VTech's new DECT 6.0 telephones are too swank for grandma
VTech's not stopping with just a WiFi radio here at CES -- oh no, it's also introducing a snazzy new DECT line of telephones. Starting with the flagship LS6245, we've got a slim, stylish handset that packs both DECT 6.0 technology and Bluetooth, enabling one person to be on the main handset while a BT-enabled phone taps in as well. The entire lineup features touch sensitive buttons, caller ID, speakerphone, selectable ring tones and a 50-name / number phonebook directory, with the V.Style LS6215 even offering touch tech in the base unit. Each member of the '09 line is priced under $100, and the whole crew should be available for budding seniors in the first half of '09.

Wow. 1985 called, they want their B&O knockoff back.

What no voip. How is a wireless home phone news?
NC @ Jan 7th 2009 2:39PM
Seriously, with DECT basestations supporting multiple VoIP lines these days, I should think that all you would want news about are the DECT phones you intend to link to the basestations.

Hmm.... This one reminds me of one of those Bang & Olfusen DECT phones....

Is this a phone or a remote control... TO RULE THE WORLD!!!
....
That would have been a lot funnier if it weren't for that Jim Carrey movie, I swear.
....
The LS6245 flagship IS pretty sweet, though... Is the call button the button in the middle of the circle? Hmmmm....
I might have read the manual on this one:P

Yeah that one long one would just confuse the heck out of old people. It looks like a remote control. I can see my grandmother now she is sitting on my couch trying to change the channel with the phone and answer the remote control. Those other 2 look nice though.

"DECT 6.0 technology and Bluetooth, enabling one person to be on the main handset while a BT-enabled phone taps in as well."
Huh? On my AT&T BT cordless, the BT feature allows me to connect the cordless handsets with my cell service the same way I did with the old land line.
I dropped my land line service and transfered my home phone number to an old BT cell phone ($9.99/month) that sits beside the base. I still have 4 cordless phones in separate rooms of the house. It's great and I save money.

It looks like a remote. I can see grandma trying to change the channel with this thing.

VTech continues to suck. I work in electronics retail and these do not sell. The ones that do sell come back.
anebg @ Jan 7th 2009 10:08AM
*cough cough* .... Skype?
Michael @ Jan 7th 2009 11:37AM
my name is Michael... and I still use a landline... (HI MICHAEL!)
I keep looking for a phone that you can connect to a PC and upload ringtones to... Vtech was rumored to have a WiFi enabled phone on the way... But I never saw it for sale.
Johari @ Jan 7th 2009 11:45AM
Hmmm... I just bought a set of 3 DECT 6.0 handsets from Panasonic at Target on clearance. They were $30.00, down from $120.

Funny...My 84 year old grandmother is having no problems with hers...the idea that older people can't use technology is BS. At least they generally bother to read the manual!
