Echostar announces Sling Monitor for in-home placeshifting
That funky angled screen is the just announced Sling Monitor (yes Virginia, it is HD), designed to work with the SlingLoaded ViP 922 DVR to take video anywhere in the house via WiFi. With 922, you can perform the usual Sling-type activities streaming video over the net and as many as three devices in the home, including HD over wireless. The model right now is 14.9-inch, but according to President Charlie Ergen nothing definite has been decided yet before the expected launch this summer.

That is AWESOME!!!!!! I have pined over the lack of ability to set up something in the garage to watch while I'm working on this project or the other and this is what I dreamed up years ago. Unfortunately back then the technology wasn't available yet. I've been on the fence as to whether a Slingbox was something I needed since I don't travel much but this application sells it for me. Now the real question.....How much?
FrankLo @ Jan 8th 2009 2:00PM
Chad,
Like you I thought about purchasing the slingbox but I really dont travel that much probably 3-4 times a year.
Plus having another gadget under my plasma would just simply ruin my minimalistic style. Now If I can just have this box under the tv and let it serve everything related to T.V aorund my house then I AM SOLD!
How much? Ready to kick comcast & Tivo to the curb.

I think I would rather have a portable/tablet computer and the Slingbox client software than to purchase a dedicated Slingbox reciever like this. That way, I could also pop over to the web or launch a game or something when there's nothing good on TV.

Is this Dish's answer to whole house DVR? If so it sucks. There is no reason the current ViP series equipment can't be used for whole house DVR via ethernet. Well, except that Dish did not program the software to do so.

Why the hell is this exclusive to the 922? I could use one of these in our bedroom for watching the TiVo. Lame.

Does "exclusive to the 922" mean you can't connect to a SlingBox with it?
