Korean scientists create transparent memory chip... or so they tell us
Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology claim to have created a see-through non-volatile memory chip based on resistive random-access memory (RRAM) technology. Made with transparent oxide film and electrodes on clear glass or plastic circuit boards, the group believes commercial production could begin in 3 to 4 years and could be cheaply manufactured (current backers of RRAM include Fujitsu, Sharp, Samsung and others). They're hopeful the new technology will pave the way for transparent devices such as monitors and televisions. No images of the transparent chip have been published -- but they're not much to look at, anyway.

I wonder if the neighbours heard me lolling. I mean, laughing. Very loudly.
Moving to other issues, this means our future robotic overlords can have their brains on their skins!
Haha.. this is just pure genius! xD
I'll believe it when I see it!
The Dramurai first announce they're cutting production 30% next year. Then someone claims they can sell you "invisible chips". See what's going on here?
if u look at the pic hard enough, it comes with X59 intel chipsets. (grin)
Oh okay, so all the chips in future will "look" alike.
WYSIWYG? Hah! WYDontSIWYDontG!
WYDSIWYDG would've been less 'in the face' and would've been funnier after a 15-min thinking period.
only the pure in mind can ever hope to see - just like the golden robe. believe me, those of us who can look at this without drooling on our keyboards can see it
Pfft, whatever. I invented an mp3 player that's not just transparent, but also silent. It also introduces for the first time in the real world, a full-time noclip feature. That's right, no more bulky mp3 players with corners jabbing you in your pockets-the noclip feature lets it go anywhere, anytime.
I'd be happy to sell the patent rights on this for a mere million dollars. Wait, make that euros.
Pfft, a million dollars? Make it lighter than air so that it floats next right to me so I don't even have to touch it. Also make it thought controlled so I only can hear the music in my head. Then I'll buy it.
i just loved the image
LOL! Nice photo.
Wonder Woman can finally upgrade her plane.
The Invisible Jet is not a plane.
Better go into hiding after a blatant Amazonian insult like that.
I mean do they still have the thickness and size of our traditional internals? If so whats the point. Id rather see a tiny 2 nm (not sure how that scale works) quad chip 4.0 ghz per core than the one I have now just see through.....
kids give me an example of oxymoron
"Korean Scientists"
+1 for the pic for sure :D
Now, as to why we need transparent memory chip... my physics is a bit rusty so I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe that in general, transparent materials absorb less heat, which may also imply they dissipate it quicker, which means transparent chips will heat up less.
