Apple didn't invent - they did a great job of packaging, and looking over the horizon... but really if you want to go back a bit, cavemen invented icons af all genres - piss off all this intellectual property crap, and give some credit to those people that try to make things 'better'.
BTW stone-age icons generall had rounded corners as well
