Nokia's 5800 XpressMusic gets torture tested, succumbs to the pain
The same wild and wacky Russians that demolished a Motorola ZN5 are showing the same courtesy to Nokia's 5800 XpressMusic. The so-called Crash Test involves putting Nokia's first Comes With Music-enabled handset through a litany of horrible scenes, including a stay in the local freezer, a fall from grace, a ride in the washing machine, a dip in a freshly brewed beer and, of course, a crushing blow from a vehicle. The preview video is hosted up in the read link, and the full results of how it fared are promised in the near future. Let's just say we're betting the farm it doesn't handle unlimited downloads, calls nor texts very well (read: at all) after this hellish experience.

James @ Dec 27th 2008 10:33AM
I didn't state otherwise... all I stated was that I was first.

What would you do if you had all money in the world?
That's right, go bankrupt.
You still want money?

Bill @ Dec 27th 2008 11:42AM
I'm quite interesting in seeing how this torture-testing of the Nokia 5800XM turns out, since I'm considering buying one.
Shinigami @ Dec 27th 2008 2:15PM
... for tortures? Please buy it and send it to me instead, I'll torture it a little and send you the video as thanks.
Bill @ Dec 27th 2008 9:32PM
Why would I do that when these Russian guys are already doing it to one they bought? ;)
gentux @ Dec 27th 2008 11:47AM
But the question is? Will it blend?
Shinigami @ Dec 27th 2008 2:12PM
Anything blends, given the right blender.
Starvine @ Dec 27th 2008 12:10PM
I don't know about you, but the ability to survive an occasional plunge into a toilet or an across-the-room hurling by a vengeful ex is pretty much a requirement of my consumer electronics. Kudos to the Russians; someone should bring them on board for quality control.
L @ Dec 27th 2008 1:08PM
You actually continue holding something to your face that's been in your toilet?
STINK @ Dec 27th 2008 1:25PM
Your ex hurls things that fall into your toilet?
Fernando @ Dec 27th 2008 2:00PM
sounds kinky
bolezhinkov @ Dec 27th 2008 2:14PM
I feel the same way. I mean flimsy electronis are usually nice but I pretty much need tough-book-esque gadgets for them to last more than a month.
this year I lost two phones, an mp3 player, 4 sets of headphones, a guitar tuner, etc etc.
damn the fools who think people will be cautions with things they spend their money on.

Shinigami @ Dec 27th 2008 2:33PM
@bolezhinkov
maybe its easier for you to be more careful with gadgets rather than companies make all gadgets beer-proof?
kadajawi @ Dec 27th 2008 10:21PM
@bolezhinkov: Maybe the Sonim phones are better for you. I, for one, can take care of my gadgets. All my MP3 players still live, my cameras (although one did get sand into the lens... but I fixed it the russian way) live, my phones do too (and my newest is 5 years old). It's not that hard to be a bit careful.
Though I do admit that a small drop should pose no problem to any phone... that may happen, even if you are careful.
Patriks7 @ Dec 27th 2008 2:18PM
I bet iEye sent that in.. He's too young to buy beer legally, so he tried to mask it by killing the phone!
qpr @ Dec 27th 2008 4:10PM
"Nokia's first Comes With Music-enabled handset"s are actually the 5310 xpressmusic and n95 8gb, not at all the 5800 xm. The CWM version of 5800xm isn't even available yet.
Ian @ Dec 27th 2008 5:21PM
Who cares? It's still awesome.
Ian @ Dec 27th 2008 7:13PM
hey at lest they put in some good music
LK @ Dec 30th 2008 3:21PM
Definatley good tests to see happen... my old Samsung phone, and my Blackberry Pearl both sucumbed to falling outa my pocket int he winter and being imbedded in the ice on my driveway... BTW they both still work
Danielle Danica @ Jan 27th 2009 7:59PM
Oh wow. How could you do such torture to an awesome cellphone? hahaha
