Nokia Gold Arte 8800 says "gold is not enough"
You probably weren't expecting yet another luxury model of Nokia's long-lived 8800 fashionphone, right? Well, the company continues to prove its dedication to the crazily expensive slider with its newest model, the Gold Arte. This precious puppy is dipped in 18-carat gold and has white leather on the front and back -- just in case the gold wasn't enough to prove its owners are living on the edge of obnoxious ostentation. Other than its looks, you can expect the newest 8800 to be pretty much identical to its Carbon Arte predecessor, with 3G, 4GB of flash memory, an OLED display and a 3.2 megapixel camera. We don't know exactly when it's slated for release in Europe, but we expect it to carry a pretty "impressive" price tag.

hmm...Expensive Phone + Cigarette advertisements = "The Rich Smoke...(Insert Brand)" = Teenagers buying 'em!
The 8800 Arte is without question the most beautiful phone on this planet. Somebody please show me a phone that's as functional and sexy as the 8800 Arte.
hmmm how about the nokia 8600 luna? i had that, was an awesome phone.. smoke glass over the buttons looked so good, and they pulsate when the phone is in standby.
gold looks tacky, black is way better
iPhone
iPhone 3G. IT JUST IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no low rank is ever going to change that.
I have to agree. I also think the 8600 Luna is the best looking phone around. Ohohoh and samsung armani.
this thing looks like a closed-lid toilet with a tv in the tank.
The perfect phone for this economy. errr what?
It'll probably be around 1200€. Those things still keep some distance to Vertu. These 8800 are really nicely crafted, heavy phones. I especially like the titanium edition. Unfortunately, they still use Series 40 which just isn't enough if you are important (and especially if you want to have fun or do more with the phone than calling).
A decent Series 60 mobile phone with a good display would be some nice thing that could make me spend a four digit amount.
I can see that white leather becoming black leather quite quickly.
Extreme modding...
Replace that raggedy fake white leather with some High End Black Italian Leather...
I like your style.
And your Ferrari.
He's talking about sweat and stuff making the white leather dirty...
@Poom
I know this. There is also this thing called... Sarcasm. You might like it... You might not... The Future is now...
Thanks, I like my Ferrari too. Vroom Vroom.
And I love my spaceship. Pew Pew.
The leather looked good, imo, but the gold part was tacky.
*Waiting for post saying "The iPhone at $200 is cheaper and has a bigger screen"...*
"The iPhone at $200 is cheaper and has a bigger screen"...*
"The iPhone at $200 is cheaper and has a bigger screen"...*
I see what you did there Andy.
Really? It's really blurred...
Things like this make me think there is no recession, or if there is, the rich are just getting richer (probably from money were throwing at em to fix there mess) while the poor are getting poorer (because our money is being given to the rich), affecting everyone my behind.
lucky Europe getting all the ugly & expensive phones
(sarcasm)
"The iPhone at $200 is cheaper and has a bigger screen"...*
sure it is gold but will it wipe my butt for me?
I wouldn't trust anyone with that job. Unless I am unable to move, not crazy rich...
i just dont get this, surely this is for people that don't have real taste and have no idea on what to spend their money on *sigh*
I don't get it either. If you are earning the amount of money you need to afford that phone you'd surely find a smartphone more useful? Are there luxury blackberries?
@Celedhring
" If you are earning the amount of money you need to afford that phone you'd surely find a smartphone more useful?"
The phone looks more like it's designed for the 20 years younger wife of the guy who earns that amount of money.
This is designed as a fashion phone, so probably is used as a secondary phone and not much functionality. You know, rich business folks got their Blackberries as their primary business phone, and then use this baby when they need a sexy looking phone to take out for a night on the town.
please tell us more about how ignorant you are Ginger, it's fascinating
Hum! If this is Crockett's, wonder what phone Tubs would be packing?
I'm not too sure about the iPhone being $200 cheaper, when the 8800 Arte first came out we was selling it at £800 and I'm sure this would cost more.
I personally feel the original 8800 Sirocco was a much better phone in comparison to this ... too much expensive spinoff from similar design to the first 8800.
This phone is breaking a bit of the 8xxx series "sensible" luxury phone tag. I mean 8600 isn't any more expensive than N95 was at the start and Nokia have sold 15 million N95s. 8600 is metal, safire class slide and just superb build quality. I would personally take 8800 arte before any Vertu phone.
Thought 8xxx are pretty common in Germany so i guess it's not that unique, but i really do like the looks of 8800 variants and 8600.
Yeah, that white creaky plastic gives the real luxury feel indeed ;)
It's not plastic. It's the skin of a unicorn.
this'll go great with the gold house i'm buying for the son in law
ahhhhhhhhhhh.,finally the "iphonekiller"".,
LOL at comments that said "its too expensive" and "smartphones are more useful". I'm pretty sure you guys are the one who said, "why buy tag heuer/rolex/omega/bell&ross? A casio watch cost 1/15th and it got compass, barometer, stopwatch, worldtime and then some."
If you have to ask why, you cant afford it. It's a phone designed to work pimarily as a phone not an organizer, internet browser, mp3 player or even pocket porn player.
Oh that said, i'm typing this on an iphone. While i like the iphone to bits i'll picl the arte series in a heartbeat.
The Nokia 1100 is a good phone too
Its good to see they are re-hasing the design of my current phone:

Very creative Nokia.
Motorola AURA killer!

i love my 8600 luna better, with the steel and smoked glass
