Samsung announces new 65nm ARM9 processor -- for digital photo frames
Think digital photo frames are just an annoying passing fad? Samsung begs to differ, taking this market segment so seriously that it has developed a custom processor exclusively for use in the things: the 65nm S5L2010. It's capable of rendering a 57 megapixel JPEG in one second flat -- useful for the RED DSMC crowd but perhaps a bit overkill for the rest of us. However, everyone should be able to appreciate integrated decoding of most audio and video formats, support for nearly every shape of memory card under the sun, and out of the box handling for LED backlit LCDs, all integrated into the processor to save production costs. To all the digi-frame moguls out there: if you're looking to get started on the next generation, this is your ticket, leaving Q1 of 2009.[Via Engadget Spanish]

I have a feeling this will get modded :D
Great, now my entire family can watch HD porn in the same room! :D
that's disgusting
It'd be nice if it supported PoE.
i guess if you want to make sure you have cat5 run to this thing... but i think a power outlet would be simpler and cheaper.
I would love to have a frame that can run Electric Sheep. http://www.electricsheep.org/ My babies love to fall asleep watching it.
Technically all you need to run electricsheep is the ability to download from a website and the ability to play medium res MPEG2 video. Something that shouldn't take too much CPU power. Of course it wouldn't be able to contribute back to generating them, but that's not a big deal I guess
I know a lot of people on here thing Digital Photo Frames are a bit faddy, but I think they can make a great gift for the right person. We've bought one for my grandmother this year and loaded it up with lots of photos of the entire family (including some who live on the other side of the world) so that she can have them all easily accessible without having to dig out huge photo albums.
Now all we lack before we lose any interest is that $1000+ price tag.
Soon, digital photo frames will be able to play Crysis!
I like watching my photos at 30fps.
