Netflix proclaims Roku, Xbox Instant Watch streaming problems resolved
And there was much rejoicing, as Roku and Xbox 360 owners that noticed a distinct lack of clarity in their Instant Watch streams should be seeing much better today. Netflix didn't say which lever was pushed / pulled to achieve the desired result, but thanks to work with "content distribution partners and key carriers" the dreaded one-dot should be long gone. The final report is yours, with boxee users the most recent to logon, anyone still enduring vintage VHS-quality video and lackluster HD, or enyoing the high quality promised land thanks to a newly unclogged series of tubes?

How long have these been problems going on? when NXE first came out, I got a 2 week trial and I was disguisted with the sub VHS level video. so I didnt get a netflix account.
Maybe it's time to sign up under my wife's name and try again.
The better question is why waste money on Netflix when you can stream the movies to your 360 for free. I can go download a movie from my internet connection in less than 20 minutes and throw it on my PC and stream it using Tversity...
It's a recession people need to think outside the box...
@ platinum skeet
seeing as it is a rescission you should sell some of you skeet to make money :)
@ platinum skeet
After the MPAA tears you a new one, it would have been cheaper to just subscribe to NetFlix.
Who says I'm downloading I'm never home to watch movies anyways...
@KAIKAI
I'll sell you an ounce today for the low low price of $25...
Why bother using TVersity, Platinum Skut? Windows Media Player does it just as well and doesn't need to be running while you stream. Also, less crap you have to install.
Tversity uses less resources. I have Media Center and WMP10 everytime after a few updates or system changes it always blocks the files eventually then I have to redo all the settings. Tversity I never have that proble.
I use to send the music files over from Media Center but after the XMB Tversity works faster sending the files in that area so I use it for everything...
Hmmm I canceled Netflix after the XBOX update and got this netflix, the resolution was terrible...worst then VHS
so i am confused is it fixed now??
I'm happy about this, I'm just trying to figure out why I don't have "full bars" when I'm freaking hardwired into my dorms High Speed Internet, which I usually get about 1 GB/s, oh well...not enough new movies on it yet anyway. I'll use it more when new releases are both instant and through DVD
sure you don't mean 1mbit/s or 10mbit/s? cuz ur referring to 1000mbit/s
meaning, you'd have the fastest internet available to the public in the united states and just every where else in the world besides maybe hong kong :) another words, you probably have 10mbit/s internet. not even 100 is believable no offense.
although, being able to download a 4000 megabyte DVD movie in about 32 seconds would just be.....theres no words to describe
Really a GBps? I'll maybe give you a Gbps connection and even than...
oh i didnt even think about GB/s....was only thinking Gb/s
and even then - no consumer in america to my recent knowledge has that high. no school, etc.
GB/s....no one in the world has, and hard to even imagine the government having it - even though im sure they do, still hard to fatham how fast that is.
that would be 8192megabits/second
the average in america....maybe 5megabits/s
First, just because the network is 1Gbps does not mean that is the speed of the Internet coming into the school network. And second, university networks usually have packet shapers that filter what content comes through to prioritize network traffic. Stuff like email and and browsing gets higher priority than stuff like gaming, streaming, and P2P apps because those most likely have nothing to do with your studies.
I mean Gb/s, stupid non-engineering classes mixing the two up don't help me out any. Oh, and BTW...my netfilx definitely takes priority to stupid e-mail...j/k...I wish I could prioritize my packets that get sent.
I get 800 kBps to 2.0 MBps with µTorrent at my school. And the bar problem has been fixed for me. :)
I agree, it's much better but still a bar or so short! And yes, not enough new releases to watch instantly, but they are slowly coming, maybe give it a month or so. But the improved quality is nice, not perfect, but much better for sure!!!
:-)
i run 1000Mbps and all i can ever get is one lousy single bar, what's up with that?
The selection couldn't be any worse. I'm not a complete glass half epthy person but other than some TV shows, what is really worth it on there at this point?
There are a lot of documentaries and indies available that are worth watching.
King of Kong!
^^^^ Agreed! Steve Wiebe FTW!
yawn
And in other news,
DARK KNIGHT OUT NEXT WEEK IN BLU
HOLD ON TO YOUR TITS, GRANDMA
Amazon already shipped me my Blu Ray special edition of it.
You mean it wasn't due out until next week?

Liar
I'm guessing you're not a Prime member, Miggity.
Or maybe you bought the regular edition.
YAY!
I personaly love the service. I'm sure more moves will be added.
I was disappointed at the bad connection. It always seemed to happen at the worst of times. When I was showing off NXE to a friend or something like that.
Anyway, I hope its better quality because when it did work it worked great.
Ah, so that's what was going on last night!
The resolution and compression had gotten progressively worse over the last week to the point where it was unwatchable. Halting, bitblocks everywhere, dropouts, rebuffering, etc. I thought maybe my Broadband connection was somehow to blame.
I hope it's fixed for me tonight.
I was really getting into the convenience of it.
Plus the number of titles available for streaming on my Queue seems to have doubled almost overnight.
Roto-Flix to the rescue!
We need netflix in the uk. Be cool if we had something from these or lovefilm when I get my 360 back after it broke today.
The VHS quality video issue appeared after they added all those Starz flicks. I assumed that it was just the Starz movies that were having the problem. I didn't bother me much though, most of the other videos were fine and I love getting instant watch movies and mail-in dvds for $10/month. Why pay for premium television?
Yeah, did the whole free trial thing and man the selection is really bad, and they dont plan on doing instant streaming of any new movies when there released. the head guy at netflix said it would be too expensive for them, thats why the only new movies you get are indies because, well there cheap LOL. not worth it yet unless you like 1990-80 movies and most arent the good ones.
Instant streaming is awesome. I've not had a problem since day one of the NXE and honestly, I love the selection. I could watch 80's TV all day and some of the movies are pretty awesome too.
Its nice to have netflix streaming as an option. I wouldnt sign up for netfix exclusivly for the streaming, but having the option to instantly watch some movies on my big screen tv at home is great. I have been watching the first season of 30 Rock and it looks great and is very easy to get going.
my quality looks SO much better already... some good selections on here including 30 Rock and many classic movies worth a second look!
theres alot of new movies and a MUCH wider selection because they just added 2000 movies form starz, including old country for old men, and other brand new movies like that. so there selection may not be perfect, but for 8.99 a month - just the starz movies alone is worth it
You mean "No Country For Old Men"just sayin'
Funny. never had a problem. pick my show, 20 second buffer and it's insta- HD- cinema
best feature xbox live has going for it IMO. other than that... nothing
Ahhhhh, so that's what was going on. On 11/30 I watched Dan In Real Life, and the quality kept dropping down - it looked horrible. And I'm on a 6Mbps connection, not shared with anyone else in my household.
I'll have to give it another shot and see how it goes.
Your problem wasn't the quality of your connection, it was the quality of the movie. That movie sucked.
Whats with the 'Presented in HD' banner?
I read something a couple days ago about streaming HD content not being available, but will be soon?
Just got off the phone with a Netflix rep
'It's still in the process of happening, we don't have HD content at this time...'
Bout to cancel it... again
Obviously you haven't heard of this mystical thing called the Xbox 360... or the Roku player... or the Samsung and LG Blu-ray players...
They're all going to be streaming HD by the end of the year. Xbox 360 already has it.
I've 100% no problems at all streaming HD content. I'm loving every moment of NetFlix and can't wait for even more content to pour into the service.
I wasn't having problems with the video quality. What I'm disappointed about is that it's basically impossible to figure out which movies are HD and available for xbox360 streaming. They touted the 300 "exclusive-to-xbox" HD movies as a major selling point but made those 300 titles unidentifiable. I'm willing to overlook the fact that they don't allow you to surf for movies on your xbox. But this is a blunder. Now I have to go to my computer, find a movie I want to watch, add it to my instant queue, go to the xbox and wait until the stream starts before I even know whether it's in HD... I still have been unable to even test how good the quality is because I can't find the HD movies on the site!!!
Netflix... if you're reading this... tisk tisk..
Peter,
Watch Instantly -> Genres -> HD
http://www.netflix.com/WiHD?lnkctr=hdgenre
Uh, just filter results for HD.
Wtf, since when did the word "genre" refer to resolution? I think Webster might take issue with that. But I'm glad I posted! Can't wait to get home and try it out.
I agree, they ned to allow you to select from the Xbox, kind of a pain going to pc, queueing it up, then back to xBox...
Mine has always worked really well to the Xbox 360. Even over my powerline network in the house.
