The latest piece of tech in the war on grandmas has gotta be Brother's Quattro 6000D sewing machine, a beastly machine with specs that will help even the most diligent granny patch up those quilts or ripped teddies more efficiently. Once you get past the huge 50 square inch workspace, you'll notice the 4.5 x 7-inch Sharp HD LCD display and embedded runway lighting. Brother's "InnovEye" and "Up-Close Viewer" technology places a camera right next to the needle to give the user a birds-eye view on the LCD to allow perfect placement before stitching. Advanced embroidery features and built-in tutorials should certainly mitigate any mishaps, and should you get the urge to plug every flash drive you own into it, there are 3 USB ports. From our perspective, it looks like the hardest part will be getting this monster home from the store and finding a place to store it -- and what to attack with embroidered flowers first. No word on price or release date yet, but there are a few more glamor shots after the break.

did someone say "Pie"?
Lamp @ Dec 30th 2008 11:19PM
its the stories like these that make me glad engadget reports what it does.
my life is better for having known about this gadget.
perhaps reporting on multiple sewing machines would be too much,
but how is this single story that big of an issue in your mind?
Mike10010100 @ Dec 31st 2008 12:36AM
Can Engadget ban gonintendo? He is spamming all of the stories.
BradS @ Dec 31st 2008 3:32PM
This is just begging to be modded into a home tattooing machine....

Californian @ Dec 30th 2008 10:43PM
I don't sew, although I once sewed a pillow, but this is still quite interesting to me as well!
Mario @ Dec 30th 2008 10:51PM

Now I can make my grandmother the Gears of War sweater I always wanted !
Joseph @ Dec 30th 2008 10:58PM
the Janome 11000 is much better IMO. The Janome MB-4 does 4 threads and cuts your jump-stitches.
finally my love of embroidery and gadgets has come together! yes!!!!
Bang @ Dec 31st 2008 2:28AM
Here here sister! As a fashion designer and lover of gadgetry, I would die (like Rachel Zoe DIE) to hands on this!
nikster @ Dec 31st 2008 3:10AM
If I had a top ten list of sentences I am most unlikely to ever write, this would be number one - but here it is: Embroidery just got interesting!!
I hate those flowers and shit, but embroidering a freakin' julia set on my t-shirt, jesus christ that's just too awesome.
Hackettman @ Dec 31st 2008 11:01AM

If only it came with Illustrator built in. Then it would have everything.
NHAnimator @ Dec 31st 2008 10:51AM
Finally, software comes to, er... software?
go seki @ Dec 30th 2008 10:21PM
Does it come with built in pr0n ?
Thunderbuck @ Dec 30th 2008 11:40PM
No, but it WILL embroider ANY image you want on ANY fabric you want. I'll leave it to your imagination where that could lead...

Massive failure.
B3astofthe3ast @ Dec 30th 2008 10:25PM
But can it stitch the crysis logo?
npChaos @ Dec 30th 2008 10:28PM
Only on medium settings with a very low stitch rate, and with the thread count set way down.
Loonie @ Dec 31st 2008 12:26AM
Crysis supports multithreading.
thatrotierkid @ Dec 31st 2008 8:39AM

Is anyone else curious as to why there is something resembling a mickey mouse logo at the bottom of the LCD?
No? Just me? OK, then...
Jon A. @ Dec 30th 2008 11:06PM
Do you not see the "Disney" category in the UI? I'm not sure how I feel about the blatant product placement Brother and the House that Mickey Built (unless it's Walt Disney Co.'s special machine).
David S @ Dec 30th 2008 11:21PM
The Quattro™ 6000D features a generous assortment of Asian, European, Vintage, initial and other unique patterns including 160 designs featuring Disney/Pixar characters.

part of me wants to win the lottery to buy this for my mom, shes a huge sewing fanatic, the other part of me realizes that this would confuse the hell out of her and she would never use it.
htd @ Dec 30th 2008 10:39PM
how much is this thing?
http://www.brother-usa.com/Homesewing/Quattro/specialoffers.aspx
it looks like it comes with over $900 worth of free stuff... so it's way over that...
Jeremy K. @ Dec 30th 2008 11:23PM
It'll be probably over $5000, considering the previous version Duetta 4500D retails for that amount.
KRIS_C_123 @ Dec 30th 2008 10:43PM
my dresses are going to look FAAAB-U-LOUSS!!!
fred @ Dec 30th 2008 10:44PM
But where's the love?
A well made blanket by my grandmother just feels different then one that was made by SewOS v1.3.45 rev3.
Eric @ Dec 31st 2008 4:29PM
don't be dumb. my robot friend can show my mechanical heart more love than any of my human friends (that is, if i had any human friends).
Bosco @ Dec 30th 2008 10:44PM
My Mom just got the Baby Lock version of this bad boy (the Ellisimo) and it is reportedly (her reporting) super amazing. There was some reason why she preferred the Baby Lock version besides positive experience with the brand, but I can't remember. Expect to drop a little over 6 Large on this system. If you're in the San Diego area, Sewing Machines Plus in San Marcos is the place to get it. Talk to Ron the owner. And ask for a tour of his new store. It's amazing too!
My Mom has been most impressed so far by the edge stitching capability (think the stitches around button holes). It has a larger embroidery area than the Ellegante (which she had). The thread loading is more proven technology than the Ellegante. She had recurring problems with the Ellegante's threader and doesn't anticipate having any such problems with the Ellisimo.
If you want to know more, get your own :-).
Marty @ Dec 31st 2008 6:57AM
Sound like "your mom" is a closet sewing fanatic, bra. That's a pretty detailed secondhand report :)

I thought this was a CNC sewing machine. Which actually would be a neat idea...
hiroo @ Dec 30th 2008 11:17PM
Isn't this exactly a CNC sewing machine? The next MacBook (with flexible display) will be sewn out of cloth using this machine!
mrbob1000 @ Dec 31st 2008 9:42AM
pfft, my mums bernena can do better embroidery than that!
