D-Link introduces 7-inch USB-powered SideStage monitor
D-Link, the company best known for its workings in the networking space, is suddenly branching out into new territories. Taking a pretty noticeable cue from Nanovision, D-Link is debuting a secondary display today in Las Vegas. The 7-inch SideStage, which rocks a 800 x 480 resolution and can be used in either landscape or portrait mode, weighs just 1.34-pounds and gets all the juice it needs from a powered USB 2.0 socket. Regrettably, the outfit failed to disclose a price or release date, simply saying it would be on display at CES. Why the tease, D-Link?

Keep it under $99, and it will sell like hot pancakes .... (not that pancakes are that popular anyways...)
J @ Jan 6th 2009 2:05PM
Hotcakes?
TIMMAH! @ Jan 6th 2009 4:24PM
What if I want waffles? Seriously though, $99 would be a sweet point.

Would like to see a touch version of this. Would be perfect addition to
a HTPC.

its 7".. go on ebay and do it yourself

I think the poster was referring to the fact that it only needs one wire; I haven't seen a 7" usb-powered touch display but I would buy like seventy of them (and later find uses for them) if one were released :P

Hmmm... touch... yes... definitely want that...
I wonder if this would work well with one of those wireless USB deals. Have remote access to your computer, or something?
I could see firing up my cookbook program on my computer, and use this to view the recipe in the kitchen, wireless over USB. :-)
Ah... to dream. ;-)

+1 for the added touch capability

Looks almost exactly like the Mimo series from http://www.thegadgeteers.com
KilgoreTrout @ Jan 6th 2009 3:04PM
I hardly need another monitor but make it touch screen and I will probably buy more than one of these.
Actually , even if is not touch screen and if can easily make one myself, I bet that I will end up buying one anyway; I don't know why I'm such a sucker for this kind of stuff.
ASFx @ Jan 8th 2009 6:41PM
You actually can get a touch screen version here:
http://www.thegadgeteers.com/
KilgoreTrout @ Jan 8th 2009 8:35PM
Thanx ASFx, great link, they're out of stock atm but the price is OK.
It really looks like Linksys just rebrands these mimo monitors and I bet they will try to sell them to an higher price.
I am surprised that Cisco Sys. do this kind of things, I would have thought that at least they would get an exclusive for the product that they wanted to commercialise with their name , or maybe even buy the company that makes it.
Actually I'm not just surprised, I'm disappointed too.

Looks exactly like this MIMO one which has been out for a while. Rebadged product dlink, not clever...
