Lackluster line-up of new iriver DAPs leaked

It looks like we might have two new iriver DAPs to get semi-not-really excited about in the very near future, if the leaked photos and specs are to be believed. We know very little about the uber-basic T5 (picture above) beyond the fact that it supports MP3, WMA, and OGG formats and has a built-in USB jack. It's quite small, weighing just 25.9 grams, and will come in 2GB and 4GB sizes. The T6 is a little bigger, but also an apparently quite basic 4GB player with an added FM tuner. The rumor mill also reports that the T5 will run €50 (about $65) while the T6 will be €60 (about $77), but nothing's official and we don't know when they'll hit us with these bad boys.

thats... Blah.
Yes. Yes it is.
I was thinking "meh" but that works, too.
It's about 50x better than an ipod shuffle. I'd buy this if I needed a small dap
I agree
Shuffles haven't changed in three years. :/ Comparing them to this newly leaked device is hardly fair :P
iriver, it is a good attempt to out do the shuffle, but I would still by apple product even if this other mp3 player is better. I just feel safe with all apple products.

charles = consumer electronix fail
iRiver... cute name, never seen an mp3 player shaped like this before.
Seriously there must be at least 100 MP3 usb stick player for under $20 out there today... and they decide to charge $65?
$65 so that someone can anchor this ugly beast with one of those self-strangulation lanyards?
sorry, cry me an 'i'river but the iPod shuffle (and its cheap clones) are much better...
clip 'n go baby its the only way!
You make me ashamed to use Apple products.
OwlExterminator: you are exactly what is wrong with every stupid apple fanboy. Every product, no matter what target audience, purpose, price point, features, pros, cons, ANYTHING; it always goes back to some stupid comparison to an apple based product, in this case, the holy grail of shit iPod Shuffle.
Do you realize how incredibly ignorant you are? Comparing this product to the ipod shuffle? Did you make this very same complain when the ipod shuffle came out and compared it to the other flash based mp3 players that offered so much more for roughly the same price?
As Bill Cant Fart said: you make me ashamed to use apple products. Its people like you that make me distance myself from apple everything. The only thing i hold dearly to me anymore is my Mac Pro, because its at home.
Bill, that's the entire goal of the Apple-hating trolls. I'm surprised anyone still believes them.
hello helloUser, I'm sorry that my comment came off as ignorant, but i, i just cannot figure out why Bill can't fart!
if only someone could step in and educate me on why this is not possible perhaps I could change & be a better person and tolerate these shite, over priced, under featured, lackluster Zune box color theme mp3 players...
it is just that this looks like fecal material that came out of a mechanical dog's rear end, if such a thing was possible...
You sir, are a moron.
I'd have to say the funniest part of your post would be that you're implying iriver (not iRiver!) stole there "i" from apple. Just so you know, they've been making DAP's under the "iriver" name longer than apple has been making iPods.
You guys are exactly what is wrong with every stupid apple-hating fanboy.
It is because of idiots like you, that any mention of any Apple product just results in "fanboi!" responses and low rankings, whether or not the original comment was fanboyistic or not, thoughtful or not, or accurate or not.
You guys, and all the other anti-Apple trolls, make me ashamed to be an Engadget commentor.
@ MATT,
iRiver ----> (iPod pooping all over the market share 1 year later after iRiver) ----> iriver
It seems like Engadget's comment section completely revolves around Apple. I mean seriously, everyone is either 100% pro (iEye/Owlexterminator) or 100% anti (helloUser) Apple. Why is this? Why is it impossible for us to treat them like every other company?
I think Engadget needs to see a therapist...
@Owl:
Please, just stop talking now.
The iPod shuffle can't play Ogg Vorbis files. 'nuff said.
Also, iriver have been one of the best brands in to produce MP3 players/PMPs, easily beating Apple in the quality department. This new player isn't really impressing though, guess they are investing all their ressources into the high end models.
@OwlExterminator
Woa, woa, woa, I seriously cannot believe you said that these are "over priced, under featured" players. That's what the iPods have been from the start.
There's nothing necessarily wrong with the product or the pricing, it's just hard to get excited about yet another DAP. I wouldn't care about a new iPod shuffle either, even though it's bound to sell in the millions.
It's hard to care about another small player from another niche company when it has no cool new features, just like it's hard to get excited about the 500,000th iPod speaker/alarm clock that does the same thing as the other 499,999.
I would care about a new iPod Shuffle. They haven't changed the design in three years!
What's up with Iriver? I'm a die hard fan but they seem to be falling off the map lately. What Iriver needs to be focusing on is getting that HOT Iriver SPINN in a 16gb and a 32gb. They also need to be working on an Iriver CLIX 3 with a touch screen and make it in a 16gb and 32gb. I mean it was there hottest player. I'm so over there 4gb and 8gb players I mean really it's time to up the capacity.
I wish they'd partner with a phone manufacturer and make a multimedia phone that isn't hamstrung to the few formats that Apple haven't blocked in their firmware.
I agree with Ben. Iriver and Cowon have made a great name for themselves, but seem to be throwing it away of late. They seem to care very little for any market outside of Korea. Rushed products, low capacity, high prices, buggy software. I love the Spinn but give me 16gb minimum, micro sd, UK DAB, wifi sync and gapless for £150. Come on iriver sort it out!!
The deal here is Vorbis support.
I see no one else here appreciates the still rare Vorbis support...
It's that much better than MP3/WMA, such a shame that pretty much no one wants to adopt it
Can't wait to get my hands on one of these 'lackluster bad boys'. ????
That's what she said.
Just so you guys know, it's technically not correct to say something "weighs in at x grams", since grams is a unit of mass, not weight.
Grams is not only a unit of mass, but a standard of Weight, volume and length. 1g (mass) = 1g(weight on earth) = 1 cc of H2O = 1cm (one side of 1cc cube)
Thanks for the reminder, I have a blind date this week-end, so when I call her up I'll ask her how much, in her bra "weighs in at" so I know what to expect... :D

OwlExterminator, you put the warning first. if they read the warning, then they've read the whole thing. you fail.
lackluster? i think they are good as gym mp3's
That's a bit over priced these days isn't it? I haven't bought a new flash based mp3 player in a few years but my creative zen plus was only like $50 for the 4gb one (after rebates and crap).
Nah, I'll just wait for the Spinn to drop in price, to replace my E10
Well.... it's not "leaked". It's officially announced in Russia - http://www.nomobile.ru/news/2008.12.04.html#anchor20162.
And T6 too - http://www.nomobile.ru/news/2008.12.09.html#anchor20663
