Blurry pics of T-Mobile branded Samsung "Memoir" cameraphone emerge

We love nothing better than a good blurry photo around here to add a little dose of vague confusion to the rumor mill. These two artistically hazy snaps are purported to be of a US-bound T-Mobile Samsung Behold-style phone with an 8-megapixel camera. Tmo News is also reporting that it's going to run on Touchwiz, the same UI as the Behold, and that it's called the Memoir. We don't have any other details for now, but we'll let you know as soon as we see a fuzzy scan of a semi-redacted press release.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the raising the megapixel count on a cameraphone just seems like a huge waste of time to me. Why not focus on getting decent quality pictures out of them instead? An 8 megapixel blurry photo is going to be equally as useless as a 2 megapixel blurry photo. More megapixels does not equate to better pictures, just bigger pictures. Why would you want a huge picture that looks like ass?
Game_playa @ Dec 8th 2008 6:42PM
Who doesn't like ass?
KRIS_C_123 @ Dec 8th 2008 8:00PM
ass is only good if its a good ass. i dont like man ass or ugly fat woman ass. nice ass only

Looks more like a next version. Nice catch though.
BlurMagic @ Dec 8th 2008 7:26PM
Indeed. They reported on this phone early today over at Tmonews.com and said the same thing. The specs are very similar, and it is said to be running the same hardware as the Behold that Tmo is carrying right now.
KRIS_C_123 @ Dec 8th 2008 8:03PM
i think it looks quite similar to and LG viewty, but with afew more silver bits
chefgon_ign @ Dec 8th 2008 8:52PM
It's hard to tell since Samsung has put out about a dozen identical looking ho-hum touchscreen phones in the last few months.
JAG @ Dec 8th 2008 6:47PM
Why even bother? The Behold already has very similar specs but the software is so terrible that it's pointless. More megapixels is not gonna fix that. Throw wifi, 3g, and a decent OS on this thing and then maybe it'll be worth it.
Alex @ Dec 8th 2008 6:58PM
Well, the Behold already does have 3G, but I agree on the Wi-Fi part.
GaryZ @ Dec 8th 2008 6:49PM
will it come with a geisha?
Nando @ Dec 8th 2008 7:28PM
Just another movie about a poor, beautiful girl turned into a hooker...but this time...she's...Asian.
StalematE @ Dec 8th 2008 6:51PM
My pictures of big asses better not be blurry...

I'm having some problems when I go to Engadget, guys. I typed in "engadget.com" and for some reason the page started with posts from December 3rd. (The URL still said www.engadget.com)
And the other day, I clicked "Older Posts," and it took me like, 4 or 5 pages back despite saying "engadget.com/page/2"
In both cases, a refresh fixed it, but I still thought I would let you know.
I'm using FF 3.0.1

While on occasion the writers will comment on their articles, I'm not sure that's the best way to get an error like that across.

Cool, thanks Jon!
Kieran @ Dec 8th 2008 7:31PM
That thing looks a lot like a Viewty, surprised I'm the only one to notice it tbh.
Chris @ Dec 8th 2008 7:37PM
Thank you! I was just about to post the same.
KRIS_C_123 @ Dec 8th 2008 8:08PM
i said that in a comment above lol, i think its the camera/flash etc. placement. also the call buttons look quite similar too.
dvsbstrd @ Dec 8th 2008 8:03PM
This would be cool if TouchWiz didn't suck a fat one.
Most unusable phone OS I've ever attempted to use.
username @ Dec 8th 2008 8:07PM
i hope these pictures werent taken with another one of these phones
Mobius_1 @ Dec 8th 2008 8:16PM
iEye took them. With his iPhone. :P
rudy @ Dec 8th 2008 10:26PM
Why doesn't samsung just throw on Android, they are a member of the OHA.
It'll just mean more sales for the phone.
Orison @ Dec 8th 2008 11:49PM
I usually lurk, but just had to post this. This phone is rumored to be the Samsung Pixxon. http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/09/29/samsung-pixon-m8800-digital-camera-also-features-a-phone/
KRIS_C_123 @ Dec 9th 2008 12:21AM
looks totally different from the pixon and the pixon is already out (in uk)
Some Guy @ Dec 9th 2008 2:10AM
I actually had a chance to play with this phone when the Samsung rep was hanging around a T-Mobile store. The rep said that it was looking like early 1st quarter release. It did run Touchwiz and that 8 megapixel shooter was really good. It was a little bit thicker than the Behold, but I actually liked the build quality more. Didn't get to check out if they decided to throw in Wifi or GPS but definitely had 3G. I couldn't get much more info than that from the rep but I must say that I definitely liked the phone a lot. Hope T-Mobile puts it out soon.
Dagreenman18 @ Dec 15th 2008 11:10AM
looks nice, but id rather see more Android phones for T-mo than another touchwiz phone.
SAMMM @ Jan 25th 2009 6:19AM
This looks almost EXACTLY like the LG Viewty! Samsung , come up with your own ideas
Dino @ Feb 7th 2009 7:25AM
It looks like the LG Viewty and has the spec of the LG Renoir. Renoir, Memoir, hmmmm....
alltouchdiamondcom @ Mar 4th 2009 8:04PM
Just ordered my Memoir today! Waiting patiently for it to arrive! Was thinking of getting the behold, but was told the memoir was similar with a better camera. Hope the camera works well. come join me at http://www.Samsung-Memoir.com see ya.
