Acer-branded smartphone (purportedly) still on for 2009
For the third time this year, we're hearing straight from totally unofficial, somewhat sketchy Acer sources that the firm is still planning on producing its own smartphone in 2009. The latest report has company chairman JT Wang stating that the eventual launch may not happen until Q2 2009 (red flag), and he blamed the possible delay on the ongoing negotiations with carriers across the globe. If you'll recall, Acer's been talking up its own phone ever since it took E-Ten Information Systems in under its wings, but many months later, we still have no concrete evidence that anything is going on (mobile wise, at least) behind the firm's doors. We suppose time will tell, but we have serious doubts the hardcore Acer faithful will be holding their breath.[Via Slashgear]

Well LOLed. Every Acer product I have owned turned out to be utter crap.
First 8x CD Rom 10 years ago stopped reading discs.
Then 16x CD-RW failed half the burns and then stopped ejecting.
Then LCD monitor caught fire.

are there really "acer faithful?" and if there are... why? acer makes such crap.
1234321 @ Dec 7th 2008 2:50AM
yeah I was going to say, the only people who buy acer are those who can't afford to find a company to be faithful to
KarlW @ Dec 7th 2008 1:57AM
The only reason to launch a branded phone is if your brand is worth something.
Acer for me doesn't mean what those executives want it to mean.
Jake Lyon @ Dec 7th 2008 1:58AM
OH wow, I am not sure that phone I bought is ACER or something,
Oh good NOW I KNOW, because the giant logo is right on the front of the phone.
digitallysick @ Dec 7th 2008 2:10AM

Wrong article. Nub.

As from the picture above, it is a clone of Etens DX-900, the quadriband dual-SIM VGA phone that was so much heard of, talked about but hardly seen out.
Dave Chappelle @ Dec 7th 2008 5:22AM
From the company that cannot produce one reasonably well working laptop comes the 'PhoneTypeAcer 3G'
This is great, actually going to deplete competition as it will only lower the standards of reliability for all the other mobile phone companies.
Aaron @ Dec 7th 2008 6:24AM
That looks like an HTC-based device. I wonder if the company has something to do with this?
Johann @ Dec 7th 2008 11:05AM
You beat me to it.
Abuzar Baloach @ Dec 7th 2008 11:40AM
Probably E-TEN.
Oday Nasser @ Dec 7th 2008 6:42PM
No phone will ever be better than the iphone, whatever other companies do!
Shugg @ Dec 7th 2008 9:55PM
Totally agree with oday Nasser . 20 plus "iPhone-killers" have launched n failed miserably . iPhone was introduced to the world in jan of 07 n here we are dec of 08 still looking for the iPhone killer.nothing out there can even come remotely close. The scary thing is it's apples first phone
Aaron @ Dec 8th 2008 3:28AM
In sales, maybe, but in actual useable features and hardware expandability, there are plenty of phones out there that do things better than the iPhone. Really, the best thing(s) the iPhone has going for it is its capacitive screen, and Safari browser. You can't even highlight, copy, or paste text on the iPhone.
Oday Nasser @ Dec 8th 2008 12:19PM
@aaron
with iPhone apps, the isn't any real competitor with Apple's iPhone, plus the iPhone is good in both software and hardware
Tor Olav @ Jan 5th 2009 9:00PM
Wow, the acer is cool.
