Jeffrey Stephenson impresses with another wood grained, retro casemod
Last time we heard from Jeffrey Stephenson he had crafted an art deco-styled casemod that, spiritually at least, brought us back to the watery confines of Bioshock. He's back with another classic-looking device, dedicating this one to Ingraham Cabinet Co., creator of many a fine walnut-ensconced radio case in the WWII era. His Ingraham case mod is similarly walnut-clad (though veneered) with a hand-built basswood frame layered atop an otherwise mid-grade mini-ITX SilverStone case. The focal point is a finely polished chrome knob on the front that Harley riders might recognize from an Arlen Ness catalog, perched atop a final retro flourish: a Firewire 400 port. Inside (pictured below) things are rather more modern: a VIA VB8001 mobo, a (rarely seen in the wild) 1.6GHz Nano processor, 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 64GB SSD, and not a single vacuum tube.

That is so sexy, I would kill to have the skills to create cases like this.... or have the money to buy one
OneLove @ Dec 3rd 2008 4:48PM
He likes a big shiny knob

If it could fit one or two terabyte drives to become a media server, that would be really cool. The it wouldn't have to be hidden.
Loonie @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:40AM
Judging by the picture with the lid removed, there would be some room for extra storage.
Hey, case manufacturers, why can't you show this kind of imagination?
ChillyCat @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:10AM
"DECO" "RETRO".......Whatever *YAWN*
LostProphet @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:13AM
Why do idiots liek you bother posting when you just want to tewll everyone how much you don't care? You must care, otherwise you wouldn't hit the p***ing link would you?
On topic, that is one sexy case. I'd pay good money for a water cooled HTPC in one of his cases

Creative, stylish, and functional! Awesome Job!
Backlin @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:19AM
Agreed, an awesome job.
Jonathan @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:27AM
Pretty awesome, but couldn't he do something with the ports on the front? IMO they detract from the look. Put them on the side or behind a panel.
Although, I suppose it's better than my woodgrain retro case mod.
MemphisNET @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:31AM
Excellent case. Makes me want to get back into case-modding/creation myself.
Uninformed idgit @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:34AM
CaseMod gives me wood.
iEye @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:41AM
Or redo your entire place in that fake wood wallpaper.
Wood...
.......wood.
OneLove @ Dec 3rd 2008 4:50PM
ieye likes lots of wood
soop @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:37AM
I don't like it too much, though I appreciate the effort. The best wood mod I saw was the wooden mouse and LCD screen (and keyboard?), and the wood ipod.
I'm off to check this guy's other stuff, he has skill.
Monksy @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:42AM
I agree, this particular case mod is not exactly to my taste however the effort that has been put into it is easy to see, obviously a lot of time has gone into this.

Grandma has a great big console stereo from the early '60s that is mint. I think it's one of the ones that has the speakers fire out to the sides. I'm thinking of throwing some components in there and making it my HTPC rig. Upgrade the speakers. Make the record player work, but have a switch that switches the audio to the PC. run a single, clean cable to a 1080p lcd, maybe a 37" and watch me some blu-ray.
Davin Black @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:01PM
That'd be sweet as hell, although I wouldn't trust myself to take hammer and saw to a vintage console stereo if I had one.
Bixmen @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:51AM
Really classy, good looking case. I collect vintage radios, and would love to have my computer look that nice.
