Polaroid's PoGo Instant Digital Camera isn't for the hardcore geeks -- it's stuck with a 5 megapixel sensor, no optical zoom whatsoever and an LCD monitor that was fanciful in 1998. What it can do, however, is churn out photo stickers in around 60 seconds after a photo is taken without the need for an external printer. Have a look at the March-bound unit below, and look, your kids will love it. Promise.
i can't read... FTA: What it can do, however, is churn out photo stickers in around 60 seconds after a photo is taken without the need for an external printer.
This camera will be great for taking passport photos.
Other than that... I really doubt that next kids generation will use printed photographs at all. They will most probably just exchange photos using their instant wireless cards (like Eye-Fi) and watch them on their PMP/phone/video-glasses high-res screen. And when they come home they will upload and watch them on their 70" super-slim 3D TVs.
And I forgot to mention... the photos will be 3D too.
They still use pictures like these for passports? My last 2 passports I got had the pictures printed right into the paper.. And my newest one is actually something like a credit card, just a tad thicker, and attached inside the passport..
Polaroids never had the greatest quality it was just cool that you can have you picture there....... I doubt this whole thing will last as long as polaroids did.....
The reason polaroids were so cool back in the day is that you could see the image right after you took it...which you can do on all digital cameras, making this kind of pointless...I think they're attempting to resurrect the old polaroid here, but theres no reason to do so.
If you happen to be touring through the jungles of Africa on a lovely weekend afternoon and would like to give a photo to a tribe that doesn't have digital cameras or electricity, what you gonna do, huh? Give them a damn printout from the Polaroid, that's what! Sheesh, do I have to do ALL the thinking around here?!
so basically, they've killed their instant film line to come out with products that do the exact same thing, with the same quality, but have none of the charm, and no fan-base of people that have been using the cameras for 50 year?
I'd rather just stick with the POGO that is already on the market!
I've heard people say that it would be cool if it had a camera attached but this is horrific! Did the product development start 5 years ago or something?
Polaroid cameras, by definition, should weigh like a brick and be terrible in terms of quality. They're doing nothing good for (what's left of) their business by promoting products to the mainstream when there really isn't any real reason why anyone would need to get one.
Look at Holga, they make crappy plastic cameras but there is a sizable niche for that because some people find that all the flaws actually make for a fairly pleasing image. Polaroid film was just like that - bad resolution, terrible colour rendition on colour film, annoying blotches if you didn't peel the print off at the right speed (660 series packfilm) and so on. The photos still looked cool though.
hey, i don't know what all of you are complaining about; i've been waiting for this camera to come out in stores for ages. i think you forgot; the kids of today love stickers. the kids of yesterday loved them, too. just as well, the kids of tomorrow will love them. i mean, look, they now have an easier way to put pictures on the insides of their lockers.
i think you all are completely underestimating the greatness that is this camera.

That camera is MASSIVE.
Indeed, you could probably kill a kitten or two by dropping it on them.
That photo printer with built-in camera is incredibly small.
So, how long does it take to print out?

By the time the next kid generation is around there wont be a thing as a standalone camera

smart thinking,
If it has no zoom, what does the T W rocker button do?
They probably meant no optical zoom.
digital zoom?

Yep, three years too late for this thing: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0007/00072502c211zoom.asp
...the modern-day equivalent of the Polaroid Captiva...
Print out 4x6 and every realestate agent in the country will buy one.
Throw in geo tagging to 'hmmm's 4x6 and you can count every insurance agent as well
"a LCD"?? Good Inglish.
Yes Endeed..

Did that salesman take a photo of his crotch?
