Kodak's 7.6-inch OLED photo frame now available on Amazon
We knew it was coming, but Amazon is now listing Kodak's Flickr-compatible OLED 7.6-inch photo frame as in stock and shipping for $999.95. They say a picture is worth a thousand words -- here, that word is "dollar."

TomTom2007 @ Dec 14th 2008 9:24PM
Hey, on the bright side, you do get free shipping, that's Super free shipping.
zioncat @ Dec 14th 2008 9:49PM
First I saw the price and was confused. I knew it was a digital picture frame but I thought they meant to print 99.99 not 999.99. Come on REALLY KODAK.
Daniel @ Dec 14th 2008 9:59PM
or buy a computer and a nice monitor and have a huge picture slideshow...and get this, be able to use it as a computer, too!
PCIV @ Dec 14th 2008 10:28PM
Or just put a tablet on a frame.
Bob @ Dec 15th 2008 12:45AM
2 things I think everyone is missing...
1) Most imporantly... This is OLED guys, not LCD, did you read the post?
2) Sony is selling an 20" OLED TV right now for $2500, that's not much better, only a couple extra inches in comparison.
3) Rich people want to be the first to have something, so they'll eat this up like hotcakes.
4) Rich people have the right to spend their money on whatever the heck they want, it's their money.
john @ Dec 15th 2008 2:01AM
@ zion w/e the fuck ur name is
everherd of OLED well if you red the article you would have noticed this word ITS NEW TECHNOLOGY very sweet NEW TECHNOLOGY!
The only porblem i see is theres no HDMI port so i cant install it in my ride as a screen for my xbox 360 SHAME!
Dave Chappelle @ Dec 15th 2008 2:34AM
Well at least its a start guys. But at the same time at the size of seven inches apart from a bit less power there will not be that much difference in width of the unit in comparison to LCD.
Lazarpandar @ Dec 15th 2008 4:47AM
@bob
I have no problem with your post except "a couple inches?"
20 is nearly 3x 7.6!
and I'm sure it has nearly 9x the viewing area
way to be misleading
MBN @ Dec 15th 2008 5:47PM
What about the short life span of OLED products? The tech has improved, but not enough for a device which will be on 24/7. How many years (months?) will your $1K toy last?
Bob @ Dec 30th 2008 10:48PM
@ Lazarpandar
Actually, if you read it, it's not misleading at all. I said "in comparison" which means you compare the price and picture size. If you take the $2500 20" TV that Sony has and compare it to how many of these you can get for that same price, that's an extra inch in diagonal size, but the price difference is very little. That's what I meant. Now if I had said "Sony's 20 inch TV is only a couple extra inches than one of these" that would be misleading as I specifically said one of these frames.
However, you would still be missing screen real estate if you took only 3 of these, so that is kind of misleading. BUT, I'm not a Sony fanboy, in fact, not sure I've ever owned anything Sony brand, they've always been overpriced (in my opinion).

nerdtalker @ Dec 14th 2008 11:37PM
It almost looks like the dog's confused expression. Even it looks confused at the price.
When I first saw this article I assumed it was another famous Amazon pricing error or something.
skyblaze @ Dec 15th 2008 8:10AM
@who
i was bored from lack of news and wanted to see how much attention i could grab: lots :)

Excellent! All that with the pixel density of an 7 inch Eee PC. Pass.

Is this an error? You might as well get a real computer...
Hannes @ Dec 15th 2008 2:18AM
Agree. In that price category, I would also rather opt for a computer.
therpham @ Dec 14th 2008 9:13PM
I would like to think that most rich people didn't get that way by being stupid, yet it seems that's exactly the market for this device: the stupid and rich. Unless, of course, they accidentally hit 9 one too many times, in which case that would be much more reasonable.
paul34 @ Dec 14th 2008 9:28PM
Don't forget about the rich who are rich due to inheritance.
micklol @ Dec 14th 2008 10:26PM
well...getting shite like this would mean doing something we poor people would not do....so what's there to stop them eh?
Tony @ Dec 15th 2008 12:08AM
no. definately not a mistake. Just look at Sony's 11 inch OLED TV/ 2000 dollars.
Mobius_1 @ Dec 14th 2008 9:18PM
W.T.F. There are many things you could do with a thousand dollars, this shouldn't be on your list.

What the HELL! A $999.95 picture frame, I could buy a TV and have it mounted too. Kodak PLEASE!!!

The dog does not seem too amused with that price...

It's the first big oled picture frame of course it's going to be expensive.
Give it a year and the prices will be cheap!

Montusama @ Dec 14th 2008 9:31PM
Could get an SE X1 for that price and have enough left over to get another phone!, or a very nice HDTV. or... well anything is better
7racer @ Dec 14th 2008 9:36PM
I actually purchased this...ya ya ya....
but anyways the picture is amazing but the customer support is terrible!
For a $1000 frame you would think everything would work like the auto "on"!!! Hello!
And yes, the unit would shut off at the appropriate time but never turn back on....
Kinger @ Dec 14th 2008 9:44PM
wow really?
does it have any video support? whats the sound quality like?
Kinger @ Dec 14th 2008 9:47PM
correction: Amazon: "..enhanced video clarity and outstanding sound reproduction.."
So have you watch any videos off this thing
dlr @ Dec 14th 2008 9:37PM
That dog deserves to be in a $1000 picture frame...he saved a family from a burning farmhouse including a talented three legged pig. The pig lived in the farmhouse because of it's talents...it could dance, answer the door and keep intruders away. Mind you...it had four legs before the fire but...you don't eat a talented pig like that all at once...do you...
nomasteryoda @ Dec 14th 2008 9:53PM
LOLROTF!! .. reminds me of some Irish joke I heard long ago.
greycolumbus @ Dec 15th 2008 5:14AM
Chileans have been known to praise the three legged swine as bringers of luck.
Taylor @ Dec 14th 2008 9:38PM
I work at a Kodak photo print shop, we do sell digital photo frames from Kodak and they are very good quality.
But, don't think that ANYONE is gonna want to spend $1000 on one.
BobTurbo @ Dec 14th 2008 9:41PM
I can see how good that OLED screen is right here on my LCD!#$!@$!!
htd @ Dec 14th 2008 9:49PM
8" LCD SVGA photo frames are $39.99, 49.99...

Thinly veiled reference to Richie Rich's dog, or completely co-inky-dink written by a person too young to even know?
