Nokia to launch HSPA modems in early 2009 -- take that Intel

After failing to reach terms with Intel to put Nokia's HSDPA data chip inside Santa Rosa laptops back in early 2007, Nokia is going it alone. Tapio Markki, Nokia's vice president for hardware platform components, told Reuters that Nokia will ship its first HSPA "Internet stick" (we presume that means USB and PC Card formats) in early 2009. Nokia would not provide price, only that its modems would be primarily sold through operators or bundled with services. More data is more better as they say in Espoo. No, really.
Update: It looks like the stick in question is the CS-10 announced last week at Nokia World which you can check out on the Nokia site.

Espoo not Espo
Or Esbo
I'll continue:
HSPDA not HSDPA.
Wow, the size of that Nokia logo almost knocked me out.
I agree, humans weren't meant to endure such Nokiasity.
Be good to see these things handed out for 'free' on all nokia handsets 18 month contracts - 1 or 3 GB per month allowance...
Since they are meant for laptops, they will probably not be handed out with handsets.
in the UK we've had non-Nokia versions of these for a year now.
I'm in Australia and was just thinking the same thing... How will Nokia compete in this market?
Yup, 3, O2, Vodaphone, and probably a buttload of other operators have been doing the HSDPA capable USB sticks in the UK for ages. Weird that the concept is still unheard of elsewhere!!
Huawei I guess. They've been available worldwide for quite a while now.
Where is elsewhere? We have them in Nokialand too..
Maybe they want to have a product of their own, maybe they think they can compete in the market.

This the thing they're talking about? Eh, I don't know if HSPA modems are worth the buzz.
Nokia's slowness will never cease to amaze me.
MAKE THE LOGO BIGGER!
Again couple years too late - well done Nokia.
You can use your Nokia phone as a HSDPA modem so i don't know what this is good for.
Ricky Caden took a look at this @ Nokia World .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOM2L0jhPRI (@1:40) looks like only USB stick to me .. seems to be marketed through Telecos ... 40ish Euros ...
I did think the charger was cool though .. now if it only cam with an iPhone connector :)
It will probably outperform everything in the market. What i have tested are crap compared to proper cell phone connection....
But they have good relations to Intel (though Wimax will fail), don’t worry Engadged.... ;)
NOKIA = UBER FAIL
INTEL = MAJOR WIN
Feiding intel will love Nokia....
Nokia Internet Stick CS-10

GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA 850/2100MHz
A little bit too late for nokia to make PC Card (express 34). I've looked for this two weeks ago, and had difficulty in finding one. The Sony Ericsson EC400 couldn't be found - practically non-existant, and there is no other equivalent product in the UK. I ended up buying much reduced price Nokia N95 (from its £500 price tag, I paid £300), just for HSDPA connection via bluetooth. Turns out I enjoyed the phone, more than HSDPA feature. (I made the decision, because once I tried to make a connection via my E65 which is not HSDPA after my HUAWEI modem broke)
What is too late in this Universe?
