BlackBerry Storm vs. knife blade... Fight!

Some things are best tested by others. Say, for example, the guy who first drank from a cow's mammary organ or the equally daring person who took the point from the knife above to the display of his new BlackBerry Storm. In either case, the results are tasty. See for yourself in the video after the break.

Yes, Benchmade ftw!
I too saw the Benchmade. Currently carrying a Griptilian on a daily basis.
Is that the StagHorn?
Very reinsuring...
Yes, I love my Stryker, such a lovely knife.
I carry something similar every day, but it's a Kershaw.
Second on Kershaw.
Leek 1660CKT.
mines almost exactly like the one pictured!!! Benchmade FTW!! I currently carry an automatic, had it since 99' so I don't remember the model name, but it's the Elishewitz made/designed one. Never had a single problem. Just keep it clean for quick spring action. Benchmade's rule.
Just FYI the reason it doesn't scratch is that it's made of tempered glass; that being said if you manage to get sand or similarly sized grains in your pocket the will scratch it fairly easy.
I carry a Kershaw Vapor is with me everyday. Would like to get a non serrated with at tanto style blade though.
my edc is a mini-presidio
Benchmade but be good but Microtech is superior to that. Not even close.
I saw the benchmade and came here to mention it's maker...so much for being first
That's a Benchmade (Auto Stryker) and that particular one is commonly issued to US special (Commando) forces.
Is anyone else disappointed that he didn't plunge the knife into the phone? I was all excited...
Yeah, that's pretty much what I was hoping for.
lol yeah I was thinking that it could have saved your life in a knife fight, you may have your knife but somewhere on my body I have a blackberry.
but any hows thats pritty cool that it can shrug of being scratched from a knife, wonder how long it can take being scratced for when in your pocket and if you can replace the screen.
Does this mean it won't blend?
iPhone blended just fine so i dont see why not.
everything blends. Except chuck norris. Welcome to 2007
Chuck Norris? Nice worn-out Internet meme that hasn't been funny since 2005 and wasn't original or funny then either. It also wasn't funny when it was Van Damme. It was funny when it was, originally, Vin Diesel but only for a minute or two. People seem to like really tired jokes, I guess.
hurrr, Chuck Norris is really tough, hurrr!!!!11!!
Because Hold McGroin is funny and hilarious too.
Originally Vin Diesel, that's a laugh. The [enter celebrity name] facts were all based on the SNL sketch about Bill Brasky, which was based on tall tales like Paul Bunyan and Davy Crockett.
Uh
Less talking, more knifing.
is this an obscure futurama quote?
that would be less talking more THE CLAMPS!
Nothing to post today I guess?..
i am very dissapointed, i could have scratched that thing. he barely seemed like he put any pressure on it at all.
This video was like "Death Proof" from Quentin Tarantino. I was pretty excited to see it, but then it started and there was just way too much talking and not enough destruction.
bad pseudo viral marketing.
you should have seen the scratches that the storm put into the knife... much more impressive
Yaaaaaay! but really don't care. so why did I post you say? I have my reasons. why did I just answer my question, because I'm a ....
Is it a safe upgrade from a Razr? Will it take a bullet for me?
It doesn't take a bullet. A bullet takes it.
LOOK OUT !!!! he's got a knife! Someone should have told that boy not to bring a knife to a gun fight. ;)
I don't thnk he was honestly scratching the screen to his best abiltites. RIM fan boy ? :]
He talks too much...
yes he drones on and on. This whole video should have taken about 2 minutes.
I came here looking for carnage... I left disappointed.
Talk about conducting a Benchmark Test. Somebody should explain it to him..
Why are people impressed with this? It's glass, of course it won't scratch. It would take a lot more to scratch it than just a knife or some keys and at that point, you'll encounter the bigger problem with glass screens when it breaks.
Because the majority of cell phone and ipod screens do scratch.
Not everyone is an iphone toting cynic.
Though I do appreciate the snap judgement, my point wasn't to boast the iPhone's obvious superiority (or something) but to point out that we've known about the scratchproof qualities of glass for, I don't know, hundreds of years now? Yet it's become this wonder material for cellphone screens, but, you know, it's glass. Big deal.
some people care because apparently some didn't believe that the storm's screen was glass, even though it was listed in the specs or whatever as being glass.
That's not a knife... THIS is a knife
*pulls out spoon*
I see you've played knifey spoony before.
is this round 2...
?
did iPhone lose?
The BlackBerry Storm. Only Chuck Norris can scratch it.
For a real scratch test what you need to do is take a handful of sand and put it in a small sealed bag with the device, then carry it around in your pocket for a week. If after that the thing doesn't have scratches on it - then it passed a scratch test. (Of course everything but the screen should protected with something like tape or some other cover)
well, I'm just glad to see this guy is getting to use his knife for other things besides cutting the tape to his japanese porn mags and opening the cans of spam his mom cooks for him. things are looking up for Internet Tough Guy.
It didnt pass the "diamond ring test" I bet...
It barely scraped through the cubic zirconia test I reckon, never mind diamond.
Should have just dropped it in a puddle of water and watch those gaps around the screen allow the circuitry to get a wash...never mind the knife.
I was hoping for a deranged upset owner to do serious damage on it.
how does it hold up to the pregnancy test?
I'm definitely reinsured now.
You mean "reassured"?
Thanks for playing!
The guy in the video says 'reinsured'. Its called satire. You sir are the one who shall be thanked for playing.
"pushing as hard as i can.."
yeah right....
Ok, is it just me or did he not put any pressure on it? When he was scratching it with objects the screen did not turn on yet when he put his finger on it to swipe the phone magically turned on. I don't know if the screen is heat sensitive but if it's not then he was definitely not putting any pressure to scratch the screen at all.
You have heard of capacitive touch screens, right?
Welcome to the 21st Century!
I would have like to have seen the knife held vertical and tightly at the very tip by the thumb and index finger and then dragged across the screen. I bet it would scratch. My 1 week old BB Storm already has scratches on the screen but I assumed that was because a plastic screen protector was placed on it at the factory, which would have only made sense. The small bubbles in the screen would seem to indicate so. The edge of the protector is verrry close to the edge of the screen. Am I correct on that?
It's a glass screen, what a innovative idea! :-) I don't think he put much pressure on the knife. I mean, I have the iPhone, its very tough to scratch, but not impossible. Changing the screen to glass from plastic before launch was a very smart move. I can see most touch screen phones going to glass.
Funny.... its cold in NY though hehe
Good thing he didn't use a serrated Spyderco...it would have torn that screen up (nothing against Benchmade, they make fine knives too. I just don't know much about the steels they use). Untempered steel won't scratch glass, but some of the properly heat treated blades can. After doing a little research, I found that tempered glass usually runs anywhere from 5.5-7 Mohs (hardness scale), while hardened steels used in knife blades usually run from 5.5-8 Mohs. I'm guessing that the glass in this is higher quality, and therefore running closer to 7 Mohs. The Spyderco knives tend to run between 7.5 and 8 Mohs, so don't try this test with them unless you want to kill your screen.
Either way, I'm pretty impressed with how well the screen stood up. Certainly beats my 5 year old Motorola.
I believe those are Moes, d'oh!
Yes, but will it stand up to (drumroll, pleaseee.....) a Cutco knife! VBG!
Benchmades are nice! I also like cold Steel knives.
if he isn't careful he's going to scratch his phone!
That guy must really be attention-starved.
Hey, Mike!
Since you scratched one, I was wondering if you have a spare Storm because I want one and I can't afford it.
I really want to upgrade my sgh-e376.
The older Blackberries screens scratch very easy, but they usually go away with time. I have the 8830 and the boyfriend has the Storm. We were wondering after watching the video why the screen was not activated if he pushed "so hard". We tried a variety of objects to see what activated it. It only seemed to respond to our fingers. Coins and plastic items did not work. So that is pretty cool that if it is in your pocket or purse or whatever, it wouldn't activate touching anything but your fingers.
Touch screen technology is pretty cool, especially on a phone.
The funny image of someone drinking from a cow the first time is probably far less interesting when you think, long before the thought to do that occurred, people probably butchered a cow into tiny pieces and tried ALL of the parts. Drinking its milk just happened to be a lot better for you than drinking its blood and eating its bladder.
Now how's the imagery hey?
*ewww*
