Pharos rolls out Traveler 137, coming this quarter for $599.95
3.5's the magic number with Pharos' new Windows Mobile-based offering: 3.5-inch display -- wide VGA, no less -- and 3.5G data. The Traveler 137 rolls deep with the best HTC has to offer (owing in no small part to their ODM partnership with Inventec, we figure) with 512MB of Flash, 256MB of RAM, AGPS, 7.2Mbps HSPA on T-Mobile USA (seriously!) and European bands, WiFi, 3-megapixel cam, and the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure. Kinda sounds like a keyboardless X1, doesn't it? Look for it to hit retailers this quarter for a nickel under $600.

Light years ahead of the iPhone.

At User7, yes lightyears ahead includes WM portion of the phone. Use your head, the iPhone has less capabilities than a contract/free Nokia dumbphone. WM on the otherhand is the only mobile platform that can pretty much do anything and everything (Think Skype, P2P downloads, A2DP, tethering, video calls, WiMax, support for just about any video codec, etc). It may not be pretty, it may not even be that intuitive, but you have to admit it is feature packed. Besides multi-touch, name one actual thing an iPhone can do that a Windows Mobile phone can not...
(And please don't be stupid and comeback with some assinine comment about stability, when an out of the box WM6.1 unit is incredibly stable)
ScrapMaker @ Jan 7th 2009 1:21PM
I have to agree that WM is superior to the iPhone in many ways. All WM needs is a bigger CPU and a bigger battery, and WM7 and we've got a winner.
NGM_KID @ Jan 6th 2009 5:58PM
Not really............
BluVoodo @ Jan 6th 2009 6:07PM
They can copy iPhone/iPod Touch look as much as they want but it is still a stinky WinMo phone. :)

ScrapMaker @ Jan 7th 2009 1:17PM

slamEVIL @ Jan 18th 2009 11:04PM
this price is unsubsidized meaning, no contract. wasn't the 8gb iphone $600...with contract?
SchmuckyTheCat @ Jan 6th 2009 6:29PM
WinMo + T-mo 3g.
Isn't that a first? They should be driving that point in ten foot tall billboards.
Dave @ Jan 6th 2009 6:55PM
pity it doesn't run android instead...
Levi @ Jan 6th 2009 9:25PM
I think it should be mandatory that every WinMo phone should have an Android option. That would make the mobile industry sort of interesting until Tegra rolls out.
golfreak @ Jan 6th 2009 7:01PM
Actually $600 is cheap cause it supposeably be unlocked.
Its has everything except for a slide out keyboard.
800x480 resolution, wifi, gps, unlocked, what more can you ask for ?
Mark @ Jan 6th 2009 7:21PM
Wouldn't it make more sense to compare this to the HTC Touch HD?
dcoaster @ Jan 6th 2009 7:38PM
Uh, is it just me or is the GPS application about 10 years too old?
rudy @ Jan 6th 2009 8:18PM
Wow i'm actually more shocked it supports tmo 3g.
Now we just need some dumb phones that support tmo 3g and i'll be very excited.
Jimmy Jones @ Jan 6th 2009 10:17PM
Nice specs.....however, it is a bit bank breaking...... I wonder how much this would cost with a 2yr contract? $299.99?
Btw, that GPS screen looked a bit choppy..or do I have dead pixels on my LCD?
ScrapMaker @ Jan 7th 2009 1:23PM
I think I would rather buy this without-contract, so that I can save more money by not being forced into AT&T's data plan.
TomServo @ Jan 6th 2009 11:41PM
Dear iPhone people,
Please STFU about the iPhone or I'm gonna slap your face off. Thanks.
zbot @ Jan 7th 2009 5:42PM
Drool!
Finally, my hacked first gen iphone days on T-Mo may be coming to an end.
