Leaked G1 firmware lets you revert to RC29
Did you accidentally flip the switch on that OTA update to RC30 on your G1 and currently find yourself stuck with a non-root lifestyle? Well thanks to forum member chavonbravo over at xda-developers, things are about to get awesome for you. You can now revert back to RC29 with ease by snagging the uploaded image, renaming, copying to your microSD card, and running through standard procedure for re-flashing the phone. We can attest that the hack does indeed work, so feel free to proceed. Word to the wise, though: getting up to a modded RC30 isn't as easy as some might have you believe, so set aside a little time to walk through the steps (check out ModMyGPhone's guide page for clear instructions).

o well..another iphone/ andriod fever
Jinto @ Jan 1st 2009 11:13PM
Two very different things. Even with me owning an jailbroken and unlocked iPhone, I think android fans are more level headed. Linux does that to a person. Apple swells heads.
KarlW @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:04AM
Why do people always mention the devices they own in a post like that?
Owning an iPhone doesn't give you an excuse to flame and sweepingly insult everybody who has bought an Apple product. You're still a retard. It's like saying "I have a PS3, but Sony products turn you in to a pedophile".
Jinto @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:12AM
Easy. Point of reference. Besides, generalizing is fun.
Thanks for calling me a retard. It made my day. I'll just ignore the fact that you are assuming that I'm a retard from one post. Why, I won't assume that you are close minded or stupid just from your one post. I'll just assume that you are rude to people you've 'met' only once.
tha-don @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:31AM
just wanted to chime in to say that i too enjoy generalizing...and we have similar avatars, so that's cool too.
Jinto @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:31AM
Haha, I can fly higher and faster!
But you can fly lower and kill before being seen, if at all ^^

Jinto- most android fans are always like: "android is the best. I need something open, I just can't imagine all of the possibilities of what can happen!". Levelheaded i think not. Its been a couple months now and things havnt popped off like most android people thought, and all i have to say is that android has until devs can start charging for apps to see if it is really gonna go anywhere. most iphone owners are already like "look what my Phone can do". Swollen maybe, but people using android are pretty swollen headed themselves because of the "possibilities" of it all. I want results first, and the iPhone has given it already. alot of people are waiting for android.
chefgon_ign @ Jan 2nd 2009 9:10AM
@civilian
iPhone was out for an entire year before it did anything even remotely interesting. For its first twelve months of life, it was a feature phone with a touchscreen iPod built in. Android is doing a hell of a lot better right now then the iPhone was at two months.
Though in general I agree with the statement that right now, here in January 09, the iPhone has better software than Android does. Many (though certainly not all) of Android's best apps are iPhone ports. But considering the paid apps are still being withheld, things might change significantly in the next 90 days. We just have to wait and see.
Jinto @ Jan 2nd 2009 10:16AM
Guess I was being optimistic with the idea that Linux was in there somewhere. Thought that might add the the level headdedness.
civilian @ Jan 2nd 2009 4:03PM
@chefgon_ign,
androids os should be doing better then the iphone, being that it has had all this time to look at the iphone software and see what works and what doesn't. Comparing the young and the old can be kind of touchy because if the iphone software never came out, android could have been looking a hell of a lot different. Two months back then was alot different then two months now. Google has had time to see how things played out with the iphone. Thats good that google keeps putting out updates for android, because i really want it to succeed.
and @jinto, i dont get your comment.
Kris120890 @ Jan 1st 2009 10:36PM
What is wrong with RC30?
Jinto @ Jan 1st 2009 11:13PM
...

thepenguin @ Jan 1st 2009 10:40PM

how about some coverage that android 1.0 is running on the HTC Kaiser?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3096575&postcount=1789
Chris @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:35AM
Running? For how long before it crashes? And its not even usable. No touch screen interface and no ability to make calls means it still needs work. I would love to have it running (and working with no problems) on my Kaiser.
David @ Jan 1st 2009 10:58PM
I have a G1 and I have no clue what the hell this post was talking about. What exactly does reverting back to RC29 allow?
Benson @ Jan 1st 2009 11:03PM
RC30 blocked root access:

David @ Jan 1st 2009 11:06PM
Thanks.
Vinith @ Jan 1st 2009 11:12PM
Awesome! This is huge for the g1 community.
Todd @ Jan 1st 2009 11:24PM
root I haz it beck again
KarlW @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:06AM
Don't play Beck again. Prolonged exposure can lead to insanity, loss of memory, and in some cases, death.
Arkenklo @ Jan 2nd 2009 4:21AM
Yeah, but only if you're part of the actual movie. Watching it is cool.
aberakkrombie @ Jan 1st 2009 11:58PM
i have the dev phone and then i installed the R30 update, which was said to be the most recent, including update for the auto screen rotate feature so i wouldnt have to use the droidsans tools, however, the update was bad and then i factory reset the dev phone, now i have the T1 Android running. Does this mean the developer and license features are removed?
Shugg @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:01AM
yes rc30,so does this that I can dock my android phone to iPod dock,,?? Yes finally,.
Arkenklo @ Jan 2nd 2009 4:20AM
How can Android be leaked, isn't it all open-source? Have I missed something?
Uejji @ Jan 2nd 2009 8:37AM
What's been leaked is the T-Mobile signed version of RC29. The T-Mobile signed firmware in the G1 will only accept T-Mobile signed firmware for an update like this. The dev phone has no such restrictions; nor do any of these custom Android jobs on the net.
mary @ Jan 3rd 2009 1:11PM
just don't get why anyone would use the word retard here. i didn't think this forum was for third graders.
