Video: iRobot Looj hands on shows improved leaf carnage
It was at last year's CES that we first got our hands on iRobot's Looj, and while easy gutter cleaning is something most homeowners can appreciate, the thing did have some issues that left many users tossing the things out with the decomposing crud it was supposed to fling. Enter the Looj second generation, which includes a flexible auger that should keep the thing from flipping itself over, a tool-free battery door, and a faster reverse speed to get the thing back to your ladder in half the time. Nothing revolutionary, but some much-needed updates that will be available this spring for $129, and we were impressed with the sheer spite the thing displayed against a mock gutter full of faux leaves. CES is nice

this is why i come to Engadget.
By far the greatest thing at CES. Period.
.
was there a iRiver takeover of iRobot that i missed?

I'm pretty sure it's a type-o
Oops, not working on a lot of sleep here!
Then you spend an hour raking and bagging leaves that are scattered around the yard of the house.
When was the last time you saw dry leaves in a gutter? What happens when its full of wet leaves?
I'm with tcc. Even if it has been two weeks since it rained, the leaves in my gutters are always wet. This doesn't look like it's going to do as well pushing out wet leaves.
i bought the original last year. It works surprising well on wet or dry leaves. It beats cleaning the gutters by hand, especially on long runs where you constantly need to move a ladder.
I'd rather spend the extra money to get leafguard (http://www.leafguard.com/) installed... plus you get a guaranteed life time warranty.
Nice work iRobot. but I'm really hoping this isn't all you're announcing at CES 2009
Destined to be misused as a sex toy. Use the remote for those hard-to-reach places.
Will it climb the ladder to get up to the gutter for me? I'm not a fan of heights.
It will not only climb the ladder, but it weaves the wicker ladder it uses to climb. After the cleaning is complete it also bakes apple and cherry pie, the cherry isn't very good however.
despite all that things that thing do, Mr.Jake, one question remains,..
does it blend?
it is intresting, something that we should consider... but I still not really don't understand how it works?
You "not really don't understand"? That's a good thing. :)
well, would like to see a demo of it without the back-splash. Watch again, and see how many is bouncing off the back-splash. Which means they will all end up on the roof and find their way back into gutter.
My thought exactly
Get back to me when it climbs my house by itself.
give it about 2 years and Woot.com will have a ton of these to offload i bet ya
It's a fairy in my gutter.
Needs a lot of work, I hope.
This further makes me realize I will have a virtual army of iRobot products to do all the cleaning......
Kind of like something from that Ray Bradbury short story about the last house in the world..... Im getting kind of creeped out now....
They make 15ft hose/pressure washer attachments that do a far better job than this. And you can simply walk around the house holding it over the gutters and never have to climb a ladder or mess with batteries that die after 2 years like all the Rhomba's did. It is new and shiny so I can see the appeal for those that don't know any better, but its still retarded.
