Many thought that Profile 1.1 players should've died last year, but that just wasn't the case. But those internet content lovin' fools can finally get behind Sharp's Blu-ray players. At this point Sharp realizes that with all the Blu-ray players available, you gotta do something special to get noticed, so Sharp is striving to make its players work better with its line of TVs by automatically putting configuring the display the optimal viewing setting -- like dot by dot. The only thing that distinguishes these two players from each other is that the BD-HP22U will be out in May, includes 2GB of USB memory, and retails at $299, while the BD-HP16U is due in March for $229.

The BD-HP21U I got for my dad for $180 has been nothing but reliable. Great player except for the lack of 2.0. I got it over the Sony S350 and a few of the other players on sale around Black Friday because it can decode DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD, which his audio receiver can't. Stupid Bose receiver. :)
These should be pretty good as well.

I almost purchased the hp21u from sears during black Friday sales season, but I do know that the offer a downloadable update that you cab burn to a cd or copy over to a flash drive....just a heads up!

I was wondering when Sharp would offer a BD Live player. I should have known when the prices of the 1.0, and 1.1 dropped like a rock.

Like, wtf does that even mean?
Crappy writing...

Crappy writing indeed... just like all of Ben Drawbaugh's posts (click on his name for more, especially this masterpiece: http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/06/the-next-generation-of-hdmi-actually-adds-some-welcomed-features/)
Seriously, he brings the quality of the whole of Engadget down. He needs to either learn how to write, or leave.

Dot by dot basically means the image is not stretched or scaled in anyway.
A better write up is here: http://www.hdtvlounge.net/blu-ray/sharp-bd-hp16u-bd-hp22u/

What does 2GB of USB memory mean?
Ben @ Jan 8th 2009 12:30AM
No clue really, which is why I used the same phrase word for word in the release. I believe it just means it has 2GB of storage for use with BD Live.
