LG's GD910 wrist phone in action

LG's wrist set was on hand at the LG press conference and we managed a quick peek. We'll fill in all the blanks tomorrow once we can see it up close, but as a teaser, this thing looks sweet. It does, however, look a wee bit more refined in the interface and design departments compared to the peek we got last year. Short video of it taking a call after the break.

I dunno about this. These things always look good on paper, but they also seem to suck in the real world. Let's hope....
It works ive seen it in action. Power Rangers used it to communicate with Zordon since 1995.
I wonder if it's water-proof...
Said water-resistant in the specs. So in short no! :-)
What?! I can't hear you. My wrist is going through a tunnel.
Grindboy: in short, yes. Same thing, different terminology - http://www.chronocentric.com/watches/wresist.shtml
It depends on what depth it is water resistant to. Most watches say water resistant to *meters so that means they are waterproof to that depth before the pressure makes it leak.
In short no, different terminology for different things,,,,
Cant wait for the penis phone...oh wait, apple has that already.
LG is not selliing these until late this year and they will still be unavailable in the states.
I already have one that I am currently using. I got mine from 3gwatches.com
It's actually a very practical device! It's suitable to wear to the gym or to the office.
It's COMPLETELY handsfree!! Which is the best part!
I paid $185 for mine, which is apparently really cheap, considering they can go for $1,400... Mine came with a bluetooth headset & also with stereo earphones as well. It has a built-in mp3 player, video, vibration, stylus pen, touch screen, caller id, and it takes suprisingly great pictures with the camera, o yea, and YES it DOES also tell time. lol.
Auśome actually osome
Why has been combining a watch with a phone the holy grail of technology since the advent of Dick Tracy? It seems like more of a proof of concept relating to size rather than a functional piece of technology.
What a horrible sentence on my part.
I understood it, and appreciated it.
Than you Yoda constructs better sentences.
it's true that it's utility depends on a fairly small size.. but somehow i think having a phone on your wrist will prove to be more convenient than in your pocket, provided that everything works properly.
when the price comes down, i'm going to get one and replace the watchband with an elastic band. that way when receiving calls, it's no hassle to hold it in a convenient position.
Does it work like a speaker phone because that guy didn't have to hold it up to his face (which would look stupid). This thing lacks privacy but also could be annoying on the bus for other passengers.
Bluetooth
I always imagined this type of device with a bluetooth earpiece required (before I knew such a thing would exist).
probably still wouldn't be a bad concept if you don't want mandatory speakerphone.
Before the video I actually thought it was a bluetooth centred Device. But it looks like a speaker phone to me.
Even if it IS bluetooth enabled, what real advantages does it have over a regular bluetooth phone? Who would actually use one of these besides members of the high school a/v club?
Who would use it? Me. Dear God in heaven I would use it.
Advantages include a handy display on your wrist and you not being able to misplace it or have it getting stolen even if you are well liqueured up, also it'll allow the government to track you with a much higher certainty since it's attached to your person.
or maybe with bluetooth headset...
who knows...
I don't know, it looks just as big as those Chinese watch-phones. Perhaps the GUI is prettier.
Dick Tracy would be Proud.
Very very cool, but as always, battery life will be the decider here. Who wants a wristphone with a 2 hour battery life and a 10 minute call-time?
@ccmilesd - You're right, this needs to have a bluetooth headset capability.
I'll wait for my shoe-phone, thanks :D
I'm waiting for a hat-phone, personally. ;)
@Nick, I'm sure Nike and Apple are working on that one for you.
LG - helping people not get laid since 2009.
(yes I want one anyhow) :p
I've never been more excited to get wrist cancer!
Better than brain cancer.
When I see something like this, this comes to my mind:
K.I.T.T., where are you? [Original version, 1982(!)]
Wonder if the bathing rays of microwave energy will help carpal tunnel syndrome or just increase lose of hemoglobin from blood cells?

Dude, relax, you are reading too much gizmodo!
The border around the display is obnoxiously big. Why not use the full face for a display and cover it with a hardened mineral crystal so it won't get scratched? Also, the size of the LG branding on the bottom is unacceptable. No thanks.
I think it is future in such devices. But i would MUCH MORE like something simillar but completely different - bluetooth watches, which you can pair with phone, and you can use them for connection to mobile phone functions - call from contact list, read messages ..., use them as speakerphone and input for voice manipulation "call John" - but they would be only the BT modem, so they would have much less power output (10 mW max BT standard comparing to 2 W max for mobiles), much lower consumption so much longer duration, simillar to e.g. BT mouse, and maybe also a bit smaller form factor and price. It should also have somehow "integrated" BT earplug, so when you do not want to have it always in your ear, you will plug it to the watches and when someone calling, you will just put it to your ear.
Yes, you must have your mobile phone somewhere 10 meter far, but that mean you can have it in your pocket, bag, on the table etc. and you do not have to think about it.
What if I don't have any arms? Will there be an ankle version too?
Looks pretty good. Don't care too much for 3G, more about GPS. Would make for one less thing I need to carry in my pocket/on my belt. Pair this with a good set of BT headphones, a microSD slot, and a relatively high res screen, and you have a device capable of (reading) email, listening to music, and handling your calls as well as giving you the time.
Oh and don't forget that slick charging feature where it charges through the motions of your hand.
its not a phone, it works with the lg prada 2 via blue tooth. look it up on youtube.
Looks like alot of fun. If it actually functions well as a phone, that would be the ultimate. I'd replace my iPhone with that thing + an iPod touch FTW!
Flavor Flav wants his clock back.
Soon thy shall see built-in heart-pulse measurement, body temp measurement, sweat analysis, screamer all roll in one. 2009 year of green-environ and health-care gadgets....
Still waiting for the implant phone.
More new footage about the LG-GD910 is also available on LG Canada's YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR50ZcHrmC0.
The truth is that the Watch Phone or Mobile Wrist Cell already a reality TEDACOS in Spain since 2007, has the most complete range of models to the specific needs of the final user. All have the latest technology bluetooth, touch screen, mp3 music, mp4, microSD memory, vibration, digital camera and video film, radio, ebook text reader, internet conection from wap, and many more features.
they could make it a battery less watch if they made it like an old pocket watch my great gramps handed down still works. it's charges through kinetic movement and your arms are always movin so it stays charged. people need to get there shit together and forget about form over function. in other words it better work without any problems or they will go under.
I personally wouldn't want to have everyone hearing my phone conversations. There's only a speaker phone is there?
It has BlueTooth capabilities.
Anybody know there how or where to fix/out the sim card? Or is it a cdma applicable only?
Geeez, you guys done dreaming and fooling around?
Any serious comments on the phone?
Spending money is serious business!
I don't want to throw it away 6 months down the road!
