Pentax K2000 to come in Limited Edition black-and-white cookie style

Pentax's K2000's already gotten itself some... shall we say "glowing" reviews, but news that the DSLR will now come in a Limited Edition white is like icing on a super delicious cake. The camera will be exactly the same as its old-fangled black predecessor, and will come with custom white-and-black 18-55mm and 50-200mm lenses. Considering the real lack of color in the DSLR category, some people should be pretty stoked when it goes on sale in February. An exact price wasn't released, but the black K2000 runs about $800.

FIRST white camera Ive seen in a while.
FIRST person who liked chinese democracy i've seen in a while
A giant yawn for Pentax. Kind of ugly if you ask me. Also, those white parts are going to get crazy dirty!
Why do I get the feeling this is the camera Dan Akroyd would have used in "Spies like Us"
love the visual
looks more like something a storm trooper would carry
I'm still waiting for a camera that makes this noise when I take a picture.
"HEY! You over there, do you see this expensive camera I got? Yeah, the one dangling off my neck by a thin strap. Hey, do you see it? Yeah, it's the one that can easily be resold for a massive profit and can't be tracked. You might have seen this expensive and concealable item, so I'm telling you."
You must really enjoy re-buying your stuff on eBay...
Don't really understand the low-ranking. White electronics are much easier to recognize. iPod muggings are mostly due to white earbuds. A thief would have no problem taking the unsecured strap off your neck and running off with your camera. Sure, they'd probably steal your camera if it were black, but a black camera doesn't stand out as much as a white camera. Besides, you're taking pictures WITH the camera, not OF the camera. How many pros/prosumers don't use all-black cameras?
looks awesome. Black cameras are so boring.
Agreed. Looks fricking awesome.
o.O
Given the rough bashing that big cameras are more likely to get, white is never a good choice of colour.
Glad I didn't buy the K2000 from Amazon for less...oh, wait, this color scheme sucks.
looks like crap.
That's what she said.
I think you should go see your doctor asap!
thatll be $1600 if its colorwared.
Hard to tell if that's a matte finish or if its glossy. If it's glossy its a cheap attempt to attract the i-pod leet out there... If it's matte, then maybe, MAYBE this wont be an issue.
Cameras are black for a reason. So as to not glare or reflect light.
I bought an Olympus E-Volt 500 D-SLR 2 years back, the first one was silver. I was so happy when the guy said it was last in the store. It looked kick ass. However, I noticed right away while using my umbrella flash kits an anomaly. This was caused by a slight reflection from the camera body. NOTHING, short of covering the thing in black hockey tape would solve the issue. What did solve the issue though, is taking the camera back to where I bought it and exchanging it for the black bodied model.
It is very attractive though in white I must say. that being said, maybe there are clinical applications for a camera that needs to look sterile. Or maybe a camera that looks like it came from the set of the (original 1971 Film) Andromeda Strain.
its a camera...its matte
Well Mike, CLEARLY not all camera bodies are matte. As I just finished explaining the follies of NOT having a matte body on a previous camera I owned. Perhaps you should read all of a post before enlightening us with your nuggets of wisdom. Or in this case, dumbing us down with useless comments from someone who knows nothing of the subject. oK?thX!
@Agent .25i
In all fairness this *is* Pentax, and Pentax has a sort of a thing for the sort-of-sandpaper-y-matte finish, so it shouldn't be a problem unlike Olympus which seems to have no real attachment to external build styles.
Yes Apoc, I am aware of the sandpaper type texture you speak of, however, in all the shots Ive seen thus far of this camera, none of them look as though this has that type of finish. Even on the picture above, when looking at it you can tell it's smooth.
Seriously, how many K2000 users do you think will use studio lighting kit? It's an entry-level model. It doesn't even support a cable release.
I dunno Dundunduuun. I suppose your right, like Rawhead says, it's for the "mommy's" out there. Or young-un's that want something to match all their AppleWare.
I like the White and Black look. Oh, sorry Black and White.
I wonder if it takes black and white pictures only?
first thought....stormtroopers
begging for women's penny.
K2000 goes for somewhere between $500-$600 if you can hunt around, and I've seen people win them from Ebay vendors for less than $400. That's with the kit lens. It is a seriously high cost/performance camera.
The K2000 (or, K-m, and in m for "mom") was originally conceptualized and cater a lot to the "mommy" target group (everything about the Japanese Pentax K-m page http://www.pentax.jp/japan/imaging/digital/slr/k-m/feature.html gives it away); I'm sure the mommies would just devour this white look.
why pentax? WHY??? I was expecting something exciting in this announcement... *sigh* sticking with my K100DS
I think that article title should look more like this:
"Pentax K2000 to come in Limited Edition Panda style"
even with my status as an anti-panda death squadron member, i admit that would be cool.
The Mandalorians called and... actually I like it too :)
Why do i suddenly have an Oreo craving?
I still like my K200D better :]
Looks interesting, but I prefer cameras that don't draw attention (an invisible one would be nice). Or one that looks like a point and shoot, but performs as well as a DSLR, including using the same lenses, etc. (I know, that is impossible...). And no, the Panasonic G1 doesn't really count.
sure beats the 90s silver color of the rebels
and the k-mount makes this a panda compatible with almost any lens made by pentax since the 60s
what a panda
awesome move i think
What would be neat is to see a bunch of these pandas popping up on ebay having professional artists decorate them custom.
exactly like my first BMX, no kidding!
What about Oreos?
This might be useful for people shooting in hot conditions. The white body will reflect more light, reducing the heat on the sensor and thus improve noise performance. However it may pose problems for people using studio flash or working at close distances, since the body may reflect the light onto the subject.
I'm not into cameras, but that looks cool and'll definietly stand out among every other black SLR. Looks like some high tech piece of lab equipment.
Wasn't this a prop in Attack of the Clones?
So 80s... the perfect match when you emerge in your white clothes from your white car in your pathetic poser emulation of MIAMI VICE that you call your life.
Black = I look like a Canon
White = Steal me. I'm a rare breed
Wow. A Star Wars Stormtrooper themed DSLR. Lord Vader should be pleased.
Yeah baby, Empire Strikes Back!..

PS: A quick-n-dirty PS job that I did for another forum, then I saw it was already talked about here, but anyway, I wanted to post. :-)
I doubt it's glossy. I like canon and nikon but pentax has beat everyone by far in terms of build quality. I can't imagine them going with a glossy finish, the matte finished they put on their products rub nasty spills on pavement right off with ease.
What's its feature? Just a 'Edtion limited'? I don't like that. I just bought a Casio FH20, cousin of Casio EX-F1 which is 40-per-second high speed shooting. In order to capture some views in time, I need a replacement battery. Usually I bought replacement batteries for my digital camera from this url: http://www.digital-camera-batteries.net/casio/np-20.htm
