Toshiba announces TDP-F10U pico projector

We just heard about Texas Instruments' new DLP Pico tech being stuffed into an array of new teeny projectors being debuted at CES. One of that bunch is Toshiba's just announced TDP-F10U. This little bundle of joy is similarly sized, shaped, and spec'd to a lot of other mid-sized picos, boasting an SVGA, 800 x 600 resolution with an 800:1 contrast ratio, weighing in around 1.4 pounds. It's expected for sometime in March 2009 and will run you roughly $599 if you want to get one of your own -- and we fully expect that you do!

Looks a little bit fat...

Granted when new technology comes out it's ridiculously expensive (case in point pico projectors), but who would drop $599 for a portable 800 x 600 w/ 800:1 contrast screen? Let me know when the price comes down to < $150.

Why don't they cut the shit, and just not release any more of these until there 720p?
Is anyone even buying these?

well given that PJs like the Optoma HD65 & Infocus X9 are pretty darn small and pack an amazing punch of performance why not just hop onto those for a few bux more? The Pico PJ's that can be built into phones or fit in a shirt pocket make much more sense than this midi-sized bad-boy IMHO of course...
