt your sleep and make it even worse. Working in the Field CPAP or BiPAP works the best! If you can't tolerate CPAP then BiPAP will help. But having a Sleep Study done is a very useful study as Sleep Apnea and different sleep disorders can/will lead to Cardiac Problems later on in life. And Most Children diagnosed with ADD and stuff are Just Kids who are Misdiagnosed when in reality they have sleep disorders. So all in even if you are able to sleep at night there might be quantity but not much quality sleep so definitely worth it.
Snore Pro - snore like a Pro, record and boast to friends!
Just sleep on your side. That helps the airflow issue, which is usually the cause of the snoring. If you have trouble getting yourself to sleep on your side, try attaching a tennis ball to the back of your collar. If you sleep naked, well, you're screwed.
"The device (which is not exactly cool looking) apparently has a two-pronged approach to help snorers kick the habit: first, it delivers an "electronic stimulation" to the wearer's skin causing a sleep disturbance (which the company compares to a nudging spouse)."
So lemme get this straight. This causes the same type of effect that sleep apnea causes (sleep disturbance via a shock or buzzing instead of a respiratory disturbance as in the case of Apnea). That type of disturbance is WHY sleep apnea is so dangerous. If your sleep is interrupted every time you snore you will never get to that deep, restorative sleep you need in order to function during the day. This means that you can actually INCREASE your chances of things falling asleep at the wheel. And you certainly won't be able to focus at work or in any other parts of your daily living.
People -- if you snore - GO SEE A SLEEP MEDICINE SPECIALIST!!! Surgery doesn't work for *everyone* but it works for many people. CPAP is also an option. CPAP is what I use and it has worked *wonders* for me. But whatever you do, do NOT buy garbage like this.. you WILL put your day-to-day life in danger and take YEARS off of your life by not getting the rest you need.
As for the idiots who manufactured this - I'm sure we'll see lawsuits in the future.
Looking at the picture before I read it, I thought: "Sweet! A device that tazes you in your sleep!"
I was actually surprised when I found I was right.
This will stop snoring - works for me.
Went to the dentist and he made me a plastic mouth guard to fit my upper set of teeth.
Wear it every night and have stopped snoring completely.
Haven't tried one of those moldable sports mouth guards one can get at the sports store, but it should probably work as well.
