Digital Foci introduces 160GB Picture Porter 35 photo manager
Digital Foci has been cluttering up the market with ho hum digiframes for years now, but it's finally pumping out a respectable photo manager in the Picture Porter 35. The above pictured device comes with a 160GB internal hard drive, a 3.5-inch LCD monitor, a multi-format card reader and a promise of being able to transfer 1GB of data in around 120 seconds. Users can also tap into the USB-host functionality in order to connect an external HDD for data access, and there's also a built-in speaker, audio recorder (with an integrated mic) and audio / video outputs. No mention of a price, but it should be on display for the world to see at CES next week.

Finally, an iPhone killer!
Dracorius @ Jan 3rd 2009 10:04AM
It's not even a phone, how can this be an IPhone killer?
Either you didn't even read the post, or you're being sarcastic in the most stupid way known to mankind...
Cheerz

he made me laugh, so regardless of his motives he accomplished something

PaulChapel is an equal-opportunity douchebag.
Still a douchebag though. Some prepubescent, pimple faced ginger retard. Just loves to troll. Trashing whatever he can.
Whats with the spastic, I-just-had-a-seizure, speaker holes?
KilgoreTrout @ Jan 3rd 2009 10:03AM
Can't bloody wait!

God damn it, this design is awful. I mean, just look at the bulkiness of it. Look at the screen real estate (for something that was made to view pictures on). And look at those speaker holes. What the hell is that? Are they arranged in the shape of the Japanese symbol for "Ugly piece of junk"?
Maxwell @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:19PM
I actually kinda like the speaker holes.

Hey, it's got support for RAW with zoom. As a DSLR user, I'd buy it if the price was reasonable.
Dracorius @ Jan 3rd 2009 11:32AM
The only problem with this is that it will only extract the jpeg tumbnail from the raw file. So, yeah you can zoom and pan around the picture, but in terms of sharpness, it won't be any better than the preview on your DSLR screen.
So you unfortunately still can't check the focus or sharpness of the final picture with this...

I don't understand how this thing could be useful, i can look at pictures on a PC or on my phone.
Salsa Shark @ Jan 3rd 2009 11:49AM
Good luck carrying your PC with you on vacation. And a laptop is considerably larger than this.
And does your phone read SDHC or Compact Flash?
All that said, this device is considerably less useful after Drac pointed out that it doesn't >really< support RAW images. Might as well just get their photo storage device and save a few bucks.
G @ Jan 3rd 2009 1:44PM
I can still take my phone with me on vacation. And guess what, not only does it display pictures, it can also take them. And it reads MicroSDHC cards.
futurepastnow @ Jan 3rd 2009 2:19PM
A photographer in the field could carry this instead of a laptop. If it really works as a USB host controller, you should be able to connect any mass-storage camera to it and copy the files over.
CrackedButter @ Jan 3rd 2009 11:45AM
I would buy this instead of bringing my laptop with me. I like the audio recording function, another device I don't need to bring with me either.
Salsa Shark @ Jan 3rd 2009 11:47AM
Ohhhhh those sneaky bastards!
I take it all back while I shake my fist at their slimy marketing.
Bad Beaver @ Jan 3rd 2009 2:50PM
Depending on price and battery-life, this might be just another nice alternative to a pile of cards in your pocket.
