Wireless USB / USB 3.0 exhibitors to be out in full force at CES
So here's an interesting one. The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) will be pumping up two standards at CES 2009: one with great potential for the future, one that'll be lucky to survive the rest of this decade. Despite setbacks for Wireless USB, the USB TechZone will be showcasing the latest and greatest in cordless USB, though we suspect we'll be spending most of our time checking out the progress on SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0). Hit the read link if you're interested in seeing what involved firms will be taking part, and keep it locked right here for live coverage as the mayhem unfolds in early January.

warning...high speed USB 3.0 device plugged into non-high speed USB 2.0 port - you may experience difficulty configuring your new hardware.,,

@Flashpoint
That was funny the first time, now you're just embarrassing yourself.

all it needs is a cape

When will all mainstream PC be sold with it?

I'd really like to see Wireless USB succeed. In theory, there's no reason it shouldn't. It's as fast as USB2.0 inside 3m, just without the cables. That's great for wireless mice and keyboards (without the bluetooth pairing hassle), external drives on desktops without the clutter on your desk, wireless speakers...etc. I can't think of a reason it's not being adopted.

I'd assume because it still requires some sort of pairing (otherwise how would the keyboard/mouse work with just my workstation and not the guy sitting next to me at work). And because it does require pairing, bluetooth already has that covered. It may not be fast, but you really don't need hi-speed for these type of devices. The next bluetooth revision will also be capable of performing at USB2 speeds.

I'd like to see lots of options succeed, but if you're implying WUSB success *over* 3.0, I sure hope not. WUSB is too slow, requires batteries (wasteful, polluting, continually eliciting messages...) and in my opinion (YMMV), is utterly unneeded / useless for devices like mice and keyboards (we've had one wireless set-up in our 5 home computer network, but never again).

Same reason Bluetooth ,though being sold through technologies such as gaming controllers and cell phone headsets, isn't more successful. Wireless of any form is prone to fail while direct connection has near perfect dependability (with the exception of signal degradation). Interference, range, battery limitations, the factors stack up so high it's a wonder how bluetooth has even come this far.

It's easier to see in the full logo.

lol, good work sir.

I don't think WUSB will be a succesor.. Because there is alredy bluetooth and WIFI.
Maybe if it's faster than bluetooth and uses less power than WIFI.. :)

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

What's with the retro 1970's logo?
I thought USB3 is a new standard.
