SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone demoed on video, coming in Q1
No surprises here, but Sling Media has created a new SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone portal on its website in order to accomplish two important tasks. 1) To announce that it will indeed be submitted to Apple for certification this quarter and 2) to show off a new video of the software in action. If you just can't wait, head to the read link and mash play.

Seems like it works the same way it did on my my ipaq rx3115, my motorola Q, my HTC Mogul, and my HTC touch... I'm seeing a pattern here...
Brad @ Jan 7th 2009 6:04PM
Aah, but the iPhone breaks that pattern. See, all those other devices WORK, because some supreme overlord didn't decide that they competed with some integral or potential future business from the device maker. Apple may still very well reject this program. Remember, it streams movies / tv from your home. That could be a future iTunes feature.
Dustin @ Jan 7th 2009 8:05PM
Sounds like a good move by Sling to say the least... Attempt to pressure Apple into accepting the app by getting the public psyched about it ahead of time, it could force Apple to accept in an attempt to avoid "looking like the bad guy"
Frankenstein Black @ Jan 7th 2009 10:35PM
Nice work Sling! To bad Job-O the Hutt and the Apple Overlords WILL shoot it down because it will "compete with future Apple offerings". Hey, there is always Android, right? If I was you I would get to work on that (an Android App) ASAP then dangle it over the Apple like the proverbial Sword of Damocles. Otherwise you will spending dev time and getting nowhere fast.
jbuers @ Jan 7th 2009 1:48PM
NASCAR... really?
kjb434 @ Jan 7th 2009 1:59PM
What's wrong with NASCAR?
I hope you aren't going to make some stupid redneck/hillbilly reference either.
Frankfurter @ Jan 7th 2009 2:02PM
kjb has obviously not seen NASCAR viewer demographics.
CraigJ @ Jan 7th 2009 3:50PM
I've been to one NASCAR race. Just one. Aside from the chicks lifting up their shirts (which sounds a lot cooler than it actually was) I was bored. I find F1 & Rally car much more interesting and entertaining. Probably has something to do with turning right as well as left...
Dorf @ Jan 7th 2009 1:49PM
The more people we can get watching TV while driving down the highway the better.
jdbeitz @ Jan 7th 2009 1:53PM
That picture is from a jailbroken iPhone. I can tell because of the AT&T logo. usually on the iPhone, there is no logo... just text saying AT&T
Frankfurter @ Jan 7th 2009 2:00PM
Your point?
finite_rings @ Jan 7th 2009 2:05PM
companies never show actual screen shots. there's almost a 100% chance that the screen was rendered.
sodapop @ Jan 7th 2009 3:26PM
Sling already demoed a jailbroken proof of concept ....
jdbeitz @ Jan 7th 2009 2:01PM
They know that jailbreaking how you MUST roll if you have an iPhone... like me
Frankfurter @ Jan 7th 2009 2:05PM
Just what does "ROLL"ing with a jailbroken phone buy you these days (over a non-jailbroken phone)? I know there's the whole 'I stuck it to the man' thing that gets some of you excited, but feature-wise, what else?
Cagrino @ Jan 7th 2009 2:20PM
@Frankfurter
You can start with IntelliScreen, Winterboard, Cycorder, PDAnet, SoccerNet... shall I go on?
Dorv @ Jan 7th 2009 2:49PM
Intellescreen and Winterboard are the only two things on that list that interest me. As I'm not one to like to tinker graphics, I'm really disappointed in the number of quality pre-made themes out there...
darkprime @ Jan 7th 2009 2:10PM
hopefully this will work on the ipod touch too.
Eddie @ Jan 7th 2009 2:54PM
On the website it says: "We've been working hard to bring the SlingPlayer Mobile experience to the iPhone and iPod Touch." So yes, it's coming to the Touch.
Andrew @ Jan 7th 2009 2:18PM
The picture is to demonstrate that the sling app is "fast like a NASCAR"!
Vilppi @ Jan 7th 2009 2:26PM
Or keeps going in circles until a crash.
Derbeste @ Jan 7th 2009 5:46PM
Villpi +1
jupiterthunder @ Jan 7th 2009 8:08PM
There is no such thing as "a NASCAR". They are called stockcars or racecars.
JeffM @ Jan 7th 2009 2:31PM
Sweet- that actually swings the iPhone over to something I would consider buying. Exciting!
FILA @ Jan 7th 2009 3:06PM
I didn't know hillbilly's had or even knew what an iPhone was, let alone a cell phone, let alone a phone, let alone...anything.
sodapop @ Jan 7th 2009 3:28PM
Too bad bigots know how to type
jupiterthunder @ Jan 7th 2009 8:10PM
Which means you probably didn't know that NASCAR's top series is sponsored by Sprint by virtue of it's merger with/acquisition of Nextel.
Now you have new joke material, I guess, but at least it will be accurate.
RyanMac @ Jan 7th 2009 3:23PM
i'm guessing this is just over WIFI, not 3G/Edge?
manny @ Jan 7th 2009 3:47PM
wish they would put out a CDMA blackberry version first
Chris @ Jan 7th 2009 3:51PM
I know the concept sounds great but its just going to kill your battery. Watching a movie or using something like iheart radio does already so this will drain it even faster. Ok, when you're stuck in a traffic jam or in a long check out line or something and you wanna catch 5 minutes of ESPN, CNN or something then its probably not a big deal but if I'm going to watch a movie off HBO I'd expect my battery to be dead after that.
FreshJulius @ Jan 7th 2009 4:40PM
With a DVR and Slingbox at home, trips to the office restroom just got longer with my iPhone...
joe blow @ Jan 7th 2009 4:50PM
I don't think there are that many NASCAR rednecks with iPhones, but I could be wrong.
FuzzyCat @ Jan 7th 2009 5:14PM
The slingmedia site is seriously buggered atm.
