mophie's iPhone 3G Juice Pack unboxed and tested: high marks all around
Curious to know if your Benjamin will be well spent on mophie's iPhone 3G Juice Pack? TestFreaks is out to make sure you have an accurate answer to that, and judging by their report after two solid weeks of usage, the response is an emphatic "yes." Not only was the device sleek enough to not be incredibly cumbersome, but it actually performed as advertised. Reviewers were able to get their iPhone 3G from near-death to fully charged (twice!) on a single mophie charge, leading them to conclude that it "basically doubles the run time of the iPhone 3G" in a worse case scenario. Granted, even they couldn't overlook the particularly large price tag, but if you've been running bone dry with any level of frequency, we suspect the asking price won't matter nearly as much.

You mean triple the run time?
"basically" + "worse case scenario" => they rounded down to be on the safe side
You think in this day and age that the all powerfull Mac would have make there high speed phone to last longer without buying a ridiculous battery pack.
Isn't that supposed to be "worst" case scenario? A "worse case scenario" means that it's not quite as good as some other scenario, but not necessarily terrible. "Worst", however, is a superlative/extreme and actually tells you something about whatever relative measure you're contemplating. (Sorry, it's a peeve.)
worst case scenario, you're struck by lightning because the battery positively charges you slightly more than the surrounding environment and you die.
I think a single recharge is fine being a worse case scenario. Peeve solved.
This is nothing new, E-Cell have a battery pack add-on weighing in at 2200 mAh for a mere £10 ($15). It can recharge your iPhone quite a few times from dead and provides a much sturdier hold to the iPhone when playing games or watching movies. The bulkyness, I find, is a positive aspect of it, helps a lot!

You forgot to mention the part where it explodes.
Ever heard of tinyurl?
I've never heard of it, but thanks for the info, will use it from now on...
I learnt something today :)
I have heard of tinyurl however they are frowned upon on popular blogs and sites. Sure, a long link may seem annoying but it's much better to know what and where the link will take you as opposed to a masked link which could be anywhere including trojans, viruses & phishing sites. Yes, the link is long, but you know it's safe to visit an ebay site...
HHow much
Apple product users don't ask how much - or have the potential to afford to not ask how much :)
I'm not an apple product user so I want to Know the price.
The first line of the article is:
"Curious to know if your Benjamin will be well spent on...."
It's not that hard.
Ethan I don't know what that means so quit acting like a knob.
If its an apple product.. you dont ask how much the product costs but, how much do you cost to the product.

Why get your self lowranked then create another post to get lowranked again in the same article. You really are a tit.
I like how you other post as Highest Rank has been removed and you've changed your name again.
meh...
Maybe if you're going on a two week safari or something...
This is such a better idea than having a user replaceable battery isn't it ? LOL
I hate Apple for not allowing you to change the battery. But if the gadget is not too big, and it allows you to charge your phone full two times, then it is kind of a better idea yeah...
Yes of course Vianon, i can buy 2 spare batteries for my samsung and still have change from £10, of course i hate it when companies make my life easier....fuckers
i really wish ppl would stop using the term fugly... it's stupid and it makes you sound stupid.
just say fuckin ugly.
Very well then:
The thing is fucking ugly!
Could you please resort to "freaking"? Thank you.
Or maybe even tell it without the swear word, by using one of the many available English word suited for this like "hideous" or "repelling". Commenting doesn't mean you are restrain to a single word for a single purpose ^^
Yes swear words are bad emmkay ? this is not a nursery if you don't like the word fucking then don't do it or say it.
Or you know.. Apple just could do what every other phone company does and make it have a removable battery..
Apple chose NOT to do what "every phone company does". That's why the iPhone is such a success. Having a replaceable battery appears to be a big show stopper, though. And that is what we call sarcasm. Now shut up and go complain about MMS or cut and paste.
The incase power slider more than doubles the battery life and isnt that bulky. Recommended for $99
The Power Slider is much better, because it encloses the whole Phone in Rubber.
The Mophie exposes the upper part of the Device and although it is somewhat tight I still had the urge to check if it was still connected.
Unfortunately INCASE was not able to tell if they make the Power Slider also available for 1st Gen iPhone/iPod Touch & 2nd Gen iPod Touch - currently it is only available for the 3G iPhone !
For about $30 you can get a kensington (but you'll only get 1.5 charges)
It really pisses me off that the iPhone's battery is really that bad. It infuriates me that it's not replaceable.
What price, Hollywood?!?
Is the iPhone really so bad a product like this is necessary? How long does it last between charges?
Yeah it's so bad a product that it's become the #1 top selling phone in the US.
Not rly. But then again, I have a charger in my car, in my home, and at my desk at work. I've just never seen the need to have a phone that can go 5 days between charges, and I'm surely not willing to pay more for it.
Depends on firmware and phone. My first-gen iPhone used to last 3+ days, until the 2.0 firmware came out. 2.0 made it difficult to last a full day with push email turned on, 2.1 fixed that though. These days with 2.2 I could typically get ALMOST 2 days of battery, but I just charge it every night. I'm not sure how the 3G models compare.
It's a far cry from my Ericsson T39 that used to get 5-6 days on a battery pack the size of a credit card.
Nice one.... But my battery lasts all day long, so I dont need it....
Of all the problems that iJesus users overlook, a lack of a user replaceable battery seems to be the most glaring deficiency.
You know, just because something might be a deal-breaker for you doesn't mean that it's a deal-breaker for everybody.
Do us all a favor and at least recognize that you're in the slim minority, if you seriously carry around a spare battery for your phone.
Yeah yeah yeah, I recognize that lack of a user-replaceable battery makes it much more difficult to swap batteries if the original one no longer holds a charge, but that hasn't been an issue for me or for anyone I know, yet. I'll keep you posted though.
I don't carry around a spare battery and that is not what I am referring to. I am specifically referring to the battery losing its charge over time and requiring a trip to Apple in order to get the replacement (and a nice fee too). Smartphone batteries should be replaced every year if you want good battery life and on a phone like the Jesus Phone that already has poor battery life, that may be stretching it.
I have had the JuicePack for a month or so now and I am actually waiting on a replacement. This one has given me nothing but problems. It makes a buzzing noise (like your cell phone near a speaker) and is falling apart. Lets hope this is isolated.
Mine is falling apart too after about a month -- the rubberised coating has worn off in several places, revealing a shiny, gloss black plastic shell. Both of the glue'd in rubber side panels have fallen out and will not re-attach properly. Mophie unresponsive so far to support requests ! It cost a hell of a lot to get it shipped over to the UK ($50) on top of the original purchase price -- so I'm not impressed with the ruggedness of the device. That said, it does actually still work but looks a total mess - kind of spoils the iPhone effect :-(
I assume this works for the Ipod touch as well?
I guess, but because the iPhone is thicker, there might be a gap between the brick and the music.
I have one and I love it but it shorts out and sometimes will only initiate a charge if I plug it into usb power to trip the charge, even when the JP is fully charged. I've sent in two requests to have it fixed and have heard nothing from mophie... boo!
