A mere day before the big shindig at the Moscone, Steve Jobs has come clean about his
much-discussed weight loss in a open letter to the Apple community, saying that a hormone imbalance is to blame. "The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I've already begun treatment," says Steve. Doctors expect it to take him until late Spring to regain the weight and body mass, and Steve will stay on as CEO during his recovery. Oh, and if you hadn't guessed, Steve isn't so big on the personal stuff: "So now I've said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this."

As for telling more than he wanted; he's the figurehead of the company and can't be surprised when people (especially shareholders) want to know the status of his health, privacy or not.
This is all to allow MacWorld to not be a Steve Jobs rumor mill.
We have been speculating for months about a relapse and the stock reacted a few months ago to the rumors.
Not a word about his health.
Then he is not making the keynote address.
Not a word about his health.
Now just before MacWorld - they solved the problem!!
It's all PR - it could be a hormone imbalance, or it could not.
But that is the face they are willing to show before MacWorld.
I hope he is getting better, but I have never seen a corporate message that was not serving a corporate purpose.
As a primary PC user, I have much respect for Steve and Apple. Good luck Steve. I'll say a prayer for you. Thanks for being a true pioneer and pushing the industry forward. Hope your health gets better so that you can get back to doing your thing.

diabetes made me lose 30 pounds when I got it too. Then I regained the weight. And yes, I would imagine pancreatic cancer would give you diabetes as your pancreas' beta islet cells are what create insulin. I'll bet Jobs did the stem cell treatment as he can afford it.

Nice to know that Steve Jobs is on his way to a full recovery. I was at a recent Pixar dinner function with Steve, and yes, he is considerably thinner, however, remains active as usual, and very much engaged as always. We should all focus on appreciating the tremendous innovations he and his team continue to bring forward and let him lead his personal life without intrusion. I wish him a speedy and full recovery.

Steve probably has a neuroendocrine tumor involving his pancreas ... and is suffering from what is called a "carcinoid syndrome." This can involve weight loss. and includes an oversecretion of the hormone serotonin and the usual treatment is with a drug called sandostatin. Take a look at www.carcinoid.org for an almost infinite amount of information on what Steve is not telling you he has. This condition is not curable, but treatment of various kinds, as the disease progresses, can keep it in check for years in some instances.

If he has see Pancreatic Cancer he should see the best DR for that...Dr. Rob Fine at Columbia Presbyterian. He sees all the VIP's from all over the world and has some great treatments and trials.
Typical bay area technological brat, sucked into the big money and married to it. I worked in that
rat race, it kills a person, I am so ill and skinny now because of it. It is lightening speed fast and
takes the life right out of you. He will not quit because he cannot lose the fight of being Mr. Apple!
Mr. Power. I know big mucky mucks in the bay area that cannot stop, one in particular will not mention
name however, barely eats, barely sleeps just to gain more power he works 22 hours a day and is miserable
for what? Take a vaca and get well. But they can't are terribly sucked into all the fame, glory and money.
My old boss at Intel, went haywire and was on massive meds to calm him down.... other people
at work fell asleep in their chairs... till morning. I knew of 2 women who died from heart attacks at 34 & 35 years
old, yes folks and they were declared healthy prior. Hmmm makes you want to quit your job now huh? I did! And I am still
not well....gee maybe I can get residual back pay for all the crap & torture I went through.
How sad. He is really ill and it may be a slow death for him, but it will get him. I have been off work for
1.5 years and am still extremely sick. My body is still in energy overdrive it cannot slow down, all the
tech jobs I had and horrible people that harassed me at these jobs, "faster faster, work faster".... blah F in
blah.... he is trying to cover up that he is sooooo sick..the tech world is never happy with results or people
it is more messed up than the entertainment business.Trust me on that one. I know I lived it and it was the most awful time of my life.
If I never return to the horrible silicon valley again, I am totally ok with that. Yuck. The devil runs the bay area period!

that is how the technology world is. You are not allowed to be human in that world, if you die at work, they just cover it up to protect
their stock, just like Intel does. It is so sad. No one cares about anyone, they care about isolation on their computer and creating
more, more better, and better. If you want a job at Google, be careful, you need a PH.D to get a entry level position. Every company
is like that down there. It makes me so sad, no more family gatherings at the park, we all have to meet at fancy restaurants and show

my husband was diagonised with pancreatic cancer in 1998. he was 46 yrs old at the time. he was given less than 6 months to live. he had a whipple procedure where most of his pancreas was removed. a week after his surgery we learned tht he had a rare type of pancreatic cancer and that he probably would not die---- and he didn't. but he does have some medical issues---he is a diabetic and has problems with his body absorbing fat. there's been a few times where he's lost weight and looked like steven jobs looks now. but the treatment has been simple nutritonal guidelines to follow. my husband goes to duke hospital in durham north carolina once a year for a complete check up. we do not know of anyone else but steve jobs who's had this type of pancreatic cancer. my husband would love to talk to steve jobs !! they are both miracle men!!!
Hyperthyroidism also causes weight loss. It is an overactive thyroid, which is overactive metabolism.
my father died of pancreatic cancer after 3 months he was 83. the first sign was a diagnosis of diabetes which we found out was the first sign of a problem with the pancreas which controls many things. not many people survive this disease. maybe he does have problems relating to it, maybe he it has returned. but it does cause insulin problems and weight loss.

Mr. Jobs will recover just fine....I would suggest a 3 times daily intake of Lindberg Whey protein shake...... along with well balanced small portioned meals 5 times a day as well as antioxidants and a daily intake of Vitamins and minerals....and some bee pollen to boost his immune system and kick it into overdrive!.....A 3 days a week exercise plan will also be of great benefit to him.....

As a regular woo-un-kah and a qualified medical practitioner, I find your advice quite constructive but not so effective, since the 桂枝 is noticeably absent in your prescription, and 熟地, 山药, 山茱萸, 泽泻, 丹皮, 茯苓 are to be added to strengthen the Chi of the kidneys (which is Yin). Additional cardios & intensive squat exercises can be performed to resurrect the Chi of the heart (which is Yang). I would also like to remind you that in this case, 桂枝 & 附子 goes together, and both should not be present unless the patient was diagnosed with insufficient Yang.
