Carbon fiber door boasts biometric scanner, $15,000 sticker
Being the home cinema fanatics that we are, we'd much rather spend around two large to snag one of QuietHome's THX-certified doors, but our love for all things biometric still manages to make this one tug on our delicate heartstrings. Masterfully crafted by the carbon fiber gurus at Brazil's own Chaote Carbon, this 99-pound, 7.5- x 4.9-foot door was carefully wrapped in carbon fiber and equipped with a biometric scanner to keep unwelcome guests waiting in the rain. We can't say we totally see the value proposition considering the $15,000 price tag, but we get the idea the buyer here probably has more money than he can figure out how to spend.

If people spend $15,000 on a flat-screen TV, they'd buy the door.
I'd buy it, I think it's the coolest door I've ever seen!

security is a big concern in countries without effective law enforcement. i'm sure this thing pays for itself, compared to hiring an armed guard. next time you complain about paying your taxes, remember that.
kojo87 @ Dec 7th 2008 2:27AM
$15K sounds kinda ridiculous. although one of the doors at the restaurant i work at cost $4K. and that is just a stupid normal door. not even one of those swingy two way doors. just a door. the swingy one costs more according to the owner/my boss. so $15K is actually not too outrageous.
either that or my boss got absolutely boned at the door store.
OneLove @ Dec 7th 2008 6:32PM
maybe the door sales girl put out?
KarlW @ Dec 6th 2008 7:42PM
Just smash through the glass next to it.
And steal the door while you're there.

What's the point of having a biometric scanner equipped carbon fiber door if you attach it to a glass wall? Hmm, how could I circumvent these impossibly secure conditions?
dhughes @ Dec 6th 2008 7:51PM
Maybe it's sheets of quartz.
Will H. @ Dec 6th 2008 8:04PM
I don't think there's anything sensible about a $15,000 carbon fiber door, so it makes perfect sense to put it in a glass wall.

and after dinner, you will go to your solid gold bathroom, and use your sapphire and ruby-encrusted platinum toilet and then proceed to take a bath in your solid emerald bathtub .
KarlW @ Dec 6th 2008 9:05PM
You should have a door made of antimatter. I for one wouldn't go near it. Keep the particles in place with a Penning trap.
At 62.5 trillion dollars per milligram, you may need to wait until the financial markets clear up before considering a purchase. You may also want to get a door in the mean time, considering it would take 2 million years to produce.
Artie Lange @ Dec 6th 2008 9:22PM

Why is it coated in carbon fibre? CF is strong but it's not hard, someone could tear it all off with an axe or something.
No, what you want is a giant chrome door....with diamonds in. Now thats class.
JMA @ Dec 6th 2008 9:17PM
Good accoustic properties (I'm curious about that)? Anyway, since it's just wrapped or coated it's probably more a question of marketing than anything else. Also at 100lbs the core is probably wood and/or metal covered. Since it's an indoor door, I guess it's not so important to be, hum, axe proof. ;)
Mike C @ Dec 7th 2008 11:46AM
A door of that width would need to be incredibly light to be framed into a glass wall. Otherwise it would rip out at the top due to the torque. I would imagine they ran the costs for a steel door and said f it once they got the required bracing back from the engineer.

Sammi @ Dec 6th 2008 9:29PM
Ok to put things into perspective...3 things, first of all y the hell would u need a bloody THX certified door in ur room when the room is made of glass...second y would u need a biometric wateva if its an inside door, i mean a safe would be a good alternative to keeping highly classified docs, unless u live in a prison with high tag inmates for family.....and finally carbon fiber means light yet strong but it doesnt mean bullet proof!!
oh then again ppl with the current crisis have no idea in wat to to invest their money in...mehh...
Abuzar Baloach @ Dec 6th 2008 9:39PM
This isn't the THX certified one.
