Samsung's
P3 has
been official in other parts of the globe for awhile now, but the outfit has decided to wait until CES to make it so here in the States. As anticipated, the PMP arrives with its "evolutionary" EmoTure user interface, 4/8/16/32GB of internal storage, haptic feedback, a 3-inch WQVGA display, DNSe 3.0 sound enhancement technology and a Music Hot Touch Key that enables users to instantly access favorite music features / selections without having to wade through multiple menus. The device itself is just 0.39-inches thick, and it also boasts a voice recorder, FM radio and Bluetooth support. Check it sometime during the first half of this year in matte black / matte silver motifs.

Yeah I thought the same thing, kind of bad name to use in western markets.
Gotta say the interface has definitely gotten sexier.
But seriously, I know "EmoTure" is supposed to imply it connects on an emotional level but I keep just seeing the "Emo" part and wondering why the interface is any colour other than black and if it has optional pop-out razors.
Haptic feedback should be nice, something I wish was in the iPod Touch.
It's sort of like Asus' motto: "Rock solid. Heart touching"

Yeah. look at the price of the ipod. Look at the reliabilty of iPods. The all apple is garbage. I especially love how the Archos 5s WiFi is faster than the iphone 3gs and starts at 60GB for $350. You fanboys need to stop.

It would have been nice to see an AMOLED display, it seems like a lot of media players are going to make that transition this year.

here we go again,another pmp trying to dethrone the ruler.,wow fm radio n bt.,its gonna take alot more than that,to kill ipod or touch.,so 229$ for 8 gb.,yeah samsung might cost $45 less but is it worth not having the best wifi browser on the planet.,1000 apps n counting speaker accelerometer to play over 100 games,google maps, email client,not to mention what the heck u gonna dock samsung on,exactly open your eyes.etc.so for $40 difference who would pic samsung mp3 over apple touch.,?i wanna see how many illogical thinking people we have.
can we get that "audio preview" feature youtube has so people like this understand how fucking dumb they sound
Here we go again another Shugg post trying to derail an article with the same arguments about docks and the accelerometer...who gives a toss? So what are the BT capabilities on the touch? I'd love to see them outmatch the P3.
I'll tell you who would buy this..
Anyone who doesn't want to carry around the LARGE brick shaped Ipod touch. Also people that couldn't care less about playing games and getting their emails but instead just care about a great sounding player for their music and video files and don't want to be locked into apple's stupid Itunes software and also people that want to use the bluetooth feature that Apple refuses to support. So, basically, the people that would buy this are the people that don't just rush to buy the next shiny new thing from apple but instead want a better sounding player with different features.
People like that, that is who would buy this.
@shugg...best wifi browser on the planet? Heard of laptops? PCs? Even UMPCs? the iPod touch has one of the worst browsers...
And why get an iPod Touch? Yea, its $200 cheaper, but with a low end laptop, you can have endless applications, endless games, endless email, you don't even have to dock it! No syncing with music either! Just rip CDs or get songs online! Dang, what illogical thinking some people have...
And yes some people (like me) do like listening to the radio.

You make some stupids points on the Accelerometer, Browser, Maps, and pretty much everything else. The iPod touch doesn't have a speaker and its browser wangs chung. Its audio quality is HORRIBLE (especially at a high volume when the quality starts to distort) and who gives a crap about the accelerometer? Plus out of the "1000 apps" probably only 26 are download worthy.
For something that it was made for, iPod's sound quality sucks.
If you want to talk functionality and price range, you are better off spending a couple of hundred dollars more and buying an Archos which has Opera (PWNS safari), Built-in wifi, 3.5G, manage e-mail & contacts, GPS, ability to stream video from your computer to the player, rip dvds, view T.V. over the internet, record shows (in HD too), has Flash 9 support (watch Youtube, Hulu, etc), widgets (which rivals many apps from the Apple store), supports web tv & radio, supports AVI, WMV, MP4, Flash, FLAC, OGG, and much more.
Hmmm, Eeiy sounds like iEye, but Eeiy also sounds a bit like Ee-aw..... you donkey!

At home I use plug my laptop into speakers if I want loud music : /
Or if not I plug my S:flo into speakers via the headphone jack :S
So whats the deal? if its only for charging then I can plug in the USB charging cable too .

Great worries to have.
Make sure to read up on the S9 interface, and have an idea if you can cope with it's complexity before you go for one. The iAudio7's interface was pretty awful, trying to do way too much with two few buttosn, and it ruined a good player. By the sound of it, the S9 is in the same boat.
Interface looks good a bit iphone-esque though
With a good price point and good features it can have an edge for the iPoo haters

Anyone know if they have enabled you to use FM Radio and stereo Bluetooth at the same time? The P2 could not.
one wonders why they switched from AMOLED(P2) to TFT(p3) screen. OLED is so much clearer!
My P2 doesn't have an AMOLED Screen. None of them do. I believe that you're think of the fact that Samsung manufactures those screens for other MP3 Players.

doesn't work as UMS device (no Linux support, or anything outside of iTunes, officially)
lack of codec support

Screw your iPod, and give me a Cowon, Samsung, or Meizu device any day. Hopefully Trekstore, iRiver, and Archos will join back in that list soon.

so what exactly is different about this compared to the P2? other than widgets and increased memory options?
If it can be jailbroken like the iPod, there will be huge potential, but the lack of WiFi is the dealbreaker.
I use my P2 to hear music. I turn it on, put in the headphones, and stick it in my pocket. It sound great even when I'm at near max volume to drown out the sound of the subway. The thing is small, light, and connects to my phone over BT so that I don't miss a call or have to take the headphones out and phone out of my pocket. I may sometimes show a video on it.

I have an iPod Touch and I love it. That doesn't mean I'll be like the others. I don't think the quality of the iPod sucks. It did suck a lot with the earphones it came with but I bought better headphones and it sounds amazing! The thing I hate though is that it doesn't have radio. :/
This Samsung mp3 player looks so cool. I wish it had wi-fi for online radio.
You could use the fm radio rather than internet radio. Also it has a built in flash player so I'm assuming that samsung wants to start a community where people make their own flash programs to put on p3. I don't understand the point of a subway map though, I think a basic street map would be really nice. I can't wait to get one of these once the pricing is released.
