ASUS rolls out four new VH-series 16:9 LCD monitors

It's sometimes easy to forget that ASUS actually makes a whole host of non-Eee branded products, but the company has reminded us of is roots today with four new VH-series LCD monitors, each of which boast the desirable-to-some 16:9 aspect ratio. Those include the 18.5-inch VH192 model, the 21.5-inch VH222 and VH226 models, and the 23.6-inch VH242, the first of which packs a 1366x768 resolution while the latter three all offer full 1080p. All four also boast ASUS' "Smart Contrast Ratio" technology to deliver numbers from 10,000:1 to 20,000:1, and all but the low-end VH192 include an HDMI port, along with built-in speakers and, of course, the usual VGA and DVI ports. The VH226 also distinguishes itself a bit further with a slightly better 2ms response rate and a glossy finish. No word on a price or release date for any of 'em just yet, but we'd expect to start seeing them show up any day now.

Its a beautiful screen. Do want... especially with their classy Asus logo on the front.
Call it all you want though. Its all about the price.
Already on sale at Newegg. Do a search for "Asus lcd". Ordered one already. Perhaps an update is in order?
Stop making 1080p monitors! I want my full 1920x1200 thank you.
Stop making 1080P ?
Please, we have enough resolution schemes, not to mention investment.... Since PC's were born... one has had the desire for a grand unification of CE and the PC world... we are near with 1080p... please don't kill it off just yet.
PS: I not a Bose fanboi... :)
I have 1920x1200 pixels in my 17-inch ASUS laptop. So they know how to make them, but they just don't want to :P
And 1366x768 on a 21.5 inch screen? Are they crazy, those pixels must be HUGE!
it has to be 1900x1080 for the 16:9 aspect ratio, people will buy these specifically because it's good for watching movies and other 16:9 videeos on, 1900x1200 = 16:10 = distorted video image.
It doesn't become distorted at 1920x1200 you just have a black bar at the top on bottom. But the extra pixels are useful for about everyone else you do on a computer. You are giving up 10% of your vertical resolution at 1920x1080. The monitors are cheaper to make and the general public thinks that they are getting 'the best' at 1080p. If you really really want the 16:9 aspect ration then you should be asking ASUS/Dell etc for some 2134x1200 monitors.
the image gets distorted if you stretch to fill and don't like black bars :p
but a real issue.. the xbox 360 does not output properly to 16:10, 16:9 looks much better.
Just found out the x360 now supports black bars instead of distortion.. :).
They have these at Newegg.. They are dirt cheap right now, but people are saying the color is crappy at best... I'm not sure I want one.. Hopefully this NEWER model will do the trick.

Not that great...
Take a closer look, that isn't ANY of the mentioned products
two dead giveaways:
1: different model #
2: 1680 x 1050 resolution.

Newegg sent me a newsletter, I didn't even check it. I thought it was this one.. I still don't trust it. People say the color is bad and it bleeds on the edges.. But the one on engadget is a newer model, so hopefully they fixed these problems.
"smart constrast", also known as dynamic constrast for several years
Why do we have 16:10 AND 16:9 monitors?
And 23" TFTs, when we have 22"s and 24"s..... Why?
Thats just the way things are, you need to learn to accept it and not question it.
this, however looks like the the 21.5" model

I don't see anything resembling the other ones so it looks like the rest aren't out yet.
16:10 still feels more natural (guess I'm used to it, but still)
Beside the plasma and lcd tv monitors connected to my system, there are also 2 lcd pc monitors, both are better (and nicer looking) than these; one of them is also bigger than the biggest of these.
Where is the shattering news?
Both the 21.5" are already on newegg. Note same models and specs. Here are the links:

Looks like they have been out since the beginning of the month based on reviews.
save some cash and it will be worth to get the LED Apple Cinema Display.
For $899? I think I'll pass.
Salesman: But surely you can't put a price on your viewing pleasure!
me: I wouldn't have thought so either, but here we are.
Worth it for what? Apple's Cinema monitor isn't in the same category as these.
The fact that the Apple displays use a completely different panel type than most LCD's ouit there, makes the Cinema Displays in a completely different category altogether. You can't even compare the two.
Why did I already buy a 22 LCD with less specs than this...WHY SANTA! WHY???
I'm curious about the quality. All the Asus monitors I've owned are poor at best. If you want a really cheap monitor, I guess they can get you in the door.
I have the 21.5 model, and I must say, it's the best monitor I've ever gotten. I don't know why people are crazy over the bad color, as it looks awesome on one of the presets. Blu-ray looks SICK on this screen!
no Eee love?
I just got the vh226 this week. so far so sweet.
