They mean it's a fake but still don't realise you can get red/pink/green/blue/orange/purple iPhone cover for $10 off chinese eBayers. It's complicated to install but available nonetheless.
You can tell what happened here, they thought the Apple font was Helvetica and then remembered Arial is a blatent cheap rip-off of Helvetica — that's why they used it.
How can the iPhone look bad, it's so simple? It's like saying rounded rectangles are ugly, no their not, they're the most beautiful things in the world.
Oddly enough, those case replacements DO use Ludica Grande/Myriad (Pro) or whatever font face that looks closer to the corporate Apple Font. Not a bad find, but I can't imagine these aftermarket housing replacements are all that great.
You just need to look around the logo to tell that it was a forgery. Not only is part of the logo out of focus - intentionally blurred - but the edges show clear attempts to manipulate it, photoshop-like.
Win for you. Nary a day without an iPhone or Apple article. Much love to Cupertino, but Engadget needs less biased reporting. No one would give a shit if someone spray painted their Acer desktop red.
Neither of those iPhones on the read link are iPhones. People who own one can see that clearly. I compared my black one to the one on the pic, mine looked much thinner. Why didn't they show the front? Because it doesn't look like a real one...
it's a faker, usually on the back, there always going to be an IMEI and Serial number on the bottom and I don't see it on that one. Love the badass color though
I don't care if this plastic back comes direcetly from apple or not... i mean cmon that is prolly the most cheapest and insignificant part of the phone aside from the show factor...i would def shell out the money for this bad boy. best fake ive ever seen. i mean how fake can u call the phone when everything on it is genuine execept for the back....psh, go figure.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"

"Apple's corporate font isn't Arial, if you catch our drift."
No...?
They mean it's a fake but still don't realise you can get red/pink/green/blue/orange/purple iPhone cover for $10 off chinese eBayers. It's complicated to install but available nonetheless.
fake. he means it's a fake.
'iPhone' is in the font Arial. Apple's latest corporate font is Myriad, I believe.
I believe it is actually Myriad Pro.
It's Myriad Apple.
You can tell what happened here, they thought the Apple font was Helvetica and then remembered Arial is a blatent cheap rip-off of Helvetica — that's why they used it.
"Yeah, we would know"
Oh, Engadget, boy could I use a picture of an iPhone to wack off to right about now. WOW THANKS!
/SARCASM
Ah, I get it now :)
Don't quite see why I was low-ranked though :|
Myriad Pro Semibold i think
looks like helvetica to me...
(i mean the font in the image)
It's a mApple.
Not the 3G iPhone... at least not the American ones.
Is the pixelations around the Apple logo an effect of Jpeg-izing the image or a bad photochop?
ARE*
Jpeg compression has a really tough time reproducing colors (especially red, as you can see here.)
Here it is http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Housse-Coque-Facade-Cover-ARRIERE-pour-3G-iPhone-8-16GO_W0QQitemZ220334350782QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFR_JG_Téléphonie_Accessoires_Mobiles?hash=item220334350782&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1301|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318
I want my cover with a pineapple on the back!
Surely the fact that there's no IMEI or serial number on the back is more of a give away
@ fuzzycat
The real iPhone cover doesn't have the IMEI or serial number on the back.
@BuddyBoy
Eh? Mine does!
Not the 3G iPhone... at least not the American ones.
Gross....they...they found a way to make the iPhone WORSE...I didn't think that was possible...
If you think the Iphone is terrible I can't imagine what turd you think is a good cell phone. My guess is a G1 fanboy.
DFTT... Don't say you weren't warned.
He's a Microsoft fanboy who just gets kicks out of bashing apple
Raise money for Aids research. Yeah .... much worse.
@ Mac-Boy
just like how you get a kick out of bashing Microsoft and bragging about how superior you are.
:)
How can the iPhone look bad, it's so simple? It's like saying rounded rectangles are ugly, no their not, they're the most beautiful things in the world.
Don't get me started on the ugly as sin Rhombus.
OMG THEY'RE not their. FLAMEBAIT
been there, debunked this, no?
http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/02/mysterious-pink-iphone-3g-hits-ebay-cue-onslaught-of-rumors/
Whoosh!!!!
My mystic balls predict tomorrow — Blue iPhone not real?
Wait, what?
colorwarepc.com?
Have you even seen a colorware iPhone before?
no, hence the "?"
http://www.colorwarepc.com/p-161-iphone-3g.aspx
you're all dumb
So... Unicorns aren't real? :(
I too cried... :(
Should've gone with Wingdings.
do you really think Apple would release a red iphone that wasn't a part of product (red)?
Least interesting, informative, relevant article ever?
It's a debunk. Lots of sites today are passing this off as a viable spy shot of a red iPhone to be announced at Macworld this week.
ahh, my mistake... This is the only site I go to for gadget info so this was the first I had heard about it.
iPhone Air? Should this be in Keepin' it real fake section?
my girlfriend would rather like a red nokia e71.

you dont have a girlfriend
lol engadget [b]would[/b] know.....
Nice BB code...
Found yoooooou...
http://www.ecaseshop.com/full-housing-replacement-for-iphone-3g-16gb-red.html
Yeah, I found this when they reported the pink iPhone. Already bought a gold for myself and a red one for a friend. :)
Oddly enough, those case replacements DO use Ludica Grande/Myriad (Pro) or whatever font face that looks closer to the corporate Apple Font. Not a bad find, but I can't imagine these aftermarket housing replacements are all that great.
Who gives a shit about a new iphone color?! POST IMPORTANT NEWS PLEASE
You just need to look around the logo to tell that it was a forgery. Not only is part of the logo out of focus - intentionally blurred - but the edges show clear attempts to manipulate it, photoshop-like.
Here's an article about the new red iPhone.
Actually, there isn't a red iPhone.
But lets all have a look at an iPhone.
Did we mention the iPhone?
Win for you. Nary a day without an iPhone or Apple article. Much love to Cupertino, but Engadget needs less biased reporting. No one would give a shit if someone spray painted their Acer desktop red.
ahahahahahaha, pwned.
Lucida Grande this thing ain't, but it sure would fly into girls' hands in red.
Neither of those iPhones on the read link are iPhones. People who own one can see that clearly. I compared my black one to the one on the pic, mine looked much thinner. Why didn't they show the front? Because it doesn't look like a real one...
Miserable...
Nice title!
it's a faker, usually on the back, there always going to be an IMEI and Serial number on the bottom and I don't see it on that one.
Love the badass color though
AHAHAHAH - ARIAL.... Nice try goon.... Wish the (RED) edition were real...
I don't care if this plastic back comes direcetly from apple or not... i mean cmon that is prolly the most cheapest and insignificant part of the phone aside from the show factor...i would def shell out the money for this bad boy. best fake ive ever seen. i mean how fake can u call the phone when everything on it is genuine execept for the back....psh, go figure.
it doesnt have a serial # on it either, so, it was easy to tell it was fake
