Washing machine hacked to tweet when the load's done: @maytag, you listening?
We're truthfully not sure what's cooler: the fact that the above pictured washing machine tweets when it's done, or the fact that the above pictured washing machine still works. We're guessing that the geeks in the crowd would argue that it's clearly the former, and for those interested in a little proof / explanation, you can head on past the break for a video demonstration. But just so you know, it's highly unlikely that your Twittering washer will have any diehard followers.

His washing machine tweets AND listens to music!
I found the real one: http://twitter.com/pimpy3wash
the next step is getting a girlfriend or wife to tweet when they are done cooking. or vice versa for the ladies.
hey, I have the same washing machine at home!
That thing didn't twitter it just flashed a message on a screen!
It looks like twitter to me.
Check the twitter page that is displayed on the video...
Nice idea - For years our washing machine and dryer were hooked into the Home Automation system and would speak via text to speech that the washer or dryer was done and would remind until reset for the dryer. Was very handy - replaced the units last year and I've never hacked into the new ones, think I'll have to add Tweeting as well.

Not really new, some of the new buildings in New York have laundry machines with that feature. You can get text messages or an email when your laundry's done.
DUMB!
*Yawn* Mine just beeps loudly when it's done. Call me when someone invents a washer that DRIES your clothes when you're done. Why do we need two machines? It makes no sense, just repurpose the washer.
Ring, ring, ring.
It's been done. Do a quick search for "washer dryer combo". LG makes a few. You can find several via NextTag.
This is very useful for college students and for those who do not have their washing machine where they can hear it beep. Also when you go out to run a quick errand.
I have had to deal with mildew clothes a few times and ended up washing them again.
PIA
At Tulane U we have had this for awhile. We use laundryview.com so I don't usually sign up for the texting stuff, but it is an option. It's great for college students as I tend to forget about it when the washing machine is not in my apartment.
Hey guys, some of us have washing machines that DON'T beep when they're done! So this would be awesome.
haha that is the exact Maytag washer dryer combo that we had in my house in the 80's
My girlfriend purrrrrrrrrrrs when she's done. Should I tweet that?
Washing machine that peep or something similar have been available here in Japan for, like, forever.
Hi Ryan Rose (and everyone at YouTube, Make and Engadget)
My name is Brian Snyder, and I work at Whirlpool Corporation where we make Maytag appliances. I’m excited to see that you’re still getting use out of what looks like a 25 year-old Model A210.
We’re always looking for new ways to connect our appliances with the Internet. While we haven’t used Twitter yet, in 2006 we partnered with the Connected Home Research Council to pilot a feature called “Laundry Time” that sent text messages about the laundry's progress to a computer, TV and/or cell phone. There’s more information about what we’re doing with connected appliances at: http://www.caba.org/connectedhome - and keep an eye out for us at CES as well.
We’re always listening @WhirlpoolCorp, so please drop us a line! And, of course, we’ll be following the excitement of @PiMPY3WASH.
Thanks,
Brian (@bsniz)
