Fujitsu puts the kibosh on possible sale to Western Digital

It seemed nearly imminent that Fujitsu would be selling off its hard disk division to rival Western Digital, but apparently something has gone awry. According to Fujitsu President Kuniaki Nozoe, there is currently "zero chance" of a deal being done, though he did confess that the two had sat down and contemplated changing their statuses to "it's complicated." Unfortunately, that's about all we have to go on for the moment, especially when you consider that WD's take on the whole ordeal is a concise "no comment." Who knows, maybe this is just cold feet or something, or maybe Fujitsu simply realized that it was better off saving itself for the one.

Hey Fujitsu, the HDD market is just going to get worse... Once SSDs get a bit more affordable it's over. So TAKE THE DEAL.

Go talk to people at Yahoo or Take Two if you're still thinking 'but we're worth so much more!' and ask if they wish they had sold.

SSDs aren't even approaching the same price/GB ratio as HDDs yet.
I'll give HDDs a couple more years

Fujitsu abandoned the IDE market 5 years ago after getting roasted with the MPG series drive with firmware quality issues.

They currently make Laptop drives which are nothing special compared to everyone else. The only reason I can see WD wanting them is Fujitsu still makes great SCSI drives, if WD wanted to get back into the Enterprise sector they'd either need to resurrect the horrible WD Enterprise line or just buy someone that makes good drives.
