Personally, we wouldn't want to be within 15 feet of a
Centro being mercilessly overclocked to a mind-numbing 936MHz, but we reckon that's where our fearless readers come into play. We're told that this sucker reached prompt criticality and melted into the Earth's crust shortly after this screen shot was taken, and you know what? We can't say we blame it.

The blue glow you see emanating behind the Centro is actually liquid nitrogen mixed with Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg - Ain't Nuthin But A G Thang.
It's the coolest mixture in the world; just don't step to it without your heater (lolz bad pun).

Yes, but this thing only has 64MB RAM.
Reminds me of when I had a PS2 Linux kit. It had 32MB of RAM, making it useless for just about anything. I spent two days compiling KDE, which took about 3 minutes to start up. I remember using an old SPARC station and being amazed at how fast it was.
Arkenklo @ Dec 27th 2008 6:47PM
@Karl: Well, obviously you overclock the ram to atleast 200 mb.

Chris @ Dec 24th 2008 10:20PM
Cause overclocking a DS just wasn't hardcore enough.
LC @ Dec 24th 2008 10:26PM
Funny you mention overclocking a DS, because the DS hasn't been overclocked. When you see anything that talks about Overclocking a DS, it just makes the game run at a faster speed not actually raise the frequency of either of the two ARM CPUs in the DS. It's just a speedhack, not overclocking.
gonintendo @ Dec 24th 2008 10:33PM
Actually, it is an overclock, but the ds games are synced to the clock speed, so overclocking a ds also speeds the game up.
Tim @ Dec 24th 2008 10:22PM
Hmm.... Drop it in a tub of non-conductive mineral oil so we can bump it to an ACTUAL 1000MHz. :)
Matthew C @ Dec 25th 2008 3:37AM
hate to burst your bubble there, but it still wouldn't be at a true gigahertz until it reached 1024 MHz. Unless of course you were just aiming for a thousand mega-hertz, in which case you're right on target.
Kimmo @ Dec 25th 2008 4:36AM
To Matthew C: Yeah, and one kilometers is so 1024 meters.
;)
Kimmo @ Dec 25th 2008 4:40AM
*kilometer
Dopefish @ Dec 25th 2008 4:51AM
Jeez this is a pain in the ass.
1024 is the computing Kilo, Mega, Giga etc, because its 2^10, 20 30 etc
1000 is the scientific Kilo, Mega, Giga, and the IEEE decided to cave to manufacturers who wanted to say Kilo at at 1000 so if freely used by computing product manufacturers.
It was all an attempt not to confuse the consumer.
See how unconfused everybody is now IEEE?!?!
Kimmo @ Dec 25th 2008 4:59AM
Yeah, but you do agree that Hertz (vibrations/calculations per second or whatever) are counted the 'scientific' way? Otherwise I'm going to be really confused :)
One GHz in computer science is the same as in other sciences, i.e. 1 000 000 000 Hz; so the OP is pretty much spot-on, right?
Romesh @ Dec 25th 2008 5:21AM
Kimmo is right, the SI prefixes Kilo, Mega, Giga etc. are all exact powers of 10, so 1000MHz = 1GHz because a computers clock speed is literally 'cycles per second' which follows SI units
However, file sizes are measured in base 2, hence 1024KB = 1MB etc. So to distinguish them from the SI units, Kibibyte, mebibyte, gibibyte etc. are used, because these represent powers of 2 rather than powers of 10
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibibyte
Arkenklo @ Dec 26th 2008 8:55AM
Geez, enough with all the writing!
Manhunt0r @ Dec 24th 2008 10:22PM
dunno what the big deal is tbh. three years ago i always overclocked my tungsten t3 to 640 mhz. and afaik you couldnt overclock the palms to death, in worst case scenario you would just do a hard reset.
pinchies @ Dec 25th 2008 4:35AM
This is probably a glitch in tcpmp... for a real benchmark i would want a benchmark program screenshot like "speedy"
My T3 would reset at 708mHz, and not because of heat.... 936mHz.... I'll believe it when I see it. Anyone up for a $5 bet? :D

But the question remains, even with that much power, does the palm platform still stink?
pheer6224 @ Dec 24th 2008 10:41PM
Yes, but not as much as winmo. My 680 will tide me over just fine until I can afford some android hardware.
Unless of course you're putting it down as usual, then you should really try actually using it, it helps to form a more... real opinion.
