Just in case you thought 3D was only for
Thursday night NFL games and
NBA playoff matchups, Fox Sports is broadcasting the first college football game in the format January 8. CEO David Hill dropped the info during the 3D Entertainment Summit, acknowledging plans to bring the 3D feed to CES (finally, we won't have to miss the big game this year -- like we'd ever watch an SD feed stretched on cheap hotel plasmas) and select movie theaters, but balked at pushing technology forward. Citing costs absorbed by broadcasters in switching to high definition, he's looking towards consumer electronics manufacturers to turn over HDTV profits and start another round of upgrades for early adopters. While they argue over who picks up the check we don't expect more than a few demos here or there, but with
Panasonic,
LG and others already taking the baton it's just a matter of time, maybe when
ESPN takes over things full time in 2011?
3d? I bet this will look amazing in the CNN newsroom.
Like I want to watch a 3D version of a bunch of Sooners kids with rickets and fleas balling about another national humiliation. Pass. I guess I'll be stuck watching the Fiesta Bowl in lowly 2D while Texas mops up some unworthy opponent.
Oh, was I supposed to be commenting on the technology? It's too early (and not enough coffee) to *not* hit "rant mode". Sorry.
sooners suck.
Boo hoo Texas fans.
Hahahaha
Cry me a river poor TexAss fan.
Longhorns suck A$$
I can now watch the BCS money-hording scam pick a phony champion in 3D? Wow!
while this is sorta cool, i really don't see the appeal of this latest trend of "3D on your TV". it is the kind that requires you to wear those red and blue filtered glasses right? IMO, not for me. im looking forward to the day when glasses-less 3D is a reality that'll be cool! i know for a while there were those TV's that played with your left and right eye, but those panels sort of guessed what was foreground and what was background right?
on the bright side, we wont have to watch ohio state blow it again this year.
No, we'll just have to watch chokelahoma blow it instead. Way to go, backdoor bob...
not red and blue.
they can use polarized lenses which allow 3D without the distracting red/blue tint.
you don't even need special glasses. you should be able to use one lens of a pair of polarized sunglasses rotated 90 degrees (hold the lens over one eye with the lens rotated 90 degrees vertical as opposed to horizontal)
Who cares? BCS is a sham. Other teams have a perfect record, and have won in the bowls within the past few years, and they STILL can't compete this year. Bowl CHAMPIONSHIP series is just a big, friggen joke.
like the monster dynasty Boise State? truly deserving of a national championship spot...
Backdoor Bob my a**.....
It was a THREE way tie.....head to head means nothing in a three way tie....
It is a Big 12 rule....not an OU rules.
Poor ole Mack has made a fool of himself with his constant whining....
"Hill said the network was enthused about 3-D -- but he warned that electronics manufacturers needed to show up with a lot of coin before broadcasters invested in 3-D broadcasting." "I hope the TV industry doesn't get conned again the way we did with HD," Hill said. "And we got conned. It cost us a fortune to go to HD, but do we get a penny more from the advertisers? Do we get an extra rating point? No. Everybody benefited but the broadcasters."
Spoken like a true pretentious, monopolistic prick. What is this the RIAA?
Here's a thought - restructure your business model to allow your industry to change with the times whilst maintaining profitability. That's what every other industry in the world has to do, save consumer tar pits like yours. Are we really supposed to feel bad that it costs the broadcasters "real money" to upgrade their equipment? What an asshole.

I agree with the concept of "no 3D glasses". What football clowns would be able to keep those specs on for an entire game? Maybe something will happen in about 15 years with the "no glasses/3D holographic objects" vision.
