GPS, GPS Angel promises to keep watch on red light and speed cameras

There's certainly no shortage of devices out there that promise to alert you when you're approaching a red light or speed camera, but if you're looking to keep things as simple as possible, you may want to consider this new so-called GPS Angel device, which pares things down to a couple of buttons and blinking lights. As with similar devices, you're also able to sync it up to your PC to ensure you have all the latest camera locations (Mac users are on their own, unfortunately), and you don't have to worry about a monthly or yearly subscription fee for the service. Head on past the break to check it out in action, and get ready to fork over $129 if you think it'll do the job for you.

or you could not drive like a jackass.
sorry, but after 3 years in Los Angeles I've developed a huge disdain for people that suck at driving.
That's okay. I live in Seattle... And people here can't drive in the rain... And we get more rain the anywhere else... The other day, it snowed, and some how... on camera... A cop in a Jeep equipped with 4 wheel drive, managed to lose control that shit. I was in awe. Yup. That's who I want saving me... The cop who took out three other cars trying to save one... What a douche.
@Bandigolo: Apparently you havent seen this video from the great city of Seattle.....

Los Angeles sucks nuts, they have their lights rigged so it changes from green to yellow to red in under a second and takes a picture of you in the intersection. Whereas in the rest of the country there is a pause where most people can complete going through the yellow light. I visited that shit hole as a tourist and got slapped with a $350 fucking tax (aka red light camera) for entering in an intersection when the light was changing from green to yellow and then INSTANTLY to red. Fuckin' extortion is what it is.
lol - holy shit, that video was hilarious!
wtf was it snowing that day? Crisco? My lord, those cars might as well have bowling balls for tires.
there is a difference from people who suck at driving and those that go faster.
@ feffrey
Yah and there is a difference between people who know how to go fast and people who think they are hot shit when in actuality they are dipshits who don't know how to take environment into consideration.
guess what category most of the people who drive fast fall into?
Is that a Roomba?
That's what I thought!
Its the keychain version that doesn't uh... vacuum. Or move.
Roomba dustbuster.
damn, beat me to the "roomba's second job?" gag...
Useful, but annoying.
Trapster for the Jesusphone is free and works very well
Where is that camera where is that darn camera?
oh, I see it! look up there in the tree... aaaah! bump thud thud..
dude! I just ran over that woman and her baby!
You know what would be a much better use of this technology? how about making a car that does not let you speed period!. Every street sign should have some sort of TX that tells the car what the speed limit is, and no matter how much you floor it, the car does not accelerate.
and how long do you think it would take for someone to figure out how to turn that $h!t off ?? xP
That sounds very smart, iCandy. So that when you try passing someone who is going below the speedlimit, but decides to be a jackass and speed up while you're trying to pass them... at which point you realize that because of this new delay, you can no longer avoid the semi that is approaching because you are in its lane.
Or, you can no longer dodge the red light runner.
Or, you can no longer choose the appropriate speed for the situation.
We could cripple people's cars... or we could do something called personal responsibility.
Or be unable to pass? Or unable to avoid a dangerous situation?
@KaiKai,
This is to help people avoid getting tickets and demerit points. Not to babysit drunk drivers and 40 year olds who have no sense of responsibility behind the wheel.
Obviously there would be a switch to turn off the speed limit feature and disengage it for highway routes and emergencies.
In all my years of driving I have never had the need to floor it through a school zone...
paul34 could not have expressed my opinion on the set speed limits any better, thanks.
How are we going to run from the apocalypse then?!? XD
But yeah, I agree people should just obey the rules of the road and drive with their brains on.
response to iCandy comment:
>>You know what would be a much better use of this technology? how about making a car that does not let you speed period!. Every >>street sign should have some sort of TX that tells the car what the speed limit is, and no matter how much you floor it, the car does >>not accelerate.
I already read something similar to your idea. The road sign does not send data to the car, your GPS knows you are in a 35 miles zone and will not let your go faster.
You could even have the car snitch on you! The device could tell you where going 70 miles a hour in a 35 miles zone!
What would be the point of having a car like that?
Maybe to get insurance credit or something similar and prove you drive safelly.
Hey guys, don't low rank iCandy, I can barely see the avatar.
one word FUGLY
not as fugly as your "oh-shit" face caught on a red light camera!
How is this news? It's been out in Europe for nearly 3 years.
Ike, meet Dan.
Ike, you beat me by a minute :)
And the GPS Angel has been available in the UK now for how many years?
Does it flash when you begin to travel at ramming speed?
This just in, thousands of people who drive on the 10/60 and whatever else we have here fwy in PHX.
I have only two comments on this device:
It should have a radar detector built in as well.
It might get a little annoying when you are actually stopping at those intersections.
Anyone think this looks exactly like the Creative Infra serial transceiver for their remote?
"I'm a PC, and I can avoid traffic cameras."
Yes indeed. With yet another peripheral... bravo?
I've got one of these from Amazon and it's awesome. They have these cameras everywhere in the Maryland area and I was getting tickets on making LEGAL right on reds (yes the cameras take your picture when you do those and don't stop COMPLETELY). I wasn't running red lights or driving like an idiiot - just normal driving and making legal rights on reds.
So you can diss it and how it looks all you want - but I'm not getting any more tickets.
well unless your legally blind, its easy to spot the large 'photo enforced' signs at intersections, not to mention if you have half a brain you would see the black magnetic strips in the pavement and realize its a camera. oh yeah and why arent you be watching the crosswalk sign to know if your ganna hit the red light or not? so many people are SO oblivious to the road its ridiculous.
thank god california has a law prohibition cameras from catching you purely on speeding, the 405 wouldnt be a racetrack anymore at 2am haha
prohibited?
I see signs all the time in the bay area with MPH signs saying "Radar Enforced" or something similar. Are you saying the sign doesn't have any real merit and it's just to scare us into driving slow?
Looks like the memory game, Simon.
This thing is not new at all and already available in Europe for years (including UK)
A french company is making those for years. They just changed the name for the US market.
See http://www.gpsinforad.com/
Yet another device that "helps" people avoid tickets because they're so innocent when they run that red light. I don't care how long its been in the UK. UK driving laws != US driving laws. These and radar detectors should be banned. What they really promote is 1. Speeding 2. Avoiding getting caught by the police 3. Reckless driving by avoiding the lights that have cameras so they can go and run red lights at other intersections without them.
Btw...yellow lights mean *slow* down not speed up so I can get thru the intersection and *hopefully* miss the red light. That mentality is exactly what causes intersection accidents. If the lights aren't long enough go take it up with your congressman, preferably during an election year and get a poop ton of people involved.
@macuser25 - If Maryland traffic law is anything like VA law then you basically performed a "California" stop which is illegal. In Va you're technically supposed to stop at any red light/stop sign for about 3 seconds. If you just roll right on through that isn't stopping. Just because the vast majority of drivers drive a certain != the correct way to drive.
Why is there a Roomba in his car?
