Pasen's REI-16 PMP gets examined on video
We greeted the promising Pasen REI-16 with lots of skepticism, and truthfully, this thing still has some work to do to shake the dreadful shackles of the Pasen brand that we've always known. However, the video hosted up after the break does a fairly awesome job of proving that the firm's new owners are serious about producing quality kit. The unit demonstrated is described as an "almost final sample," and so far, we're really digging the interface. Everything looks satisfactorily intuitive, and on the real, we actually caught a whiff of envy watching those thumbs go to town. Don't let us down, Pasen -- we think you've got a winner on your hands here.

FAIL
I FAIL.
There, I corrected it for you
Care to elaborate on your (admittedly, wrong) opinion?
3-inch screen, FM transmitter, radio, built in speaker, lots other features nobody can or ever will fully discover or use, presumably for a decent price. I like it. :)
@Mobius_1
How can an opinion be wrong? That's just silly!
I WANT IT!. It looks soo smooth in the transitions and a speaker! Viewing pictures seem really slow though. It would be nice if this thing supported FLAC and ogg.
It does support FLAC,OGG and APE,altough ape tags aren't supported yet.
If you are wondering how do I know,it's because I'm from Pasen.I'm always very active on the web so I welcome any comment that may let us improve our players.
the ui looks a little familiar, especially those sliders...
Nice little device, the guy who owns pasen said that he really insisted to the OEM that they make something decent ha ha.
The device physically is a Teclast M33 in china, however the firmware is like that of the Teclast T50.
Pasen are on to something here I think, the T50 is a great device I have a rebrand of it known as an S:flo and its UI is great, and the touch sensitivity and accuracy is great.
Perhaps this will be the start of "good"* devices coming out of china.
* By good I mean people not instantly bashing them just because they're Chinese.
Looks pretty good, will probably end up in the mid-range of mp3 players. As it has a nice feature set but doesn't seem particularly 'premium', maybe Pasen will finally be able to shake their reputation.
Best part of the whole video was the Orb track played at the beginning. Kudos for taste in music, but not the best track to demonstrate a PMP. People might have thought it was a musical weather forecast or something.
I'm getting tired of the 'me too' UI design. Could those arrow buttons etc. look any MORE like an Apple interface? But I suppose Apple started the UI copying craze a LONG time ago, so they reap what they sow.
> Best part of the whole video was the Orb track played at the beginning
Totally agree. Kudos for your taste.
Yeah i have to agree the arrows alone for the back button makes the UI very reminiscent of a certain fruit. I could easily overlook that if the sound quality beats out the Apple which is honestly not that hard to do. If this player is strong enough to power some of the higher end headphones without an amp and without a hiss, then i would replace my hopes for the S9 and consider the Pasen
If the FW is anything like the S:flo/T50 like it looks, then you can change all of that stuff pretty easily.
I hope they make a more unique UI themselves but if they don't it be no problem for someone to make a better one.
They're not even trying to hide the fact they've completely ripped off Apple's touch interface.
It's hilarious when it's on such a butt-ugly device.
They should halt production to save a few landfills, don't you think?
The UI as I have said is just an adapted version of the T50 firmware, from the factory, I'm sure Pasen will make their own UI.
As for the other things beauty is a subjective thing, although more importantly this is a device that will either be in your pocket on something you'd watch a movie on, not wear round you neck as bling.
Yes! Hopefully they will integrate the Xbox 360 and the Zune.
I just got my sister to get rid of her two crap ipods for a zune and she LOVES IT
Does it have wifi? 'cause if not, it's just an mp3 player with touch, but without much need for it.
I'd say WiFi is more of an unnecessary luxury then touch technology, as in all seriousness with almost every phone now having wide ranging internet access and WiFi hotspots becoming seemingly even more sparse and more expensive to use why would you need one on an mp3 player? It seems like the only time people connect to the internet on their iTouch is to buy more games/songs anyway, which is a little pointless considering how long it takes to download these things.
It looks so much like the iriver phone.
Everyone is saying iPhone, but I thought it looked really similar to Android as well. Well, I guess you can only do so much with a touchscreen interface...
wow, first iphone revolutioniized the cell phone industry.,n now the touch is revoltionizing the pmp/mp3 industry.,sucks for applehaters.go to ifap.to on touch or iphone only
Doesn't suck at all for us, we let Apple get the UI right, then we simply wait until Cowon/iRiver/Samsung/Sony/Meizu/SanDisk/etc. take the idea and build a better device around it, with decent sound quality and other such futuristic ideas such as an FM radio.
wow! a touch interface with a white and black theme!
Apple so invented it! Actually touch screen didnt even exist before Apple! (Fact of life Stevie told me himself before peeing on my 3G )
Lol,best answer ever!
This part especially was the best : "and other such futuristic ideas such as an FM radio".
Why can't MY iPod have a custom, user-settable equalizer? :[
Perhaps Shugg can answer...
