Motorola hastens layoff plans, axes 400 earlier than anticipated

The words "job security" and "Motorola" haven't coexisted in a non-sarcastic manner for quite some time, and things just seem to be deteriorating by the day. Not even two full months after the flagging company announced that 3,000 employees would be sent packing, a new Reuters report has it that the axing process in Q4 will be accelerated. Specifically, some 1,900 (versus 1,500 as originally predicted) will be cut in an attempt to save $800 million in 2009, though there's no word on how damaging the inevitable productivity losses will be given the markedly low morale. To no one's surprise, most of the Q4 cuts will be in the mobile devices segment; we're beginning to think Sad Moto Face™ here will never, ever vanish.[Via UnwiredView]
Motorola needs to fire its executives, and hire me. when was the last time they came out with a killer device, except for the razor.

If you can wait another 6 months or so, you could probably buy the whole company and do what you want with it... ;-)
Is the "sad moto" really tradmarked? That starts a whole new dialogue.
you are probably right, seriously, what's this company thinking? What's wrong with their engineers and designers? Motorola Krave? verizon probably sold 50,000 units in total.
A plastic cover that let you do the touch when closed? I mean it's nice technology and all, but it's not used wisely.
The executives are bring the company to the ground at this growth rate.
The only way their mobile division will succeed in producing another innovative phone (*scoff* RAZR) is to follow the same development strat they had before ~ keep the execs out of the development. Hopefully the second time around, if they do do that, they'll do something about their steaming crap on a stick OS/interface/usability. Motorola has the worst user interface ever.
