Video: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic unboxing
We've seen reviews, videos, and video reviews of Nokia's touchscreen 5800 XpressMusic, but sometimes you just can't get enough of a good thing, so luckily Mobile Bulgaria's here to help you out with their unboxing video. You get a hot 19 seconds of the box just chilling all by itself on a table at the front-end of this celluloid masterpiece, then some real unboxing, handling action, all with a smooth, atmospheric soundtrack. You can check out the 5800 in the video after the break, or you can start the video, lay back and travel on a journey of the mind. Your choice.

FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I COULD EAT THIS PHONE!!!! NOW LOW RANK ME!!!!!
It's not a good idea to go high on crack before you comment on Engadget, you might regret it later...
Trust me, I know this.
Yeah... You used way to much crack today. I only use that much when I am trying to pull off death defying stunts and acrobatics.
N97 or 5800?
N97,it just looks more classy and stylish
it is also better in every way
N97, it's more expensive so must be better. :P
N97...
the 5800 looks a bit on the cheap side as far as materials is concerned =/
N97's got a keyboard. I don't like that. I'm going to try the 5800. Too bad it's not got a better camera. & made from metal or higher build quality.
Depends when you need it.. the N97 is due for first half of 2009, meaning it can be out in a month or in 6 months..
whats with all the animals replying?
@trevor: Cats & dogs have never been good at keypads. We've been waiting for touchscreens since software can help when our big, meaty paws push down on the screen.
lol, kudos
Thanks for the LOL guys!
Thanks for the LOL guys!
5800, is a lot cheaper. N97 has too few real advantages (for me) over 5800 to deserve double price and 6 more months waiting. Plus 0.3" bigger screen, 32 GB memory, a little better performance, keyboard and better camera (but without xenon) and widgets cant convince me pay 400 dollars more. I'd rather get a 5800 + a netbook for the same money. Or a 5800 + a ultra compact camera, which will perform way better. But if you have enough money to spend, N97 seems a good solution. To me the 8 GB memory 5800 comes with is enough, 3.2" is great, keyboard ... I'm not the SMS type ... and I am an advanced photographer so a phone wont be enough for anything serious ... just some fun maybe.
Thank God for Mobile Bulgaria,
The Balkans finest source of Mobile Infomation.
If anyone is interested, there is a whole review on that site + another video (17min) + some pics
http://www.mobilebulgaria.com/tests/view.php?id=81
Unfortunately there is no English version, but the video has no speach anyway, so it's not that important.
For those who don't speak Bulgarian, in essence, the reviewers liked it a lot.
it takes great discipline not to have that battery popped in and the thing turned on as soon as it left the box. There's no way I could wait 8 minutes and 43 seconds.
Not as elegant and simple as the iPhone
I can see your future iKurt.
It looks... faded.
iKurt, meet iEYE. Oh, your the same person.
You're absolutely right. How dare functionality and usability ruin an elegantly simple design!
I think I'm going to buy this when it come to the UK and wait for the next gen iphones/blackberrys/nokias. This will tie me over until summer of 2010 when hopefully we've got the iphone launch along with a new blackberry storm.
iPhone launch...?
You haven't been to a Carphone warehouse in a while have you?
I obviously meant an updated iPhone or is that too hard to understand.
if this were an iPhone, engadget would provide a crazy amount of photo gallery along more videos
Yup. And for the next 6 months they would cover everything that comes out for it. Cases, Headphones, Games, Cases, Docks, Stereo Docks, Useless shit, Cases For the Blind, Some Headphones.
And while all that is going on, other phones are coming out, and then all of the sudden, pictures are popping up with the new phone getting compared to this phone.
Then people are flaming, and people are fan boys. And engadget gets hated on for biased articles, then defended by taking money from Apple.
Oh wait.
Ughh. Ummm.
This phone. Umm. Oh it's made by nokia? Well. I'll just wait for the N97.
You're right. We've barely hit any news on this. We didn't even do a hands-on! Oh, wait, what was that? We did? And we have loads of posts on it even though it's not available in America? And we've been tracking it since it was just a rumored device called the "Tube"? Weird.

But in all seriousness, I hope Steve Jobs doesn't find out we covered this -- he may stop sending money to us.
@ Joshua, there is coverage and there is engadget-style-Apple coverage. Just cuz you have sarcastically posted entries on Nokia phones in the past, it doesn't mean you gave it the same enthusiasm as you would with the "other" device maker. Just saying.
Why are you guys being all hostile in your replies anyways. We are just commenting, thats all.
@Josh,
Now that I know that you guys sometimes peruse the comments of your own website, do you laugh at all the "engadget and apple sitting in a tree k_i_s_s_i_n_g" comments or do they piss you off?
Here... Coverage! You friggin' whiners :)

@Joshua, why have you suddenly become so confrontational? From what I've read, Andy has stated nothing but the truth. If this were an Apple product, you would have a 'definitive review' of it that would be advertised on the Engadget main page for months. You would post about the smallest of rumours, even the silly ones. Basically, you would give it FAR more attention.
By the way, the 5800 is certainly available in the States, haven't been reading Engadget Mobile, have you?
Did anyone get that super secret sim unlock code?
so laggy
..............thats what she said.
that's a she actually.
I got a chance to play with the 5800 at the Nokia store in Chicago. It felt nice but typing was a pain and the browser was so-so. A fancy Zune if you ask me. There was talk about WiMax phones dropping Q1 though.
Can it DivX? MKV? Resolutions?
TXT/PDF viewer? widescreen? bookmarks?
of course, and it can also run Crysis on very high with 20x AA
Ha wow, he cut the security seal with his fingernail!!! He must be fricking Hancock.
Wow, an unboxing without a wobbly camera?!? Someone who has access to newly released phone has a tripod! Yay!
The first 10 minutes were a complete waste of 10 minutes.
If you call fumbling around for 20 seconds trying to open the box a "waste", well so be it. I, for one, was enthralled all the way to 8.34 when the action really started to go crazy.
You need a stylus to operate? Now, that is a century old phone I'm afraid. :)
this sucks blows etc,im just gonna wait for the iphone nano announcement in jan.,should be as SLIM AS NEW TOUCH.,
I have it.
The screen requires a bit of a harder push because it's not a plain old capacitive screen, and can take a stylus for handwriting. That's according to reviews. Without know this information, you'd just think that the Nokia 5800 was more difficult.....
Anyway, I love mine. There are a number of advantages over something like the LG, Samsung, iPhone, etc. Compared to the iPhone, I can think of 4 or 5 major benefits. For example, mine came with an earphone controller thing, which means you don't need to take it out of your pocket to changes songs, stop/pause, forward and rewind, skip tracks, etc. Also, it was around US $300 cheaper than buying an iPhone outright (no contract, unlocked) in Australia, and even cheaper than doing so in a place like Hong Kong.
"Atmospheric" soundtrack for most of the vid is "Moments in Love" by Art of Noise.
Regarding the device, it looks absolutely Huge. I just bought an E1 and love that it gets lost in my pocket - can't imagine lugging this beast around. And I bet that backlighting the big screen will drag that little battery down in no time flat.
Although I've never bought an Apple product for myself (although I grudgingly bought my two daughters iPods) I can appreciate the form factor of the iPhone. It's not for me, but it obviously for a hella lot of folk out there.
Nice unboxing. Crazy there are now whole websites devoted to this stuff. http://itsunboxed.com
Thsi "tocuhscreens" seems to be defective. Why is it not responding? C'mon Nokia...
read first the owner manual MF
