Samsung to launch 1.5-inch thin Blu-ray player at CES
We don't have any hard details yet, but word on the street is that Samsung is planning on pairing up its 6.5mm (.2-inch) thick LCD HDTV with an equally svelte Blu-ray deck just 39mm (1.5 inches) thick. We'll find out more during Wednesday's press event, we're sure -- any bets on whether "thin BD players" will be this year's "thin displays?"

How about an affordable player first?
beat me to it!
I dunno, the players can be found for $150-200 at this point, I think if anything the movies need to come down. Lower cost media would sell more players than cheap barely functional players would in my opinion. I buy most of my movies as BR at this point, but would buy significantly more if the costs were lowered.
And why should that be first? You don't understand how companies work. They can do more than one thing at once you know. A few teams focusing on improving the technology and a few focused on making the tech affordable. Companies are obviously working on making bluray affordable, you can get a sony bluray player for under $200, not even on sale or anything. Compared to a half a year ago, that's pretty darn cheap.
Surely thinner displays and boxes results in less resources used making them proportionally cheaper right?
I hope not. I'd rather have cheap blu ray players.
this looks so cool.
/sarcasm
this looks cool.
Great. Now if they could just figure out a way to make my old-school BD-P1500 "thickplayer" play Futurama: Bender's Game...
My 1500 plays Bender's Game just fine. I've watched it a few times actually.
Companies are funny.
They slim the products down but the prices remain high with the notion that
is new technology lol.
I just love how transparent they are but yet somehow feel like what their giving you is awesome!!.
Like one of our smart engadget readers above said.
CHEAPER PLAYERS FIRST. KUDOS TO YOU.
They should work on load times before anything else.
My bdp350 takes ages to load, longer than my PS3 (but it's a bit better quality wise)
Yeah but lets be honest, many of the Sony, well actually all of the Sony ones have seen have been huge boxes that look like VCR's from the 80's, just my 2 cents worth.
It is not the size, it is what you do with it.
wonder if this one will have netflix too...
