LG plugs YouTube, CinemaNow into next year's Blu-ray players
Never satisfied with offering only a Blu-ray disc player (see 2007's BH100 Blu-ray + HD DVD combo and 2008's Netflix-streaming BD300), LG is upping the ante for '09, promising support for YouTube and CinemaNow videos on its next gen decks. Along with the now-standard Netflix, owners can browse CinemaNow pay-per-view offerings (or other stores powered by the service) and thumb through YouTube's catalog directly from the device. Unmentioned in the PR fluff is additional info like price and more detailed specs, but expect all to become (hopefully) clear January 7 in Las Vegas.

Hopefully they look amazing and have a decent price to go with all those nice features.
My dad currently owns a Sammy P1500 and loves it. I myself am waiting for the new Samsung players that are hopefully going to be announced at CES 2009. However I'm willing to give either Panasonic or LG my money if their next players are really great.

I guess BD players can't sell themselves, so they have to add all these extras.

haha i no rite?! liek derz dis 1 dat playz gamez 2!!! i fink itz called liek....a ps3 or summat liek dat.
Neil @ Dec 30th 2008 1:46PM
Dude....really? I guess thats why the iPhone does youtube, xbox 360 does netflix and the list could go on and on.
Lame post dude.

Honestly until the format gets below $100 you might as well buy a PS3. Especially when considering that Blu-Ray as a format has to connect to the internet at times and needs a HDD/Internet for some of it's features and copyright protection. The easiest way to make sure your player never becomes obsolete is going the gaming route...
Cody @ Dec 30th 2008 1:52PM
Or just get the player for your computer. The drives hover from $80 to $120. If you have an HDMI output you should be fine. That is assuming you keep your PC near your TV of course.
Platinum_Skeet @ Dec 30th 2008 1:58PM
@Cody
Or you can have your PC across the house and Media Center it across through a PS3 or 360.... Either way it goes the options are there...
staypuft13 @ Dec 30th 2008 1:49PM
Why would you buy a Blu-Ray player just to digitally stream movies? It's like buying a car that's powered by a treadmill.
TavisJohn @ Dec 30th 2008 1:57PM
You flubbed the analogy there..
No Buying a PS3 for Digital Streaming media is like buying a Semi Trailer to haul a dog bed.

My WinMo phone does YouTube also. Big Whoop!
The reality is that BD and the extinct HD-DVD both didn't garner the attention that original attention DVD did.
Average people just aren't adopting the technology until the prices are reasonable.
Neil @ Dec 30th 2008 2:42PM
Do some research next time man. BD has had better early adoption than DVD. Do you think DVD was this super hit it is today right at launch? Who knows if BD will ever match DVD....but at least lets stick to the facts, ok?
Sara @ Dec 30th 2008 1:54PM
Imagine that. This is starting to get VERY ridiculous.First it's a very slim LCD TV (less than 100 mm)And now I see YouTube on TV!!!!!*Faints*
VT Tony @ Dec 30th 2008 2:38PM
As far as YouTube goes, the quality can't be that great if played on an HDTV.
bandigolo @ Dec 30th 2008 3:24PM
doesn't YT have HD video now? That would prob look good enough, no?
Jughead @ Dec 30th 2008 2:44PM
how about another HD DVD hybrid again. The BH200 was good but lacked audio codecs and some features of blu-ray since they couldn't get things finalized so now that it is, lets see a BH400.
Cody @ Dec 30th 2008 2:56PM
Second post! Oh, wait...
cbunn @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:14AM
HULU! Give me Hulu! Seriously, if they made a player that did Netflix and Hulu, I'd grab that up.
