Vizio presents 240Hz, LED backlit updates to the XVT series
Just nabbed a 55-inch 1080p Vizio XVT for Chrismakwanzika and feeling good about yourself? Consider a return, because the specs on the new models are here and the list is long. Music, 1080p movies (MPEG-2, h.264 & WMV9) or pics from a USB drive? The whole line has that with Vizio's Multi-media hookup, while LED backlighting, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 5 HDMI ports are kept exclusive to the $1,999 55-inch VF551XVT1A. 42- and 47-inch models share the 240Hz motion technology that's become so popular with their larger relative, but only rock 50,000:1 contrast and 4 HDMI jacks for $1,099 and $1,399 respectively. 32- and 37-inch aficionados can expect 120Hz refresh rates for $749 and $999 respectively when they ship in the fall, while the rest of the pack are summer babies. Of course, by then you'd probably want to wait for a Connected HDTV....we love this time of year.

He sure is gung-ho for last-football-player-on-earth post-apocalypse metropolis, huh?
His shades protect him from deadly post nuclear electromagnetic waves
I think its just the future of Urban Football.
you guys are crazy
those shades are actually HD goggles that allow him to view every enemy player's position and calculate the best route for him to follow and score a touch down, the current score, the next available plays, and also contains a live video stream to his most hated rival's team game 3 timezones away, not to mention stock market information
*giggle* ... i want one....
Definitely wins the most ridiculous stock sales image award...it's really the only reason i even stopped to read the article. Good job Vizio!
That is actually a screen capture from the Darth Vader Bowl. The Jedis lost 23-10.
It's LT before he was injured so it's from 2 years ago.
Assuming they know who LT is...
awesome prices. May even consider upgrading now.
Vizio??? Upgrade???
Hey! I was thinking of upgrading my computers processor from a Core2Duo to a Pentium 2!
ill stick with my samsung 9 series, thanks.
Which you should because this doesn't come out until June. However, it probably will be as good as the A950 which will be replaced by the new Samsung X000 series of displays hitting at the same time. Just how the whole electronics thing works.
what is the repair history of Vizio TVs?
aren't they one of those companies you always see their TVs refurbished for cheap because no one can get parts for them after they break?
are they becoming a name-brand?
anyone?
I got a 50in plasma and have no issues with it.
They have a good 2yr warranty policy and even do in home repair. Very good customer service.
My Vizio has been very reliable in the past 2 years I've owned mine.
Vizio changes the internals of their tv's so much it's hard to find parts for tv's even a year old. And my 37" has a loud buzz to it now, thanks to the fluorescent backlights, come quick LED.
yeezz thanks, available summer or fall 2009.
55in with LED for under 2K? That's impressive. I've had the first Vizio 47in 1080P set and the only reason i returned it was very poor black levels and SD video processing. If they fixed those issues, i think i will consider this new 55in model.
Why can't computer LCDs have that 240hz ;_;
wow! 55-inch LED under 2k with all those featurs
does anyone want to buy my 42-inch, I will give you a good deal.
I best sart saving my pennies
If broadcasts are in either 720p or 1080i due to bandwidth issues, would these >60hz tvs make a difference? I don't see how they would, unless you have them hooked up to a PC, correct me if I'm wrong.
any video that plays in 24fps will benefit from 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates. 3:2 pulldown is bad... but then again, not having it makes action movies look like documentaries show on a handycam at first.
120hz is there to reduce motion blur associated with the slow pixel response time inherent in LCD's. It has nothing to do with 3:2 pulldown or 24fps source material. If a manufacturer chooses to, they can couple 120hz with an additional technology (i.e. 5:5 pulldown for 24fps, or 4:4 pulldown for 30fps). Names of these technologies to look for include motion flow, TrueD, Film stabilization, etc.
Actually, 120hz has little to do with slow pixel response time. The pixel response time is the same no matter what kind of video processing hardware is hooked up to it. High refresh rate TVs typically don't have any faster of pixel response time.
The primary benefit of 120 or 240hz displays are that they can trigger pixel changes at a more precise moment in time. This provides the ability to display video at native frame rate.
why cant any get the information on what type of leds these tv's are using. ill still going to with which ever tv replaces sony xbr8 as lond as it is tri led and 240hz or maybe sony will be slick and make it 480hz. For everyone who does not want to spend a lot of money this seems like a good deal.
Mr. Ford, hz rating and pixel response time are independent from each other. hz timing refers to how often the tv will send 'change' signals to the pixel array.
60hz = every ~16 ms,
120hz = every ~8 ms,
240 = every ~4ms
Pixel response time refers to the amount of time it takes for that pixel to change from its previous value to its new value, most new lcds average around 4ms to accomplish this value transition, independent of the refresh rating. Consequently 240hz is the highest they can go since at below 4ms, they'd be sending new values before the old value had a chance to complete the transition.
While i agree with your assessment that 120hz is usually coupled with another bit of software to make video smoother like 5:5 pulldown, it has nothing to do with motion blur or affecting the pixel response time.
What do you guys think of the 55" LCD vs a 61" or 65" DLP? I was waiting for Vizio's 55" to come out before I made a decision. If this isn't coming out until summer though, my decision is partly made already.
Vizio sucks go to the store and feel the backs of them they run ALOT hotter then the name brands. Read up on how much they suck
What's up with that partial picture frame beneath the bezel!!???
My (now old) 47" XVT Vizio looks great. A tremendous bargain last September, is only $1000 at Costco now. I can't wait to see these new ones... actually maybe I shouldn't.
Good design
