Pine-scented ASUS F6V laptop gets unboxed, smelled
We're not ones to just abruptly stick our nostrils in someone's business, but we couldn't help but drift over when waltzing by PC Authority's most recent unboxing. The smell we caught was of pine, and given that it's a pine-scented ASUS F6V that's being unwrapped, we suppose that all adds up. On the real, testers took note of an "unmistakable wafting scent of a pine forest, floating on the summer breeze and carrying away their troubles" as they cracked the seal on the carefree machine. For those curious, the scent was far from overbearing, though it was strong enough to separate itself from, um, non-smelly alternatives. Sadly, critics also mentioned that the odor had "almost entirely disappeared" after it had sat out in the open for a few hours, and at last check, there's no way to recharge or refill these things. Ah well, pack a few Christmas Tree Air Fresheners™ and you'll never know the difference.

I have bought dolls with strawberry scent for my niece, but a pine scented laptop?
This is crazy.

Mmmmm piney...
bootareen @ Dec 16th 2008 2:42PM
The smell disappears? That's pretty lame. I guess it reflects what' happening to our real forests.

I think I'll just get some of those air fresheners since I can't afford to buy a new one of these every few hours.

If then can make it run on Pine Sol count me in, its hell of a lot cheaper then refilling a fuel cell.

They should put scent in the CPU thermal paste, so that it evaporates more when under load
That would give you a nice fragrant way to tell your CPU usage.

Hummm, I wonder what the fire effect coming from the back of the laptop is for?

This may sound silly but, is there anyway to smell before you buy it. Like let's say you were interested in one of these but wasn't quite sure what "Aqua Ocean" would smell like. Certainly looks like a cool laptop but what if you don't like the smell that comes with that particular color? (Okay the review says it disappears quickly so this may all be pointless)
Oli D @ Dec 16th 2008 3:24PM
Aqua ocean smells like water
EskimoPie @ Dec 16th 2008 4:22PM
And what does water smell like?
Oli D @ Dec 16th 2008 5:33PM

The best ASUS product is the EeePC 1002HA.... I just love it !!!
loocas @ Dec 16th 2008 7:15PM
I wonder why you got low-ranked for this, fanboyism?
Hmmm....
sr @ Dec 16th 2008 4:02PM
Eh. I prefer the new laptop chemical smell.
Naris @ Dec 16th 2008 4:26PM
From what I've read elsewhere the scents are light activated. If you're a WoW or other hardcore gamer who doesn't see the light often this would work to freshen up if you turn on the light.
Another review thought the pink one smelled vaguely like flowers, and I'd imagine the blue one would smell like sea salt.
loocas @ Dec 16th 2008 5:36PM
Thank god! I thought this was one of those ANUS computers...

Apple does this too with new computers such as the Mac Pro, they spritz some perfume into the box before taping it closed.
It's a big hit with the female purchasers!
