LG tests world's first LTE cellphone chip: 60Mbps downloads are go
As mobile service providers ramp-up for the WiMAX vs. LTE battle, LG just announced a significant milestone: the world's first 3GPP LTE chip for cellphones and data cards. While theoretically capable of 100Mbps/50Mbps download/upload speeds, LG's 13 x 13-mm chip was able to demonstrate 60Mbps down and 20Mbps up, under what we can only assume to be controlled (read: optimum) conditions -- easily besting existing 7.6Mbps HSDPA networks. Great, too bad this isn't the year 2010 else we'd have a national LTE infrastructure (right!) and we'd all be driving plug-in hybrids (sure).
P.S. We don't know what those thin handsets are flanking the chips, but we doubt those are functional LTE devices. LG said that it used a "test terminal running Windows Mobile" to demonstrate its new chips. Could be data cards but we think we're seeing a volume rocker along the side. Check another pic after the break.

FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whats the point of an LTE cell phone when there aren't any LTE networks?
So... would you rather have the LTE chipsets for cellphones ready by 2010, or would you rather wait 5 years after the standard is released? (see WCDMA)
What would be the point of LTE networks when there were no LTE cell phones?
Oh and which was first, the chicken or the egg?
Will you stop with the first comments Big GIANT Balls? you're acting like a 3 year old - but you are the first in your age group to be an A-hole.
You are right. It is a great thing that LTE chips are already being developed. The first 4G network is a pretty exciting project. I wonder if we will see lower data and cell rates in the next few years, or if the expense of the new networks are just going to be downloaded onto the consumers?
Either way, it is going to be exciting to see the kind of technology that comes out in the next 2 to 5 years to run on these fast networks.
Big Giant Balls you are a complete twat no offense
"FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the point of your comment/existence?
What a shame: big gigant balls and total lack of any dongle among them!!!
first comment on the girls!!!!!!
ugly.
first comment on Davinci!!!!!!
stupid
Ugly?
Are you gay?
What's wrong with being gay.
Either way the girls are pretty, but enough about that.
first question: left or right?
Both. At the same time.
u can have both for 5 dolla's and they love you long time for one hour.
I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man.
That's it? If you had a million dollars, you'd do two chicks at the same time?
Damn straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I were a millionaire I could hook that up, too; 'cause chicks dig dudes with money.
Well, not all chicks.
Well, the type of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do.
@gohenry: that's the silly question. I'd tap them both.
The devices on the sides aren't handsets. They're prototype data cards.
LG's Korean press release has more information: (in Korean, obviously)

There's a typo in the post. It says WiWAX... should be WiMAX right?
No, it's a new technolody that connects cellphones over candle networks.
Left - cute.
Right - hot.
Keep the chips, I'll take the girls..
..then maybe the chips later (2010 later).
Right is cuter and hotter. Look at her eyes.
dude left one any day
I'm going to have to go with left, if not both...
It's a tough one actually... both don't quite fit in the category of "hottest Asian technology-booth-girls", but they are certainly not bad... I'd give the one on the left a 7 and the right an 8.
The great thing about these comments is that they're so witty and original that they never get old, which allows you to recycle them constantly.
I'd say something about pigs, but I don't want to insult their intelligence.
its actually a psychology experiment, one of them is a man
I am suck of all these standers 2.5G (GPRS) ,2.75G (EDGE) ,3G (UMTS),3.5G (HSDPA) ,3.75G (HSUPA) ,4G? (WiMAX), 4G? (LTE) .... etc ...... it cost a lot of money to build one stander only to find your self need to build the next stander.... and the small mobile phone , should support all these stander each with it own frequency... then people complain about the price of there handset and the short battery lift .... just pick one stander and stay with it at least 10 years....
I resisted with all my might, but you are suck.
It's "standard" FYI.
Thanks for correcting me, English is not my first language.
That's why ATT, Verizion and T-Mobile are all going LTE while Sprint won't
everyone sucks
no, everyone are suck
The standard for GadgetWaifs is seriously slipping. Even so, I don't know what the article is about because I haven't bothered to read it yet. This issue is far too important.
I have to scroll up and look at the girls after reading every comment.
They are not suck
I'd say they might suck .. but that would be sexist and wrong .. not to mention the R rating
If this becomes reality I can see lots of people canceling their overpriced slow Cable/ADSL connections and using LTE instead.
Not with that 5GB cap that some carriers enforce (and trust me, I do mean enforce... ::jaw dropped on latest aircard bill w/o pre overage notification as informed by -insert evil carrier here- ::) ;-o
Wireless won't be replacing land based infrastructure. That's 60mbit to one user, not gonna be getn that when there are a bunch of other people in the same sector, that is nature of wireless, and that is why wireless won't replace land based.
Wired connections can also be bogged down if plenty of users are online at the same time.
Both those girls are wicked hot. They look the same pretty much, you would need to mark one of their arms with a marker like Michael Scott did on that one episode of the Office. 'Member that?
I got so distracted by the hot Korean babes that it took me awhile to realize this was actually an interesting article and not just another vaporware showcase at some CES-esque show.
LTE = Liquid Tension Experiment?
