and there goes my iphone on ebay
Darren @ Dec 21st 2008 4:50PM
Hope you get a lot of money for it, because you're still paying for that iPhone as long as you have a monthly contract with AT&T.
bob sakamano @ Dec 21st 2008 4:53PM
no, it was very easy to call and cancel my plan
john @ Dec 21st 2008 8:37PM
the iphone is great but lets face it... its just not a blackberry storm :(
ajfarson @ Dec 22nd 2008 8:57AM
Not a blackberry storm... yeah the iphone actually works, and people aren't returning them in droves!
i.c. weiner @ Dec 21st 2008 11:12PM
@ john
And why is that a bad thing???
yellowsn0w @ Dec 31st 2008 7:55AM

Nathaniel @ Dec 21st 2008 4:32PM
I'll take one for tmo...
NSoria @ Dec 21st 2008 4:33PM
Well unless that G2 comes to fruition... darn, more waiting.
Chris @ Dec 21st 2008 4:45PM
I don't mean to ruin your excitement but T-mobile 3G operates at a different frequency then the iphone 3G supports so you'd be stuck with EDGE even if you were on an iphone 3G
page87 and counting @ Dec 21st 2008 5:35PM
Uh Chris, the iPhone is quad band.
OziD @ Dec 21st 2008 6:22PM
uhh page87, the iphone3g has Tri band UMTS / HSDPA: UMTS 850 / 1900 / 2100 for 3g.
tmobile operates on 1700mhz, which is none of those numbers.
ace587 @ Dec 21st 2008 6:23PM
Chris is correct, he meant the 3G frequences, the iPhone doesnt support Tmobile 3G
Rob Conway @ Dec 21st 2008 8:27PM
@ Chris and OziD
That's exactly why i don't have an iPhone 3g. I'm sure i could scrape up enough money to get one off contract, but I would have to unlock it and use it on TMobile, then what's the point? My credit is so bad i'd probably have to give ATT my daughters ovaries to get a contract, then she'd probably be a little pissed when she gets older and wants to make babies. So I guess I'll just stick with my first gen iPhone.
GenoMalice @ Dec 21st 2008 9:00PM
hahaha... Rob's comment for the funniest of the day!
..........hope your not considering going through with that plan tho
ILoveApple @ Dec 21st 2008 4:32PM
I was unlocking my iPhone 3G then I jizzed in my pants.
Game_playa @ Dec 21st 2008 4:35PM
If you truly loved Apple, you would not do such ANTI-APPLE things
ILoveApple @ Dec 21st 2008 4:40PM
I DO truly love Apple. Your mother's Adam's apple, that is.
KeatMP @ Dec 21st 2008 5:06PM
I'm guessing y'all haven't seen that youtube video yet.
Bryant @ Dec 21st 2008 6:14PM
I was eating an apple and I--
TMcCamant @ Dec 21st 2008 6:21PM
it's not anti Apple it is anti AT&T
Alpinerover @ Dec 21st 2008 7:04PM
Here is the URL for the uninitiated... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pXfHLUlZf4
It's even better in HD!
Matt @ Dec 21st 2008 4:33PM
Its still a shame in the US. Even after you unlock it you still cant use t-mobile 3G. 1700MHZ FTL.
Alpinerover @ Dec 21st 2008 4:41PM
Agreed. The whole mobile phone industry in the U.S. is a shame really.
Neejay @ Dec 22nd 2008 8:52AM
Yep. It's all about money. Money rules everything.
Nomi @ Dec 21st 2008 4:38PM
Now I regret upgrading my baseband.... *sigh*
dave @ Dec 21st 2008 4:41PM
So is it possible to downgrade the firmware and baseband yet?
erwin @ Dec 21st 2008 4:52PM
Finally...
icchan @ Dec 21st 2008 4:58PM
yay Now I can buy a iPhone 3G :D
Ross @ Dec 21st 2008 7:32PM
yes! but no 3G :D isn't that just peachy...
sam @ Dec 21st 2008 5:00PM
Just if apple would allow us uk people to order online and subscribe from home:( even if they charged us a £100 fee for not registering it within 1 month or something that would be good. Doesn't look like us who want a cheap unlocked iphone without needing a contract will be able to get 1.
Anyone know if its possible to order in uk without having to sign up for contract there and then?
Phily @ Dec 21st 2008 5:18PM
A pay-as-you-go iPhone maybe?
Hexxeh @ Dec 21st 2008 5:19PM
They're doing them Pay as you Go now...
Phily @ Dec 21st 2008 5:21PM

danybrancho @ Dec 21st 2008 5:04PM
what program are they using to get the iphone to display on that mac
ant @ Dec 21st 2008 5:14PM
what's the point in unlocking when you're already tied to a contract.
i suppose it benefits payg users though.
sam @ Dec 21st 2008 5:26PM
£342 tho for pay as you go phone from 02 :(
Phily @ Dec 21st 2008 5:55PM
Yup, yea pay for not having a subdised phone on a contact. You end up paying nearly the cost of the handset, but usually on PAYG yea get the option to get it unlocked after yea pay X amount on topups.
Darth @ Dec 21st 2008 5:31PM
I am not sure why you would want to go to T-Mobile. In the US there isn't much choice for you on a GSM phone. I do applaud the unlocking and I guess Pay as you go it another option. But I would not want to put my iPhone on T-Mobile, even if I could use their 3G
loocas @ Dec 21st 2008 5:50PM
Well, on the other hand, it's the only phone on this planet that needs unlocking so you can finally freely start using it, that might excuse the histerical massive media coverage.
Shugg @ Dec 21st 2008 5:51PM
wow so should I buy an unlocked iPhone3g fir $700 instead of 199,,?
Will I get more apps with tmobil here's in USA??
So will 3g plan still be 30$ month with tmobil??
Garst @ Dec 21st 2008 6:05PM
I don't think it matter's how much T-mobile's 3G plan is. From what I understand, AT&T and T-mobile use different 3G technology so you won't be able to use T-mobile's 3G network if you happen to live in one of the few places it's offered.
M @ Dec 21st 2008 5:57PM
The firmware was 2.2. I thought this could not be done on 2.2 firmware?
Jeff @ Dec 21st 2008 8:55PM
It can be updated to 2.2 with the PwnageTool available only for the Mac. The PwnageTool strips the baseband update out of the firmware update and then updates the iPhone.
Garst @ Dec 21st 2008 6:03PM
I'm tired of all the whining about AT&T's network. I'm sure where ever you live, AT&T's network is better than any network where I live.
ace587 @ Dec 21st 2008 6:24PM
time to sell for profit :D
shugg @ Dec 21st 2008 6:25PM
does anyone know if tmobil will make iphone3g faster that att 3g?
i can buy unlocked 3g for 659$ instead of 199$ but 3g plan is 35$ thru tmobil usa,so doesnt save money.
will i have access to apple free apps store.,?
gps?
visual vmail.,?
is tmobil faster than att3g 2-3 mbps?
what are the benefits to pay $659 for iphone3g unlocked over 189$ in usa??
will unlocking void the 1 year apple warranty?
help
OziD @ Dec 21st 2008 6:30PM
no, yes, yes, no, maybe but not on the iphone, better customer service, and yes.
to be a little more specific: you probably won't ever get tmobile 3g on an iphone 3g. the app store should work on an unlocked phone, gps has nothing to do with the cell phone service, no to visual voicemail on tmobile, tmobile might be faster i don't know personally, customer service is better @ tmobile and i think the plans can be cheaper if you do it right, and yes unlocking voids the warranty... if you took it into an apple store they'd tell you they can't even look at your phone if its jailbroken or unlocked.
Darth @ Dec 21st 2008 6:35PM
Garst, I have AT&T and yes they are great in my area. Verizon's good too. T-Mobile is not.
gonintendo @ Dec 21st 2008 7:41PM
yeah, when I had tmo, I would have to stand on the fifth step on my porch to get any reception.
